region at the northern most tip of the Big Island is far from the tourist buzz and istreasured as an eco-tourist paradise with the longest stretch of natural, undevelopedcoastline in all of the Hawaiian Islands, spectacular valleys and cliffs, endless hikingtrails, and sacred sites rich in the mana and history of the Hawaiian people. TheSanctuary also operates as a permaculture organic farm and educational center.

The Kohala Sanctuary design offers rare and inspiring opportunity to live close tonature, to witness the principles of harmony and dynamic balance to be discovered incomplex natural systems. The Sanctuary experience will allow you to live at the speed

OUR THEME:VISION 2020:

SOURCING AND AWAKENING INTENTIONOT 24 will explore ways that our life-work can embrace the opportunities and

challenges of these times with greater balance, well-being, clear purpose and potency. It is about discovering and giving voice to our future-story, from the perspective ofenvisioning an ideal 2020, and then working back, through the marker events andtipping points, to the present.

As the complexities of globalization, urbanization, environmental challenges, wealth disparities, growing world-wide fundamentalism, and ever more technologicalbreakthroughs increase exponentially, how shall we respond? For those of usapproaching our senior years, just beginning or midway through career and familyresponsibilities, how shall we apply ourselves to our life-work? How shall we nurtureand encourage each other as we take the actions we feel compelled to take? These aresome of the questions we will begin with. The natural setting of this magical retreatcenter is likely to call forth an awakening to our collective wisdom and our creativeintelligence, as we evoke our visions of the emerging world.

There is a separate registrationprocess for the retreat.

Please join old and new friends andcolleagues from around the world who seek tounderstand the powerful forces and potentials atplay in our world at this time. Let us exploretogether the challenges and the opportunities thatsurround us. We know that the world continues inall sorts of shifts, reframes, and transitions, as dothe communities and organizations of which we are a part, and for which we carry somuch hope. The experience of these changes is not always pleasant, but it certainly canbe exciting and it can offer new frontiers of life-work and possibility worth living into.

We won’t forget to add a generous dollop of playfulness. For if we ever tookourselves too seriously, there would be trouble. So now is the time to get our answersquestioned. Now is the time to dance together, to seek and create our next steps in thisnew world in a loving and supportive environment.

Do plan to come to this, the 24th annual international gathering on personal andorganizational transformation, which promises to be rich to surprises, mystery, fun, andinspiration.

Embarking on this learning adventure together we will explore new territory withmany questions and few simple answers, with many landmarks but no clear maps. Weanticipate that our learnings here will be generative of a wealth of insights, outcomes, inspirations, and surprises. However, the experience of content and achievement ofoutcomes will depend on the exercise of individual and collective responsibility – all ofus together. Our experience of content and achievement on this journey will reflect ourcollective intelligence, presence, and intentions.

• The agenda will be something we co-create once we are assembled• The content will reflect what each person brings or discovers• And our outcomes are likely to surprise, delight, and inspire us all!

What’s going to Happen?

The honest answer is that we won’t know until itactually happens. We will, however, explore our visionsof an ideal year 2020, and then create an Open Spacein which good thinking, creating, celebrating, sourcing, and just plain being together can take place. Beyondthis, we have only the expectations we bring fromdiverse places and the common traditions of the twentythree previous Symposia on OrganizationalTransformation.

We will honor the past, acknowledge thepresent, anticipate and give voice to the future. We’llalso learn about and celebrate the local culture.

OT 24 DesignThe design is simple and open. Given the exceptional talent that will be present,

the design is intended less to tell folks what to do than to provide a safe space in whichthey can do whatever needs to get done. We’ll use a variety of “appreciative dialogue”processes, including The World Café, Vision 2020: Voices of the Future, Open Spaceand Reflection Circles, to explore our own continuing journeys in an increasinglycomplex and polarized world. As in past years, we’ll spend most of our time in OpenSpace – just what the words imply -- a safe time / space for people to pursue thebusiness at hand. Morning Announcements and The Mid-Afternoon News –community times to bring people up to date with what has been happening and whatlies ahead. Celebrations – time to boogie, if that feels good. Closing – Nothing tooformal, just a simple time to reflect and to honor the Spirit we have shared.

Practicalities – Logistics – FacilitiesFull Participation – The symposium will not work with drop-ins. So PLEASE come forthe whole thing, in order that you may give and receive in full measure.

Pre-Conference Material – About one month before we meet, each participant willreceive a list of all participants who have registered, so you will know who is coming andwhere they are coming from. Should you wish to start a little early, feel free to call orwrite your co-conspirators.
