Introducing theEast Coast Paddlesportsand Outdoor Festival
ts the coolest small city in America, according to GQ. For two years
in a row it was ranked as the best cityin the US, according to Cond Nastraveler magazine. Most recently, thesame magazine named it the best cityon planet Earth. Indeed, our home hasreceived a lot o attention and accoladesrom visitors. Really, though, the resto the world is just realizing what localshave always known - Charleston is abeautiul, amazing place.
For sure, there is no shortage o natural
beauty in Charleston. Te city snugglesup to the Atlantic Ocean like a puppyand is traced by several tidal rivers thateed the marshes and create a base orthe unique and beautiul ecosystem thatmakes Charleston so incredibly special.Additionally, we enjoy over 300 days osunshine a year. As a result, outdoors isa way o lie.
Being surrounded by water, it shouldcome as no surprise that CCPRC hasbeen host to the largest water-basedestival on the East Coast or 22 years.Te event will be even better in April2013 as the East Coast Canoe and
Kayak Festival evolves into the EastCoast Paddlesports and OutdoorFestival (ECPOF). Te changerecognizes that while Charlestonmakes it easy to be at the oreront opaddlesports, Charlestonians enjoy allmanner o outdoor recreation.
We want to take what has been asuccessul event or 22 years and makeit better! exclaims Josh Hall, CCPRCOutdoor Recreation Manager and
mastermind o the estival. I youloved what we have been doing with thecanoe and kayak event, dont worry; itwill be here in all its glory with world-class instructors sharing their trips andknowledge with paddlers. Our hopeis to expand the event and give otheroutdoor enthusiasts a reason to cometake advantage o this great weekend.
o emphasize the exciting nature o thenew estival, this years event will eaturehigh-ying demos rom the GibbonsSlackline eam, who perormed withMadonna in the 2012 SuperbowlHaltime Show.
ECPOF promises to be the premier
event on the eastern seaboard oroutdoor enthusiasts. Whether youreinto paddling, biking, climbing, hiking, slacklining, camping, surng, disc gol,or anything else, ECPOF will make youeel like a kid in a candy store, assumingyou enjoy our planet Earth. Come seewhat all the uss is about.

ou, a park bench, some nearbyducks, and some old pieces o
bread. Sounds like a win-win orveryone the ducks get a ree meal
and you get rid o letovers. But itsactually a losing situation or bothanimals and visitors.
A variety o wildlie species call theparks home. Giving wild animals oodmay seem generous on the surace;however, eeding wildlie can leado serious animal health problems.
Human oods like bread and popcorndo not have the essential nutrientshe animals need and can lead to
malnutrition. Food handouts otenead to animals gathering in largegroups, which contribute to increased
waste droppings that oul parkwaterways and lands. And animalshat are ed by humans have also been
known to become more aggressiveand even steal ood rom people.Tis causes saety issues or parkvisitors because it can lead to bitingnjuries caused by animals like squirrels
and geese.
For some animals, being ed byhumans can be a death sentence.Alligators that are ed by people thenlearn to associate people with oodand may approach them in search ohandouts. When this happens, orsaety reasons, the alligator must bekilled by a licensed alligator agent.
Not all wildlie eeding is done onpurpose. Litter attracts unwanted parkvisitors like eral cats and raccoons.Drawing these animals to parklandsmay cause them to prey on smallerspecies like songbirds and cause localdeclines in their population numbers.
Te natural environment provideseverything an animal needs to surviveon its own. You can help maintain
the health o wildlie that live in yourcounty parks by making sure all trashis thrown away securely. And makesure that the ood you bring or yourmeals or snacks is consumed by youand your guests only. By not eedingwildlie, you are doing your part tokeep animals healthy and park visitorssae. Besides, who wants to live onbread alone?
