The Residential System

The Residential System was introduced in Brunei in 1906. It was a result of the Supplementary Protectorate Agreement between Sultan Hashim and John Anderson of the British Government. The Resident in Brunei had wide-ranging powers. He secured all the executive power. He made several changes to Brunei system of administration. The Residential System lasted for 53 years.
