NEWS LETTER 2013-14

It is a great pleasure for me to learn

that the Sports Board, University of

North Bengal is going to publish the

4th Edition of its News Letter. The

dedication and contribution of the

students of different colleges under

the University of North Bengal in the

field of sports is really praiseworthy.

The Students from our affiliated col-

leges have put their signatures on

various National Events including

participation in Republic Day Pro-

gramme of this year as well as

through their selection for the prestig-

ious NSS State award. The Sports

Board of the University of North Ben-

gal thus has helped in emerging the

hidden talents of the students of vari-

ous colleges. I appreciate such activi-

ties of the Sports Board and hope that

they will enrich our University with

their contribution in future.

In line of earlier tradition, the next issue

of the Annual News Letter for the year

2013-2014 is going to be published. The

ventured initiated in 2011-12 is in the

process with updated information and

pictures of the achievements of the stu-

dents of the University of North Bengal.

In line with its dedicated aim of advanc-

ing the causes of games and Sports, the

North Bengal University Sports Board

has been successful in many dimensions

and during the year many colourful

feathers could be added on the cap of

Sports Board and the University.

‘Games are creative and mindful expres-

sion of the human spirit which comes out

through the creation of activity that has

an entertaining, flexible, instructive and

competing element’- The North Bengal

University Sports Board is dedicated to

advance the causes in right direction and

with full support towards the

achievement.

in the All India Inter Uni-

versity Table Tennis Tour-

nament for the year 2013-

14 at Kolkata under the

auspices of Calcutta Uni-

versity from 16th to 19th

February, 2014.

INTER COLLEGE KABADDI (M)

The Inter College Kabaddi (Men) Tournament was organized by Sports Board, NBU at the

Khelaghar on 5th March, 2014. Falakata College won the Championship Trophy beating Coochbehar

College in the Final. Ten Colleges took part in the said Tournament. Sri. Robin Barman of Falakata

College was selected for the Best Player award.

The 44th Inter College Athletic Meet 2013-14 was

organized by the Ananda Chandra College,

Jalpaiguri at the College Ground on 15th & 16th

November, 2013. Twenty-nine Colleges have taken

part in the said Athletic Competition.

Women Section : The Ananda Chandra College,

Jalpaiguri picked up the Championship title (Right)

beating Sukanta Mahavidyalaya, Dhupguri by 31-26

points. Smt. Himashri Roy of Ananda Chandra Col-

lege was awarded the Best Athlete (Women)

Men Section: Siliguri College won the

Team Championship title (Left) beating

the Maynaguri College, by 47-20 points.

Sri Mithun Pandit of Siliguri College

was awarded the Best Athlete (Men)

Award.

INTRODUCTION OF MENS’ KABADDI

INTER COLLEGE ATHLETIC MEET (M & W)

INTER COLLEGE KH0-KHO (M )

The Panu Dutta Majumder Memorial Inter College

Kho-Kho Tournament was organized by Coochbehar

College, on 16th October, 2013. Cooch Behar Col-

lege clinched the Champion trophy by beating Fa-

lakata College in the Final. Md. Jahanur Hoque of

Cooch Behar College secured the Man of the Final

title.

INTER COLLEGE FOOTBALL (M)

Daju Sen Memorial Inter College Football (M)

Tournament was organized by the Falakata College

at, Falakata from 23rd to 1st September, 2013.

Twenty-six Colleges have participated in the said

tournament. The Falakata College has won the tro-

phy beating the Model B.P.Ed. College in the final.

Sri Pratap Kujur of Falakata College took the Best

Player award & Amit Kujur took Man of the

match of Final.

INTER COLLEGE KABADDI (W)

The 7th Inter College Kabaddi (Women) Tourna-

ment was organized by Sports Board, NBU at the

Khelarghar on 4th March, 2014. Siliguri College won

the Championship Trophy beating Falakata College

in the Final. Ten Colleges took part in the said Tour-

nament. Smt. Suman Lakra of Siliguri College was

selected for the Best Player award.

INTER COLLEGE KH0-KHO (W)

The 2nd year Panu Dutta Majumder Memorial

Inter College Kho-Kho Tournament for

Women was organized by the Falakata College.

Cooch Behar College clinched the Champion

trophy by beating Falakata College in the Final.

Smt. Malati Singha Roy of Cooch Behar Col-

lege secured the Best Player of the Final title.

INTER COLLEGE TABLE TENNIS (M) & (W)

The S.P.Roy Memorial Inter College Table Tennis Tourna-

ment, 2013-14 was held at Khela Ghar, NBU Campus on 12th

& 13th September, 2013. Seven Colleges took part in the said

Tournament. In the team event, the Siliguri College of Com-

merce secured the Championship title beating the Siliguri

College , by 3-1. In the Individual (Men) section Sri Subham

Basak (Siliguri College of Commerce) became the winner

beating Sri Aman Dhanoti (Selisian College ) & in the

Women category, Smt. Oishwaryya Deb(A.P.C.Roy Govt.

College) became the winner beating Smt Sayani Bose of

INTER COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL (M)

The Inter College Volley-ball Tournament 2013-14

was organized by Sukanta Mahavidyalaya on 26th & 27th

September, 2013. Twenty –three Colleges participated in

the said Tournament. Sukanta Mahavidyalaya of Dhup-

guri took the championship title by defeating Saheed

Kshudiram College in the final game. Sri Tipu Chak-

raborty (Sukanta Mahavidyalaya ) was selected as Man

of the Match in the final game.

INTER COLLEGE CRICKET (M)

The Kiran Chandra Memorial Inter College

Cricket Tournament for the year 2013-14 was or-

ganized by Sports Board, NBU during 7th March to

14th March, 2014 at NBU Cricket Ground. Fifteen

Colleges took part in the said Tournament. Tufanganj

Mahavidyalaya has won the running trophy beating

Suryasen Mahavidyalaya in the Final. Sri Avijit

Saha of Tufanganj Mahavidyalaya became the Man

of the Final.

INTER COLLEGE BADMINTON (M & W)

The Gour Ch. Kundu Memorial Inter College Badminton Tour-

nament for the year 2013-14 was organized by the Sports Board at

Khela Ghar, NBU Campus on 9th & 10th September, 2013. In the team Championship, Falakata College won the title beating Siliguri

College, Darjeeling by (3-0). In the Individual Category, Sri Sank-

hadeep Bhattacharjee of Raiganj University College became Champion and Sri Uttam Roy of Falakata College was the Runner-

up. In the Women’s section, Smt Sheetal Pradhan of St. Joseph’s

College won the Individual title beating Smt. Neha Rai,of St. Jo-seph’s College .

Cycle Safari

The Sports Board, NBU organized the 3rd year

Cycle Safari Programme which was started from

the University and ended at the University. The

Cycle Safari team travelled three Districts of

North Bengal. The programme was organized by

Sports Board successfully. The Cycle Safari team

consisted of 25 members and covered around 300

kms .

TURF WICKET IN THE NBU CAMPUS

One Day Trek for Girls

The Sports Board, NBU introduced a One Day

Trek Programme for Girls this year. The Trek

team consisting 37 members started Treking

from upper Kalijhora in the Latpuncture Route.

The Girls along with 7 membered escort team

trekked around 12km at the Hills of Latpunc-

ture and finished at Upper Kalijhora. The

Programme generated great amount of

enthusiasm among the participants.

The Sports Board, University of North

Bengal prepared three nos. of ‘Turf

Wickets at the University Cricket

Ground with the financial assistance of

Rs. 3.50 lacs from the Cricket Association

of Bengal. The Kiran Chandra Memorial

Inter College Tournament was organized

in the said TURF Wickets. The Wickets

have been appreciated by all the distin-

guished Guests present on the Occasion

and the CAB Representative,

Mr. Biswarup Dey .
