Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood

Early Childhood Research Grants The Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood is an incubator of promising research and development projects that appear likely to improve the welfare of young children, from infancy through 7 years, in the United States. Welfare is broadly defined to include physical and mental health, safety, nutrition, education, play, familial support, acculturation, societal integration and childcare. Grants are only made if a successful project outcome will likely be of significant interest to other professionals, within the grantee’s field of endeavor, and would have a direct benefit and potential national application. The Foundation’s goal is to provide seed money to implement those imaginative proposals that exhibit the greatest chance of improving the lives of young

The Arthur Vinning Davis Foundations

Interfaith Leadership & Religious Literacy Program As our nation becomes increasingly diverse by all definitions, it is essential that leaders are prepared to model meaningful engagement among different faith traditions. Such leaders include those who serve in clerical roles as well as in civic, academic, business, professional, and nonprofit sectors. The Foundations are interested in supporting programs that prepare leaders to foster mutual respect for religious beliefs and traditions and that address the ways in which our multifaith society appreciates inquiry and magnifies the need for civil discourse. The Foundations are interested in programs that enhance public understanding of the religious beliefs and practices that shape America, both historically and in the present. Although we live in a country where many self-identify as having religious beliefs, studies show that a majority of the population lacks basic knowledge and understanding of major faith traditions. Eligible institutions may request planning grants that range from $25,000 up to $100,000, or comprehensive grants up to $250,000 - $300,000.

Agency in the Physical World FQXi’s programming encompasses both 'open' requests for proposals and more targeted programs in particular areas of thought. The current request for proposals targets research on Agency in the Physical World, both in physics and also in related fields including cosmology, astrophysics, philosophy of physics, complex systems, biophysics, neuroscience, computer science, and mathematics. This program builds upon FQXi’s past programs, most recently Physics of the Observer, and intersects with the FFF's focus on foundational questions at the frontiers of physics, biology, and consciousness research. This RFP is made as a partnership between FFF and FQXi, and administered by FQXi. Agency in the Physical World hopes to inspire the drawing of deep connections from the most fundamental descriptions in physics and cosmology, to description in terms of agency, intelligence, and consciousness within our physical theories. How do we define

Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund for Medical Research

Fellowship Awards The JCC Fund was established in 1937 for the purpose of supporting research into the causes and treatment of cancer. The Fund has taken a broad approach to the study of cell growth and development, emphasizing the study of the basic biology and chemistry of the underlying processes. The Fund has increasingly focused its resources on the funding of three-year postdoctoral Fellowships, supporting Fellows at what is often a critical stage in their careers. Between 25 and 30 three-year Fellowships are awarded annually. The basic stipend is $52,000 for the first year, $52,500 for the second year, and $53,000 the third year, with an additional $1,000 for each dependent child. An allowance of $2,000 a year toward research will be made available to the laboratory sponsoring the fellow. The Fellow will have access to $1,800 for travel to science meetings. In addition to the travel allowance, the Fund provides a travel award for the Fellow and their family to travel to the sponsoring laboratory.

JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Project Concepts (Strategic Research Agreement) JDRF’s Strategic Research Agreements provide research funding for single or multiple investigators to address critical gaps and challenges and potential breakthroughs in Type 1 diabetes research. The Strategic Research Agreement is a partnership between Investigator(s) and JDRF Scientists to help address roadblocks and accelerate JDRF’s mission through support of cutting-edge scientific investigation. Further, this mechanism embodies cooperative development of a research plan, interim quarterly reporting on milestones and interaction with JDRF scientists prior to and during the award period. The budget and duration of funding are variable and continued funding is based on satisfactory effort and quarterly progress on milestones.

Sponsor Title and Description Deadline NORD, with funding from The Hope Fund, is accepting applications for a total of $50,000, for scientific and/or clinical research studies related to malonyl-CoA decarboxylase deficiency, a rare metabolic condition that prevents the body from converting certain fats to energy. The signs and symptoms of this disorder are variable, but may include delayed development in childhood, hypotonia, seizures, diarrhea, vomiting, metabolic acidosis, hypoglycemia, ketosis, abnormal urinary compounds, lactic academia and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This condition is caused by mutations in the malonyl-CoA decarboxylase gene (MLYCD) gene, and is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. The MCD enzyme is involved in the degradation of malonyl-CoA and it appears that inhibition of fatty acid synthesis as a result of malonyl-CoA accumulation is responsible for at least some of the clinical manifestations of the disorder. This condition is known as malonic aciduria, malonic acidemia, malonyl-coenzyme A decarboxylase deficiency, and MCD deficiency.

Smith Richardson Foundation Domestic Public Policy Program The mission of the Smith Richardson Foundation is to contribute to important public debates and to address serious public policy challenges facing the United States, with the goal of helping to ensure the vitality of our social, economic, and governmental institutions.
