Annual conference and exhibition 2014Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities

The NHS Confederation annual conference and exhibition continues to be regarded as the premier event for NHS leaders and partners from across all parts of health and social care.

As we approach the 2015 general election, the potential for manifesto

promises which could result in more upheaval in the NHS, and the wider healthcare sector, is a distinct possibility. It is for that very reason that the NHS Confederation launched its 2015 Challenge in September. We believe the NHS must start work now to collectively articulate and evidence to politicians the changes we need to make and ensure that, following the conclusion of the election, we are ready to implement them.

The programme for next year’s conference will be themed around our 2015 Challenge; a two-part challenge to politicians to create the space for change essential for the NHS’s future, and to the NHS to be ready to make the change, and do it well.

Attracting nearly 1,600 senior NHS leaders, stakeholders and partners, our conference provides an important platform for the whole system to come together to explore these challenges and lead change for future healthcare.

Building on the success of this year’s event and listening to feedback from both delegates and supporters, we are making some changes to the format of the 2014 conference by moving the plenary hall to the exhibition hall, providing a greater footfall through the exhibition. We have also introduced a number of exciting new features to our packages which provide a unique

Forewordopportunity for you to engage directly with senior NHS leaders, and build visibility for your products and services within an ever growing NHS market. Further information about these opportunities are set out in this brochure.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and I look forward to welcoming you to our annual conference and exhibition in Liverpool next June. In the meantime, you can keep up to date with all the latest conference news by joining our LinkedIn group or following us on Twitter.

The NHS Confederation annual conference and exhibition is established as the essential event for the leadership of the NHS where all parts of the healthcare system come together.

The event mixes keynote speakers from the political world and national health organisations, with breakout sessions that address the key issues facing the health system today. It offers delegates an unrivalled opportunity to gain information and insight to support them in their work and network with colleagues and suppliers, all in one location.

Who attends? In 2013, over 1,600 delegates attended the conference; the same number that attended in 2012. Delegates at the conference are made up of the most influential decision-makers in the new healthcare landscape.

Delegate feedbackFeedback from delegates about the event in 2013 was very positive:

• 92 per cent rated their overall impression of the event as good or excellent – an increase on previous years

• 94 per cent said it was worthwhile taking time out of the office to attend, compared to 89 per cent in 2012

• 91 per cent made contacts to follow up with – higher than in the previous three years and up from 82 per cent in 2012

• 73 per cent said they would consider returning next year, up considerably on 57 per cent in 2012

• 93 per cent would recommend the event, up from 86 per cent in 2012.

New ways to engage with delegatesIn 2014, there will be new and more effective ways for organisations to engage with the event and delegates.

• to ensure maximum footfall within the exhibition hall throughout the event, the auditorium will be situated in the arena hall, adjacent to the exhibition

• there are new opportunities to build a joint working relationship that lasts through the year

• greater opportunity for supporters to speak in breakout sessions

• facilitated networking within the exhibition hall.

This is the last NHS Confederation annual conference and exhibition before the next general election and it will be the gathering place to discuss and develop our new 2015 Challenge campaign. The 2015 Challenge is a two-part challenge to politicians to create the space for change essential for the NHS’s future, and to the NHS to be ready to make the change, and do it well. The NHS is facing the most challenging period in its 65 year existence. Treasury funding will be, at best, level in real terms. Given that demand continues to rise, drugs cost more, and NHS inflation is higher than general inflation, the health service is facing a funding gap estimated at up to £30 billion by 2020.

To make the sort of change necessary to bridge this gap will require political courage and an NHS making a well-articulated and evidenced case for change. Undertaking such change is significantly easier in the two years after a general election, rather than the two years before. The 2015 Challenge will be a strong theme running throughout our Annual Conference and exhibition, and provides new opportunities for partners to get involved and to engage with members. Please contact us for more information on what role your organisation can play.

Strand theme partnersLeadership challengeThe future sustainability of the NHS rests on the quality of its workforce and in particular the strength of its leaders to make the right changes to improve quality and save money. We know that in order to do this successfully, leaders need the space to come together to learn from each other and share their experiences. Practical sessions will offer an opportunity to learn from inspiring leaders drawn from the NHS and beyond. Listen to leaders talk about their experiences of managing during tough times and hear about how they successfully led changes to their organisations. Learn new skills to enable better engagement with the staff and the public and discuss what is required of leaders at all levels now and in the future.

Care challengeAn ageing population with more people living with long-term conditions means that patients needs have changed, as have their expectations. It is therefore crucial that the health and social care system meets those needs by delivering properly coordinated, person-centred care, treating everyone with dignity and respect. This strand will hear about what patients want, it will examine the quality of care they are currently getting and explore how to ensure that everybody, in particular the most vulnerable, receive the sort of care they need.

Value challengeImproving quality within increasingly strained budgets each year is a significant challenge for the NHS and it will continue to require its leaders to make some very tough choices. It is therefore crucial that they have the right tools and support to make those decisions. This strand will focus on providing practical tools

for ensuring the right balance between finance and quality, in order that world-class NHS services remain sustainable in the years ahead. It will be an opportunity to hear from those people involved in changing services, often in innovative ways, and to take away shared lessons about what does and doesn’t work.

System challengeThe changes to the health system were brought in with the intention of making the NHS more patient-centred, improving outcomes and strengthening clinical leadership. But how far have the new structures delivered on these aspirations and what are the emerging issues? This strand brings together healthcare leaders and organisations that make up the new system to examine the challenges they are facing, fulfilling their individual roles and working together. In particular, it will explore how the system has developed, bringing in issues like the new inspections and rating system, as well as the challenges and opportunities facing new commissioners.

Political challengeWith a general election looming, the challenges facing the NHS and the future of health and social care will undoubtedly be an important battleground for politicians. It’s vital that healthcare leaders have a voice in these debates and that the most significant health-related, political challenges are well understood. This strand provides a unique opportunity for healthcare leaders and senior politicians, past and present, to come together to discuss the main challenges in the run up to the general election. It will look at topical issues that have dominated the political landscape in recent years, as well as considering those that are likely to feature more prominently in the 2015 election.

Patient challengeThe NHS aspires to put patients at the heart of everything it does, but what does this mean in practice and how can this ambition be achieved? Many people believe part of the solution lies in the development of a new relationship between patients and the NHS, which is more collaborative than ever before. This strand will look at ways of creating that relationship, through greater co-production and more personalisation. It will also highlight the value and importance of looking at service delivery from a patient perspective.

Annual conference and exhibition 2014Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities

Whether you’re launching a new product or service, raising your profile within the sector or seeking to maintain contact with your customer base, then the NHS Confederation annual conference and exhibition provides the best opportunity in the year to do so.

This year we have listened to our exhibitors and moved the main auditorium so that it will be adjacent to the exhibition, encouraging greater footfall during lunchtimes and breaks. All delegate lunches will be served within the exhibition area and we are adding new features to attract visitors.

ExhibitionWhy exhibit?Face-time with your customers and prospective clients is an enormously effective way to get your message across:

• all in one room: how much time and expense does it take you to get your sales team to contact, get an appointment and then visit a leader of a NHS trust

• two-way conversations: don’t just talk, listen to your customers, find out what they need and shape your service around them

• counter misconceptions: does your market really understand your organisation and all you can do for them? Find out why some potential clients are not using your products – challenge their objections

• put your people on show: your staff can be your greatest advocates – exhibiting gives them the opportunity to connect with the sector, communicate your message and know your marketplace.

Also:

• nine hours of dedicated exhibition time in 2013

• increased opportunity for exhibitors to network with delegates in 2014

• exhibition only pass available to members.

Also in the exhibition hall:• TV screens broadcasting the plenary sessions

• Barista cafe

• – Recharging zone

• Exhibitor showcase

• – Drop-in sessions

• NHS Village

• – Seating, meeting, and networking points

• NHS Confederation reception.

Annual conference and exhibition 2014Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities

The NHS & Partner Exchange is now an established and successful feature of the conference programme.

The partner exchange provides organisations with the opportunity to showcase their work and discuss successful examples of joint working between partners and the NHS.

Partners can choose their own time slot (on a first come, first served basis) from a selection that take place alongside core sessions, or in breakfast or end-of-day slots. Once sessions are confirmed, they are then marketed to delegates through a series of emails, on the event website and through social media. Onsite, sessions are promoted on room signage, in flyers and the event guides.

We are offering a total of eight sessions and we are inviting organisations to submit proposals outlining session ideas. The NHS Confederation conference programme board will meet to review proposals and will appoint sessions that are most relevant to our delegate audience and cover themes not replicated on the core programme.

Submissions will need to be made on a submission form. To request a form, or to find out more, please email: [email protected]
