Epic Fail (The Deathstar)The fi rst rotomolded cast of Spik-E was a double skin of silicone and resin in a mold made from found objects. Because the outer form is Pet-G, the silicone layer is essential as a heat buffer for the curing resin. Below are two interior photographs; the left showing thecavity after the silicone cast and the right showing the resin layer that was injected into the silicone volume and rotomolded again. The failure was two-fold from the ad hocness of the mold and the weight limits on Roll-E.
