So sports help you feel more peaceful, happy and sleep better. Brain power: When you are involved in sports, you are more likely to experience academic success. Exercise improves learning, memory, and concentration, leading to good performance. Look good and live healthy: People who are involved in sports burn more calories and look more toned than those who don’t. Sports keep your body at a healthy weight. This decreases the risk of developing heart diseases, diabetes and high blood pressure. Sports and exercise helps your vital organs such as the heart and lungs to function better and body muscles to work hard. This improves your strength and stamina and helps you stay healthy. Hard work and teamwork: Through sports you learn that by working hard you can get what you want in life. You learn to set goals and work to achieve those goals. Sports help you develop teamwork and leadership skills. You learn to work together as a team to win the game. Sports involve competition, where there is winning and losing. This teaches you that life involves successes and failures. Through sports you learn to accept successes and failures in a good spirit and behave with respect for others when you win. It also helps you learn to deal with lose without giving up or abusing others. Peace and unity: Sports provide an environment in which people show respect for others, share space and equipment. This promotes peace-building in communities. By sharing sport experiences, sport girls and boys increasingly grow to feel that they are alike, rather than different. Safe from risky behaviour: Sports occupies mind. When you get involved, you are less likely to get involved in risky behaviour like early sex or taking drugs and alcohol which cause ill health such as HIV/ AIDS. Sports allow you to discuss HIV/AIDS in a more relaxed atmosphere. You realize the effects that these destructive activities can have on your healthy. Self-esteem and confidence: Sports gives you a real sense of satisfaction and pride. Through sports you get a chance to take on responsibilities as a team player working towards winning. When you know you can play, practice, improve and achieve your goals builds your confidence. Economic benefits: Some students win prizes like money and scholarships for excelling in sports. Make friends: Through sports you can make new friends. Friends also make you feel happy and have someone to talk with.
