ATTRACTIONS

DININGSouthwest Louisiana is a food lover’s dream with hundreds of restaurants to choose from! With succulent

crawfish, crabs, gumbo and seafood, our authentic Cajun restaurants will make your mouth water.

Traditional Cajun dancing and music thrive at several local restaurants. For those hungry athletes looking

for a quick bite to eat, numerous fast food restaurants are located throughout the area and in close

proximity to sports facilities. A complimentary dining guide is available at the Southwest Louisiana

Convention & Visitors Bureau.

CREOLE NATURE TRAIL ALL-AMERICAN ROADDiscover one of the nation’s last great wildernesses. Known as Louisiana’s Outback, the 180 mile trail

winds through bayous, marshland, national wildlife refuges, and shores along the Gulf of Mexico. It is

an amazing blend of man and nature, and a unique opportunity to view Louisiana’s fertile prairies, lush

marshes and abundant wildlife. Fish, crab or just view hundreds of bird species, wildflowers and alligators

up close and personal!

HISTORIC CHARPENTIER DISTRICTOur past is preserved in the Historic Charpentier District of Victorian homes, placing Lake Charles on

the National Registry of Historic Places. Visitors can enjoy a step back in time with a walking or driving

tour of one of the finest collections of Victorian architecture in the state, dating from the late 1800s.

Since there were no architects in evidence here until the early 1900s, the structures reflect the individual

characteristics of the carpenters (charpentiers in French) and builders.

MUSEUMS Elegance, history, culture, and beautiful architecture highlight this whirlwind tour of Southwest Louisiana.

The area has five delightful museums depicting the history of Imperial Calcasieu including the Mardi

Gras Museum with the largest display of Mardi Gras costumes in the South, the Brimstone Museum,

the DeQuincy Railroad Museum, the Children’s Museum, and the Imperial Calcasieu Museum. Central

School Arts and Humanities Center is located in this district, housing many fine arts including the Black

Heritage Gallery as well as the Mardi Gras Museum.

BETTIN’ ON THE BAYOUYou will hit the jackpot when visiting Southwest Louisiana, where you can “bet on the bayou!” Experience

breathtaking horseracing, live poker, slots, your favorite tables game, luxurious accommodations, fine

dining and top-name entertainment. The area has three fabulous casino complexes including L’Auberge

du Lac Hotel & Casino Resort, the Isle of Capri Casino & Hotel, and Delta Downs Racetrack Casino &

Hotel. Coming in 2009 is Sugarcane Bay Resort & Casino.

SHOPPINGWith an abundance of national stores, specialty shops, antique shops, outlets, and local boutiques,

shopping in Southwest Louisiana is an adventure for the young and the young at heart.

RECREATIONAL FACILITIES/SITE INSPECTIONSAllow us to take you on a site inspection of lodging and sporting venues.

BID PROPOSALSGive us your event specifications, and the CVB will take it from there! Let us find the perfect venue for your event by sending out

bid proposals to area venues suitable for your event and area hotels to house your participants. Once we’ve done all the groundwork,

we’ll present the event planner and/or site committee with a variety of options. From national championships to regional tournaments,

Southwest Louisiana offers many options, and the CVB will make the planning process convenient and efficient.

EVENT INCENTIVE – SPORTS WAR CHEST GRANTSThe Sports War Chest Grant program provides funds, of $2,000 up to $10,000, for sports organizations which directly impact tourism in

Southwest Louisiana. A minimum of 500 or more total hotel room nights are required before any funding can be considered.

ATTENDANCE PROMOTIONThe bureau will supply and mail promotional materials including a welcome letter and brochure to your delegates in advance to stimulate

excitement about the event or tournament in Southwest Louisiana.

WELCOMING COMMITTEEWhether it be our goodwill ambassador, Gumbeaux Gator, a group of Mardi Gras Twelfth Night Revelers or an official welcome by area

dignitaries, allow the CVB to make the opening of your sporting event one that participants will always remember.

REGISTRATION ASSISTANCE A homepage “registration link” with pdf registration forms are available for events on www.visitlakecharles.org for groups using 500 or more

total room nights. The bureau will post downloadable forms, which must be completed by participants and sent to the organizer.

AREA INFORMATIONDitty bags with area brochures and Gumbeaux Gator stickers are available for groups booking 50 rooms or more. The bureau will be happy

to provide you with a mailing list of area businesses and organizations who may contribute items for your ditty bags. In lieu of individual

brochures, the CVB can set up an information display at your venue. Complimentary general area maps that include points of interest and

accommodations are also provided. When it comes time for your event to begin, the CVB staff is always on hand to provide event support,

whether it’s on-site or behind the scenes. It’s our job to make your planning as stress-free as possible.

PUBLICITYA press release form is available upon request to be completed and returned to the bureau three weeks prior to your event. The release will

be disseminated to local media outlets, applied to KPLC-TV’s Breakfast Bar, and posted on www.visitlakecharles.org free of charge. For

events with 500 or more total rooms blocked, the CVB can schedule out of town media appointments. For events with 1,500 total rooms

blocked, the CVB will host a press conference, upon request.

The Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) takes pride in making your life

a little easier. In addition to assisting groups with accommodations, here is what our Sales

and Services Department can do for you:

*The CVB cannot guarantee that the media will publicize every event.

The relationship USSSA/Sports Productions has developed with Southwest Louisiana is the model by

which others should be judged. The Lake Charles Multi Sports Complex is a phenomenal facility.

And the effort put forth by the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau goes far above my

expectations and well exceeds the service that our events have received in other areas of the country.

JOEY ODOMUSSSA Executive Vice-President

SUCCESS STORIES

The Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau has proven to be our facilities’ rudder for event

planning. Our facilities have hosted over 100,000 sporting, recreation and cultural event attendees. This

number is still growing thanks, in no small part, to their guidance, planning and execution.

NORMAN FARR Director, Sulphur Parks and Recreation

A top-notch facility, the Lake Charles Multi-Sports Complex allows us to bring in teams from around

the nation to the Louisiana Showcase of Soccer. The teams return to Lake Charles because of the great

facilities, the support of the community, and the unbeatable Southern hospitality.
