After moving to Victoria three years ago, Tipungwuti played for Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup Grand Final, as well as the NT under-18s side — which took out the National Division 2 Championship last season. Essendon’s VFL oper- ations manager Matt Little said the promising 18-year- old was an exciting prospect. ‘‘We are thrilled to have Anthony on board for 2013 and believe he can add some real class to our side,’’ he said. ‘‘Anthony attended draft camp but was unfortu- nate not to receive a spot on an AFL list, so we are happy to be able to provide him with an opportunity. ‘‘He has great hands, is very clean with the ball and makes the most of every op- portunity he gets.’’ Tipungwuti first played for the Tiwi Bombers at just 16 before deciding to pursue his football dream by mak- ing the move to Melbourne. Franklin and Rioli may only play in one of the two games but their presence el- evates the return of compe- tition football in Queensland this year.
