• Rate: A ratio that compares two quantities with different kinds of units.

• Unit Rate: When a rate is simplified so that it has a denominator of 1 unit, it is called a unit rate.

• Determine units rates.

Find Unit Rates

READING Julia read 52 pages in 2 hours. What is the average number of pages she read per hour?

Write the rate as a fraction. Then find an equivalent rate with a denominator of 1.

Write the rate as a fraction.

Divide the numerator and denominator by 2.

Simplify.

Answer: The average number of pages Julia read, or unit rate, is 26 pages per hour.
