The Italian racing heritage is almost as long as its history : in almost all sports, both individual and team, Italy can boast of many successes. However, almost all the victories in team sports are a male prerogative, except for volleyball,water polo, and fencing. Italy's national sporting color is blue, borrowed from the heraldic emblem of the house of Savoy, the ruling dynasty from 1861 to 1946.

Football

Football is the most followed sport in Italy. Italian football is among the most excellent in the world, second only to that of Brazil. we won four World Cups (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006), a

European Championship in 1968, a gold medal at the Olympics in Berlin (1936) and two bronze medals (with its young team), the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics and 2004 Athens

Olympics. Even the national youth team are highly decorated.

Several Italian soccer teams have won numerous trophies at European and international level, improving international prestige of Italian football. These teams are AC Milan, Juventus -

the most famous clubs in the country - and Inter that have won 38 trophies so far with total international (respectively 18, 11 and 9), which are considered according to IFFHS, an

organization recognized by FIFA, among the ten best clubs in Europe of the twentieth century. Milan is the only European city that can boast of two teams who have become champions of Europe and boasts the most wins in the competition (10). Parma is the fourth Italian team to

many victories in competitions at UEFA / FIFA (4).

Italy has twice hosted the World Cup football in 1934 and 1990. Even the European football cup has been organized in our beautiful country twice: in 1968 and 1980.

BasketballBasketball is the second viewed sport in Italy after football (1,252,454 viewers in the halls of the League in season 2005/06 A). This discipline has always been generous with world trophies, not only for the U.S. , the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, but also for the national team over the last decade, as the club went through a good moment, thanks to an unprecedented generation of champions.

The Italian men’s “budget” in the European Championships (hosted 3 times: 1969, 1979 and 1991) is of 10 trophies. In detail: two golds (1983, 1999), four silvers (1937, 1946, 1991, 1997) and four bronze medals (1971 , 1975, 1985, 2003). Italy has not won a World Championship event ever hosted. At the Olympics, it has won two national silver medals in Moscow in 1980 and Athens in 2004. After this success, the Blues have no longer shined.

The women's basketball, monopoly of Russia (22 wins in 30 editions), has given a European gold (1938), one silver (1995) and bronze (1974), but it has no victories in the World Cup.

MotorsportItaly has great traditions in motor sports. Monza and Imola and Mugello are Famous

worldwide.

In motorcycling, the great champions of the past such as Archangels, Masetti, Ubbiali, prints & Giacomo Agostini (15 times world champion in the 350 and 500 cc classes with 10 victories in the Tourist Trophy) are followed by Max Biaggi, Loris Capirossi, Valentino Rossi, nine times world champion in the various classes. Brands such as Bianchi, Aprilia, Gilera, Guzzi, MV Agusta, Benelli and Ducati won the most prestigious races and won championships in all categories.

MotorsportIn Formula 1, the Scuderia Ferrari holds the record for drivers and constructors titles, victories for individual races and uninterrupted presence since the institution of the world championship in 1950.
