INTRODUCTION Congratulation on your investment in an Ayon Spirit vacuum integrated amplifier. With this amplifier, you have entered into the world of exclusive design which will give you great satisfaction and privilege of enjoying the advanced technology of Ayon Audio products. It is designed to serve as a high standard of truthful real musical performance. The care in engineering and manufacturing of this product anticipates a long time of enjoyment. We also encourage you to enlist the aid of the dealer from whom you purchased this Ayon Spirit amplifier. Your dealer is an excellent source of information on compatibility, installation, and troubleshooting, and should be capable of helping ensure that your overall music system provides you with maximum performance and satisfaction.

WHY VACUUM TUBES The output level of studio microphones under typical recording conditions contains peaks far in excess of what VU meters display. Everyone knows that, but the peaks, as measured with an oscilloscope, are really high, easily exceeding 1 volt! The tube or transistor used in a condenser microphone, or in a microphone preamplifier, often will be driven into severe overload by these peaks. The peaks are short, so the sound isn't grossly distorted-sounding; but the distorted peaks do affect what we hear. All preamps (and condenser microphone electronics) are overloaded by these peaks, but tubes handle it differently than solid-state devices. When transistors overload (in a discrete circuit or in an OP amp), the dominant distortion product is the third harmonic. The third harmonic "produces a sound many musicians refer to as blanketed”. Instead of making the tone fuller, a strong third actually makes the tone thin and hard. On the other hand, with tubes (particularly triodes) the dominant distortion product is the second harmonic: “Musically the second is an octave above the fundamental and is almost inaudible, yet it adds body to the sound, making it fuller”. Tubes sound better because their distortion products are more musical. Tubes provide a more appropriate load to transducers. Those are the fundamental reasons why tubes sound better.

CAUTION & HANDLING TIPS 1. Always be sure your hands are clean and free of any dirty or oils before carrying your Ayon Spirit. 2. Carry the amplifier with both hands by gripping its side. 3. Never hold the face plate against your clothing as coarse materials, stitching, belts and the rivets from denim pants can mar the surfaces. 4. Never set anything (CDs, LPs, papers, sharp items or other equipment) directly on top of the unit. 5. Use a soft cloth with non-abrasive cleaning product to clean your amplifier. 6. Gloves or a soft cloth will prevent "fingerprinting" of the Tubes during their installation. 7. When the unit is working on, be careful not to be scalded by hot vacuum tubes, so never touch them. 8. The unit should be put on an adequate ventilation place, and avoid placing the unit in direct sunlight or near sources of damp. 9. Never touch power plug with your wet hands.

OPERATING PROCEDURE (1) Mounting tubes

Please take out tubes, the unit from carton and place it on a firm, level surface. Insert vacuum tubes in accordance with tube numbers into relative sockets, pay attention to the direction of sockets pins and usage of strength. If the direction is wrong, usage of strength is too powerful, that could cause sockets pins broken.

(2) Connecting Rear panel Three sets golden speaker output terminals in the rear panel: left out, common, 4, 8, ohm, right out, common, 4, 8, ohm. Connecting speaker cabinet’s input terminals to corresponding speaker output terminals at the rear panel according to the impedance of speaker cabinet with high quality audio cord, and specially be careful to left, right direction, this means speaker cabinet’s left, right direction should match speaker output’s left, right direction, otherwise could affect greatly acoustic effect. LINE1, LINE2, LINE3, and LINE4 , connecting them with high quality RCA leads, you could select any set of source input jacks in LINE1, LINE2, LINE3 and LINE4( select them by the rotation of audio input selector). (3) How to operate remote control

ayon

How to install battery pair Take out the rear cover of remote control through a screwdriver, and then you could see a small battery compartment, after installation of battery pair according to it shows battery polarity, and fix the cover again with a screwdriver. Operation Make remote control emitter face to reception window of the amplifier, increase the volume by pushing its right button or diminish the volume by pushing its left one. If the remote distance of remote control becomes shorter or remote control area becomes smaller, that indicates battery pair voltage to be already faint, please replace them with new battery pair. Use a dry soft cloth to clean the remote control and battery spring when replacing them with new battery pair. Caution Avoid making the remote control being dampened or drop down suddenly. Keep it away from in direct sunlight. Make use of suitable battery according to the requirement of remote control When replacing them with a new battery pair, not mix new battery and old battery to make use together. You should know the quality of new battery before using it. Do not use recharged battery.

(3) Security caution in operation A. Please put the unit with care, as it is heavy. B. The vacuum tube pins series numbers are identical with socket’s ones, and insert tubes into sockets with proper strength when installing tubes. C. The used power voltage should be identical with that indicated beside power inlet at the rear panel. D. Please pull out AC power plug directly instead of dragging it E. Please don’t use the Pentode-Triode switch during the amp is Power ON Note: If you want to change the Pentode-Triode mode, please be sure that at first the amp is Power OFF. Bias adjustment The operation method is: contact TP1, TP2, TP3, TP4 with red rod of digital multimeter, and contact common ohm speaker out with black rod of one, the value that it displays is working electrical current of KT88 static working point. It should be approximate to 440mV, but check bias again after 20 minutes warm up and if it is necessary, please readjust it again.

(5) Caution about turning the unit on The used power voltage should be identical with that indicated beside power inlet at the rear panel. Turn volume control down to the minimum position. Rotate selector knob to the corresponding position that you use sound source. The cords of connecting speaker cabinet must be connected to be properly. Pay attention to whether the Ayon logo illuminates. Note: NEVER REMOVE THE BOTTOM PLATE OF THE SPIRIT BEFORE UNPLUGGING THE UNIT FROM THE WALL!

BREAK IN PERIOD Your new Ayon electronics have an initial break – in period. They will not perform to their full sonic potential when first installed in your system. This is partially due to a residual polarization of the dielectric materials used in the PCB, like resistors, capacitors, chokes, transformers and internal wiring. As music is played through the unit, the electrical signal will gradually anneal these materials. Only after the break- in period will the full performance of your Ayon electronics is realized. The break-in process will occur naturally as music is played through the system. The recommended break-in procedure is as follows: ° Initial warm-up: five to eight hours of quiet music. ° Extended break- in: 30 to 50 hours of mid volume level and dynamic source material. Note: Do not burn – in tube power amps during day and night, turn off them after using more than 6- 8 hours and give them a break before you turn on again. Just burn-in it without any stress and use the system as normally you would be listen music. During the break-in period, the sonic properties of your electronics may undergo several gradual shifts as the various components break–in at different rates. It is therefore suggested that the fine tuning of the system be delayed until after the break – in period is completed. However, during the final phases of the break–in period, the sonic image will open up, the sound stage wills again specificity, the bass control and impact will increase, and the overall sound will have a more, involving presentation.
