The Church Connected Spring ‘08

By definition, Presbyterians are a connectional church. Our church government is comprised of lower and higher courts (session, presbytery, general assembly). The biblical warrant for this type of connected church is found in The Book of Acts, chapter 15. In this chapter we find that a debate about membership in local churches was ultimately resolved by a council comprised of the Apostles, and elders from a multitude of churches.

In addition to our form of government, we Presbyterians are connected in other ways as well. Chief among these is the union, the

connection, we share with each other because of our union with Christ. In John 17 we are reminded of this union through the words of Jesus himself as he prays for His church asking God the Father to make us one with each other and with the Godhead. He said, “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

The outward display of the connection and unity that we have with

one another is a significant means by which our great God draws the lost to Himself.

The Presbyterian Church in America through her Mission’s agency, Mission to the World, strives to encourage and grow this connection by having your missionaries work directly with you through the process of iteneration. Through this process, not only do we partner directly with you for prayer and financial support, but as your missionaries we are the connection between you and the vast mission fields around the globe.

Where We Stand Making Friends, Building Partnerships, Connecting the Church

Pledges Needs

Enterprise, Alabama; Middleburg, Florida; Hopewell, Virginia; McConnells, South Carolina, these are just a few of the cities and towns we’ve visited while raising support and building the partnerships needed to sustain us while we labor for Christ in Monterrey, Mexico. Our visits to the churches in these cities and towns also demonstrates the very real connection the body of Christ has around the world.

Prayer Requests

1. Our ChildrenThis continues to be more than any other issue our most pressing need. Pray that God will strengthen the hearts of our children as they contemplate leaving behind dear friends. Pray that God will provide godly friends for them in Monterrey.

2. Our TeamAs the Summer Impact season rolls in, pray that God gives our team all the health and strength needed to handle 30+ visiting churches and their teams. This is exhausting work, and there is little time to recuperate between teams

3. Our SupportOur goal remains to leave at the end of August. As you can see from the support graph on the previous page, we are expecting the miraculous. Our God is able to do exceeding abundantly more than we can ask or imagine.

Plan on attending the next vision trip scheduled for August 22-25.

Lees Travel Far and WideSince our last update, the Lees have been quite busy. Hannah has

completed her first year at Winthrop University. Amber has received her drivers license. And Jacob, after participating in the Choralier Spring Show is looking forward to the end of the school year and Summer vacation.

In the midst of all these wonderful events, Tricia and I have traveled far and wide. We have participated in a number of Missions Conferences, and are grateful for the friendships gained and the partnerships developed. Christ-like hospitality is a sure sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit, and we shared in the most gracious hospitality of Chuck and Glenda Haynes while we participated in Pinewood PCA’s (Middleburg, Fla.) annual conference. Next it was back to York County, SC. where we were treated as though we were royalty by the saints at Westminster PCA in Rock Hill, SC. during their annual conference. Tricia, then, had the privilege of speaking to Fellowship Presbytery’s annual Women in the Church conference. We also had the opportunity so share our vision with Scherer Memorial PCA in Lake Wylie, SC, and they have now come on as partners with us in Mexico.

And then, there is Olivet PCA in McConnells, SC. As you can see from the picture above, it is not huge. However, their heart for missions dwarfs the size of their building. They also have partnered with us. And, we have just been blown away by their excitement and zeal to partner, not only with us, but also to focus their missionary efforts in Northern Mexico.
