Chapter Activities
Time: 2nd February 2014 Welcome new SPIE Student membership
Congratulations to all of our membership, we are happy to see our great improvements in the
past year. At the same time there are new members to join us, they came from several
different major interested in our SPIE activities. It would be a nice year to get all of us to study
with SPIE members.
Time: July-August 2014 Paper submission and SPIE conference
In 2014, our five members submitted papers in the international conference “SPIE Optical
Engineering + Applications”. They introduced the academic experiences of paper submission
and publication, then gave us the new information for the next year conference that calls for
new papers. The SPIE offers us a wide range of chances for paper submission in these years,
including the related journal and conferences. In addition, the SPIE supports Jian Sun to
attend the SPIE conference in August.
Time: 12th September 2014 Electronics Design competition
Each year, in China, there are a variety of Electronics Design competitions held in different
universities. This year, we had also took part in it. During the contest period, we exchanged
and cooperated with each other using our familiar knowledge. Finally, we designed some
microwave circuits to overcome the electronics noise. It affords us more chances to
understand our main research by doing this.
Time: 26th November 2014 Academic exchange with researchers from Institute of
Eletronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences
The SPIE each year offers the academic funding for the experts in different fields to give
students worldwide lectures, which broadens our horizons. In November, we also invited
professors from Chinese Academy of Sciences to Jilin University to give us some wonderful
presentations, which helps us understand some unfamiliar field. During the meeting, Professor
Zhimei Qi from Institute of Eletronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences gave us a wonderful
presentation: ”Raman detection technology on the surface of the optical waveguide”. He also
discussed with us about the Micro Electro Mechanical Systems, integrated optical waveguide
sensor and system and surface spectral testing and analysis technology.
Time: 6th December SPIE Annual report and Student members’ celebration
In the end of this year, we invited all members to celebrate together. President “Tian Zhang”
made an annual report of the whole year’s work. Then we voted the officers for the next year
and congratulated them.
Future Plan
1 We plan to invite more foreign professors to give us reports.
2 We will organize more academic discussions.
3 Our members will make paper publications for SPIE conference in 2015.
4 Enroll new members into our chapter.
5 Organize more interesting activities and keep close relations with other SPIE chapters.
6 Encourage more student members to participate in more academic conferences.
