Dynamics 365 Business Central Install Notes

Do this in your ‘enterprise’ Windows Server VM where you have admin authority, logging in with your admin credentials.

Download the DynBC install .zip and key file .flf from the course site. Unzip the install .zip to a folder, navigate into the folder, and double-click setup.exe file within.

Click Next on the banner, I accept on the License Terms, Advanced installation options, Choose an installation option, Custom (avoid clicking Load Configuration), install all except Outlook add-in, click Next.

Leave default parameters except scroll down to SQL Server Instance and blank it out (this will have the install use your existing SQL Server instance) and click Apply. That should kickoff the install which ‘should’ just run without issues. If you run into issues start Setup again and choose Repair (or go through the setup from the beginning if that is an option when re-running Setup).

After installation, probably a good idea to restart the server and log back in with your admin creds.

Validate that the install basically worked by using Start | Business Central Web Client which should open a web browser and access DynBC using your admin login.

Apply your product key by using Start | Dynamics NAV Development Environment and choosing Tools | License Information and then clicking Change in the License Information window …

… find and highlight the .flf license file you downloaded, click Open on the dialog; not the change to the license and exit the License Information dialog and then exit the NAV Development Environment (e.g., File | Exit but not shown below).

As the install default the DynBC web client is listening for http: on port 8080 (e.g., left screen cap below but nothing needs to be done, this is just to see it) so as a ‘quick and dirty’ public web deployment we will clean up later, add an inbound port rule for port 8080 to the Networking for your VM in the Azure Portal. When that is complete (and while your server is running) your DynBC should be reachable on the public internet at

http://{your VM DNS name}:8080/DynamicsNAV130

where you should use your VM login credentials via Windows authentication.
