SpeedTip CCS 5.0, 7.0 Cannulated Compression Screws

A new generation of self-drilling and self-tappingcannulated screws

SpeedTip CCS * 5.0, 7.0 cannulated compression screws feature innovative technologies including the high quality of

the screw threads. The patented SpeedTip polygonal geometry in the screw tip and head, the tapered shaft, in combination

with the precision manufacturing of the thread, reduce the torque required to insert the screws. This makes it easier

for the surgeon and reduces the number of surgical steps. The optimized cutting tip enables the screw to cut and purchase

extremely well in the bone, thus reducing the potential risk of bone fragment displacement.

Screw features and clinical benefits

• Substantially less effort required to insert screws due to:

- optimized cutting geometry

- SpeedTip in the screw tip

- precise, sharp thread

- tapered shaft

- SpeedTip in the screw head

• Self-drilling screw design

- Fewer surgical steps

- Easy to use

• Large thread surfaces

- Compression also in bone with lower bone density

- Improved purchase in cortical and cancellous bone

• Partially threaded screws

- For the use as compression screw

- Choice of short and long distal threads for interfragmentary application in a wide variety of indications

• Fully threaded screws

- For the use as set screw (without compression effect)

- Provides additional purchase in the bone

• Innovative technology and outstanding thread properties• Cannulated and self-drilling screw design• Excellent cutting behavior and low insertion torque reduce the

risk of bone fragment displacement

Double ArthrodesisApplication illustrated on a clinical case by C. Plaass, Germany

Diagnosis

A female patient with painful pes planovalgus associated with stage 2b tibial posterior tendon insufficiency.

Treatment

Double arthrodesis (talo-navicular and talo-calcaneal) and fixation with two talo-calcaneal CCS 7.0 screws and two talo-navicular CCS 5.0 screws.

Results

Reliable fusion, painfree weight-bearing foot in good position.

Lateralizing Calcaneal Sliding OsteotomyApplication illustrated on a clinical case by V. Valderrabano, Switzerland

Diagnosis

Painful anteromedial upper ankle joint degeneration and residual pes cavovarus on the left foot following triplanar calcaneal osteotomy (staple fixation) and metatarsal I osteotomy.

Treatment

Removal of osteosynthesis material from the calcaneus, valgizing lateral calcaneal sliding osteotomy, ventral cheilectomy of the upper ankle joint, deltoid ligament release on the left foot.

Results

Four months postoperatively the patient was painfree, able to fully bear weight and able to work again.

Lapidus ArthrodesisApplication illustrated on a clinical case by C. Plaass, Germany

Diagnosis

A female patient with hallux valgus and hindfoot valgus associated with TMT-1 instability

Treatment

Arthrodesis of the TMT-1 joint with CCS 5.0 as lag screw and plantar Medartis APTUS TMT-1 fusion plate to correct malalignment and instability. Correction of the hindfoot valgus by means of a medializing calcaneal osteotomy using CCS 7.0.

Results

Pain-free foot that can bear weight, restoration of the anatomical shape of the foot.

Page 12: SpeedTip CCS 5.0, 7 · Use of CCS 5.0 and CCS 7.0 Preoperative X-rays Patient: female, 54 years old Distinctive flexible pes planovalgus malposition with tibial posterior tendon insufficiency

Optimized plate shape allows for soft

tissue protective approach and reduces

intraoperative plate bending*

*Plaass et al: «Placement of Plantar Plates for Lapidus Arthrodesis Anatomical Considerations».Seven plantar plate designs were analyzed on 29 anatomic specimens with regard to plate position towards the tibialis anterior tendon, general platedesign as well as the necessity of further bending. The APTUS TMT-1 plantar fusion plate achieved the best result.

Choice of short or long distal thread

Clinical benefits of SpeedTip CCS 5.0, 7.0

• No prominent osteosynthesis materials such as plates or screw heads over the sensitive dorsum of the foot

Clinical advantages of the TMT-1 Plantar Fusion Plate

• Early partial weight-bearing possible and minimization of soft tissue trauma*

• Plate positioning minimizes overlapping with the insertion of the tibialis anterior tendon*

• Anatomical plate shape makes bending almost unnecessary*
