“I believe that FarmHouse has some of the best personal connec7ons and rela7onships with people on campus.” Brother Jonathan Harner of PC ’10 also stated, “We not only have the opportunity to help out a fellow brother, but this is also a great way to display how capable we are of geGng involved on campus. GeGng Eli elected would bring nothing but good to KSU and FarmHouse Fraternity!” AOer months of suppor7ng him and domina7ng the social media with “vote for Eli” posts, the Schooley Unruh campaign won 60% of the students’ votes, bea7ng the Nuss Mendiola campaign. He and Jake are already working hard to stay on top of their goals. Some of their plaUorms include improving the wireless connec7on on campus, and mee7ng with a variety of professionals who can act as execu7ve mentors for students in different majors. We enjoyed helping Eli throughout his campaign and con7nue to wish him the best for his term as the Student Body President! He is joined by a handful of our chapter alumni who also served as the KState Student Body President. It is truly amazing how far we can go when we act as a team to help a brother out, which can ul7mately lead us to improve in one of our four aspects. Justin Thomas (’12) Alumni Relations Chair !"#$%&'() !#"+)#,-+. !),/) 0&(+ 1",("( 2+"+) 34"5+)# When we were asked how we could improve as a house at FarmHouse Leadership Ins7tute (FLI) over winter break, our social aspect was a recurring topic. Throughout this spring semester we evaluated our chapter, especially at the Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) this past February in Billings, Montana. These FarmHouse Interna7onal events are designed to help us think of ways we can improve in our four aspects. We asked ourselves, how can we can get more involved on campus? To answer this ques7on, the spring semester has been a major leap as we displayed the FH lebers through a variety of social ac7vi7es. The majority of the excitement involved geGng to help brother Eli Schooley (PC ‘10) work his way toward being elected KState Student Body President. Eli is a senior in Poli7cal Science, who has been deeply involved in both FarmHouse and K State throughout his college career. His running mate for Vice President was Jake Unruh, a junior in Finance. Throughout the campaign, Eli encouraged us to promote their plaUorms by using word of mouth, Facebook, and Twiber. Chalking about the campaign on campus was another simple, yet effec7ve way to get Eli’s name out there for students who were not highly aware of the elec7ons. It was easy to get behind Eli as a team and chapter to help him win, especially aOer his encouraging words at our chapter mee7ngs, saying, FARMHOUSE FENCE POST Spring 2013 Schooley Unruh Campaign Campus chalking for Schooley Unruh Campaign

On April 21st Alumni and Chapter members joined at the house for our annual Founders’ Day celebrations. The day in-cluded the monthly meeting of FarmHouse Association, a hog roast, awards ceremony and a golf outing. We were pleased to have more than 30 alumni join us for the day, 16 of whom played golf as well as joining us for lunch.

The awards cere-mony included the Do-ane award, given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated great service to the House. Receiving this award was Andrew Pritchard (’05). Andrew lived in the house for four years and was still very actively involved and present in the chapter after moving out for his fi fth year. Receiv-ing awards for service to the chapter were John (’98) and Rebecca Bloomfi eld. Mr. Bloomfi eld was recognized with the Sny-der Award. He served as an advisor to the

chapter for three years prior to receiving the award. Mrs. Bloomfi eld was recognized with the Friend of FarmHouse Award. She recently performed an audit for the chap-

ter and was very helpful getting the books updated and corrected, working with the Treasurer to make sure everything was accurate. The Skinner award, given to a woman that has greatly affected the chapter

was given to Brenda Page, mother of Mi-chael Page (’06), who served as the Moms’ Club President for two years. She was responsible for coordinating two Moms’

Weekends and also helped the chapter on other occasions, baking for the chapter and at-tending activities when possible. Congratula-tions to the award re-cipients and thank you for your dedication and service to the chapter.

Golf was played outside of town at Stagg Hill Golf Club. The men played on teams of four, consist-ing of two alumni and two chapter members. Despite the slightly chilly weather, the men had a good time and had a friendly competi-tion between the teams.

Thank you to all the alumni who were able to come, and we hope to see more next year. The date for next year’s Founders’ Day will be posted online at www.ksfh.net early in the spring semester.

FarmHouse  alumni  and  friends,     It  has  been  a  very  enjoyable  and  evenUul  semester  here  at  FarmHouse.    From  having  brother  Eli  Schooley  (’10)  elected  Student  Body  President,  to  receiving  the  President's  Award  for  Fraternal  Excellence  by  the  Greek  Affairs  office,  our  chapter  has  much  in  which  to  be  proud.    With  so  much  going  on,  the  lible  things  can  be  either  forgoben  or  ignored,  but  the  thing  that  I  believe  sets  our  fraternity  apart  is  our  dedica7on  to  doing  the  lible  things  right.   Our  members  have  worked  hard  this  semester  to  excel  in  all  things,  big  and  small.    This  dedica7on  allows  us  to  do  things  that  would  normally  not  be  achieved  by  college  aged  men.    The  biggest  example  of  this  from  the  past  year  was  our  new  deck.    The  dedica7on  of  our  members  and  the  help  and  support  of  alumni  allowed  for  the  project  to  be  completed  on  schedule.    We  have  been  able  to  use  the  deck  in  a  variety  of  ways  and  have  greatly  enjoyed  the  addi7on  to  our  backyard.    It  is  a  testament  to  the  work  ethic  a  FarmHouse  man  should  strive  to  abain.    The  lessons  learned  though  ac7vi7es  like  these  are  invaluable  to  our  members  as  they  worked  together  to  achieve  these  goals.     Our  mobo  in  FarmHouse  is  "Builders  of  Men."    As  I  have  goben  older,  it  has  been  a  joy  to  observe  the  building  happening  every  day  in  our  members.    I  am

honored  to  be  one  of  76  very  talented  men.    Each  has  the  poten7al  to  make  a  great  impact  on  the  world,

regardless  of  their  intended  field  of  work.    They  have  pushed  me  to  improve  in  all  aspects  of  my  life  and  are  great  examples  of  how  one  should  live  their  life.  While  none  of  us  is  perfect,  we  all  share  the  same  desire  to  improve  and  become  the  best  version  of  ourselves  that  we  can  be.  I  feel  that  one  of  the  greatest  benefits  of  membership  our  fraternity  provides  our  members  is  being  surrounded  by  individuals  who  desire  to  become  beber.       We  hope  to  see  you  this  fall  at  the  annual  Fall  Alumni  BBQ  on  September  14,  or  any7me  you  are  in  the  Manhaban  area.  FarmHouse  is  a  special  place  because  of  the  people  we  have  been  blessed  to  know.  We  as  a  chapter  are  looking  forward  to  con7nuing  to  pursue  excellence  in  everything  we  do  and  making  sure  that  progress  marks  our  every  step.

From the President’s deskScholarships  Awarded

Jesse  Baker  and  Andy  Gilmore  are  this  year’s  recipients  of  FarmHouse  scholarships.  Jesse  received  the  Frances  Russell  Scholarship,  which  honors  the  service  of  housemothers  past,  present,  and  future.  It  provides  financial  assistance  to  help  a  senior  living  in  the  House  complete  his  baccalaureate  degree.  The  scholarship  was  established  through  a  generous  dona7on  by  Frances  Russell,  and  has  been  supplemented  by  addi7onal  contribu7ons  from  alumni.

Andy  received  the  Kansas  Chapter  Scholarship,  which  recognizes  scholarship,  ac7vi7es,  and  financial  need.  The  scholarship  was  funded  by  members  from  the  1950s,  including  Art  Armbrust,  Delmar  Conner,  Wayne  David,  Jim  Goering,  Robert  Lewis,  and  Ray  A.  Zimmerman.

Float TripWhat  do  you  get  when  you  combine  a  growing  angst  for  mari7me  adventure,  FarmHouse  ingenuity,  and  a  free  weekend?  FarmHouse  Float  Trip  2013.  A  clear  sky,  low  wind,  and  steady  current  welcomed  the  brothers  on  the  day  of  cas7ng  off,  as  they  began  the  annual  journey  from  Manhaban  to  St.  George.  The  armada  of  canoes  and  homemade  raOs  took  to  the  Kansas  River  for  a  weekend  of  relaxa7on,  bonding,  and  recrea7on  as  they  made  the  epic  voyage.  FarmHouse  crea7vity  was  in  full  bloom  throughout  the  trip  and  especially  during  the  pre-‐trip  stages.  Some  of  the  building  material  for  the  homemade  raOs  included  but  were  not  limited  to;  plywood,  barrels,  air  mabresses,  Styrofoam,  and  a  weed-‐eater.  The  imagina7ve  engineering  was  not  only  crea7ve  but  durable  as  well,  as  every  vessel  made  the  trip  with  ease.  AOer  an  aOernoon  of  paddling,  the  brothers  found  refuge  on  a  sandbar  where  campfires  were  made,  hotdogs  were

eaten,  and  a  lible  sleep  was  consumed  to  finish  the  night.  The  next  morning,  the  brothers  finished  the  trip  with  a  slight  head  wind  and  cruised  on  into  St.  George  a  lible  before  noon.  Overall,  the  float  trip  again  proved  to  be  a  great  success  not  only  as  an  opportunity  to  do  something  unique  but  a  chance  for  brother  bonding  before  the  beginning  of  summer.

On  April  20th,  Kansas  State  FarmHouse  Alumni  made  their  way  to  Manhaban.  With  the  University  Open  House  and  Founder’s  Day  for  FarmHouse  both  occurring,  we  were  able  to  have  a  great  turnout,  involving  over  25  alumni  and  their  guests.  The  morning  began  at  Colbert  Hill’s  Par-‐  3  golf  course.  We  had  a  mixture  of  20  ac7ves  and  alumni  with  four-‐man  teams.  AOer  golfing  and  sharing  some  laughs  on  the  course,  we  made  our  way  back  to  FarmHouse  for  the  luncheon  and  awards  ceremony.     The  Doane  Award  this  year  was  awarded  to  Bryce  Krehbiel,  a  senior  majoring  in  Food  Science/Pre-‐Optometry.  He  has  held  mul7ple  posi7ons  throughout  his  7me  in  the  house,  including  the  pledge  educator  and  recruitment  chair.  His  outstanding  integrity  and  service  to  the  house  easily  stood  out  to  his  fellow  brothers.  “There  are  a  lot  of  great  guys  who  deserve  this  award,”  said  Bryce,  humbly,  aOer  Founder’s  Day  was  over.  The  other  honor  was  the  Friend  of  FarmHouse  Award,  given  to  St.  Luke’s  Lutheran  Church  in  Manhaban,  KS.  For  many  years,  they  have  generously  allowed  us  to  use  their  building  for  our  Spring  Retreat.  The  retreat  is  a  7me  for  us  to  prepare  for  the  spring  semester  and  establish  our  goals  as  a  chapter.     The  next  alumni  event  will  be  the  Fall  Banquet,  which  will  mark  the  92nd  anniversary  of  FarmHouse.  It  will  be  held  on  September  14,  the  same  day  as  the  K-‐State  football  home  game  vs.  the  UMass  Minutemen.  The  7me  of  the  Fall  Banquet  will  be  determined  by  kickoff  and  will  be  announced  in  August.  We  thank  those  who  visited  on  Founder’s  Day  and  we  look  forward  to  the  Fall  Banquet!

The  men  of  FarmHouse  are  excited  to  welcome  in  22  new  members  for  the  pledge  class  of  2014.  We  had  over  150  young  men  display  an  interest  for  joining  FarmHouse.  The  recruitment  season  went  very  well  this  Spring  and  we  were  able  to  organize  three  successful  Experience  Weekends  for  poten7al  new  members  to  abend.  These  weekends  have  given  us  the  opportunity  to  both  be  social  and  search  for  quality  new  members.  We  saw  a  record  number  of  men  show  interest  in  the  house  with  over  50  men  abending  the  final  Experience  Weekend.  Our  Luau  Party  abracted  over  200  guests  total,  including  the  poten7al  new  members,  lots  of  ladies,  and  other  guests!  Our  new  deck  was  heavily  used  to  socialize  and  display  our  fruit  sculptures  designed  by  some  of  our  highly  ar7s7c  ac7ve  members.  This  great  interest  can  make  selec7ons  difficult,  but  it  is  a  great  blessing  to  have  so  many  men  seeking  to  join  the  chapter.  The  new  pledge  class  has  men  from  a  variety  of  backgrounds.  The  majority  of  the  class  are  gradua7ng  high  school  seniors,  but  also  includes  three  members  already  abending  college.  Members  are  from  across  the  states  of  Kansas,  as  well  as  one  member  from  Oklahoma,  and  are  pursuing  degrees  in  engineering,  agriculture,  music,  biology,  and  business.  We  would  like  to  thank  all  alumni  who  gave  us  recommenda7ons  of  young  men  to  consider  for  membership.  Your  recommenda7ons  helped  us  recruit  quality  men  and  we  would  like  to  acknowledge  your  assistance.  We  are  looking  forward  to  welcoming  the  new  pledge  class  this  fall  and  con7nuing  to  be  builders  of  men!

Another  major  social  ac7vity  was  our  par7cipa7on  in  the  Xi  Man  contest  this  spring,  Alpha  Xi  Delta  Sorority’s  philanthropy.  PC  13  member  Brandon  Douglas  helped  raise  money  for  Au7sm  and  par7cipated  in  the  Xi  Man  talent  show.  His  talent  not  only  involved  swing  dancing  with  his  coach,  but  included  him  singing  and  playing  guitar  to  Josh  Turner’s  country  hit,  “Why  Don’t  We  Just  Dance?”  His  posi7ve  aGtude  and  efforts  toward  the  event  helped  him  become  “The  Xi  Man”  and  the  overall  winner  of  the  compe77on!
