Harvey’s Humor Corner
On an airplane, an old man and a lawyer were sitting next to each other. The lawyer asked the senior if he wanted to play a game. The older man only wanted to sleep. The lawyer was adamant about playing a game and said it would be tons of fun. The rules: lawyer asks elder man a question, if he can’t answer it then he gives the lawyer a dollar. Then the elder asks the lawyer a question. If he can’t answer it then the lawyer gives the older man $20. The lawyer asks, “How far apart re the earth and moon?” The senior didn’t know, so he gave the lawyer a dollar. Then the senior asks the lawyer, “What walks upstairs, backward and comes downstairs forward?” The lawyer had no idea. He cheated by asking other passengers. Finally, he gave up. Then he woke the older man and gave him $20. The senior took the money and went back to sleep.

Davie News Update: Alvin Sherman Library
Last month some of the residents went on an exciting tour of Alvin Sherman Library, which is located on the Nova University Campus in Davie. The library was named after Alvin Sherman, a builder who was an enormous supporter of higher education and donated to the library. It is an unusual double facility serving the residents of Broward County and Nova students. The residents got to see the behind the scenes spectacular artifact room, which contains artifacts of the library. In addition, they toured the Holocaust Reflection and Resource Center. Also, they viewed the wonderful sculptures and art work contained in the library. Lastly, they saw the bookcases that electronically move back and forth to increase space for additional bookcases. The residents really enjoyed the tour.

Health News Update: Measles
Based on an article in the Miami Herald, Broward County is part of the national outbreak of measles and is stressing the vaccine for everyone, especially elders. The outbreak was acquired outside the United States and several states were affected, including Florida. It is very dangerous for all age groups. State health departments must collaborate to contain the measles. The article suggests ways to prevent measles: get the vaccine, cover mouth and nose to trap sneeze from those around you. Take care and stay healthy.

Creative Writing Class: Hoping and Wishing
Everytime Lisa and her mother went to K-Mart, Lisa wanted to see the bicycles. Her mother always took her provided she behaved herself. Lisa would look at all the bikes, but she dreamed of riding the shiny red one with the horn. “I like this one Mom. Can I have it for my Birthday?” she asked. “We will have to see,” was always Mom’s response. On Lisa’s birthday, the family gathered around the table. Mom brought in a beautifully decorated, homemade, chocolate cake with 8 birthday candles. “Make a wish and blow out the candles!” her brother Paul excitedly said. Lisa made her wish! Of course, she wished for the red bicycle from K-Mart. Lisa closed her eyes and with one strong breath, she blew out all the candles. Her Father pulled out a small box from his pocket and held it out for Lisa. “This is for you!” He said with a smile. “Happy Birthday sweetheart. Lisa took the small box from her Father and thanked him quietly. Clearly, Lisa was disappointed. She set the box on the table. “Well, aren’t you going to open it”? Her Mother asked. “I Will”. Lisa said with a pout. “Come on Lisa. Open the box”! Paul said with a tone of urgency. Lisa picked up the box and slowly opened it. Her eyes blurred with tears as she tried not to cry. Her wish did not come true. Inside the box was a slip of paper that read, GO OUTSIDE TO THE DRIVEWAY! Lisa dropped the box and ran outside. There it was. The red bike she had wished and hoped for. She put up the kickstand and sat on the seat of her new ride. Paul came up beside her and grabbed the handlebar and the back of her seat, helping her balance her new wheels. “Start pedaling”! Paul told her. For the next few days, Paul helped Lisa learn to ride the bike. Now the world was at her feet. Well at least a block or two. ------- Gertrude, Bobbie, Beverley, Maureen, Lee,
