The mission of Metroparks of the Toledo Area is to conserve the region’s natural resources by creating, developing, improving, protecting, and promoting clean, safe, and natural parks and open spaces for the benefit, enjoyment, education, and general welfare of the public.

Hours of OperationAll Metroparks open daily, 7 a.m. until dark. Admission: Free. Other hours and fees apply to specific attractions.

ProgramsMetroparks programs and activities encompass a wide variety of interests related to the park district’s purpose. Programs are open to everyone. Children must be accompanied by adults unless noted as a drop-off program.

Metroparks TrailsTrails in each of the Metroparks offer a variety of distances and experiences, from winding dirt paths through the woods and prairies, to hard-surface all-purpose trails suitable for bicycling and skating. Oak Openings Preserve also has horse trails.

NEW! History Camp (Ages 8 to 12)Metroparks is rich in natural resources and unique species. Here is your chance to see how nature has helped to write history from the ground up. Campers will get to explore the canal at Providence with trips to the Isaac Ludwig Mill, Side Cut locks and other local historical destinations. Throughout the week, campers will learn the skills necessary to survive in historic times and discover how natural history and human history have collided throughout time. Bring a lunch and reusable water bottle. Art of Nature Camp (Ages 8 to 14)Nature is the greatest artist of all. At this special camp, the campers will use natural materials and nature as inspiration to create works of art. Campers’ appreciation and understanding of nature is sure to evolve during a week exploring art’s connection to the environment. Each day features new mediums, such as clay, paint and photography. A great experience for children who enjoy art, nature, history and the outdoors. Wild-wood Preserve is home-base with exciting trips planned. Bring a lunch and reusable water bottle.

Outdoor Adventure ExpoExperience Metroparks outdoor skills activi-ties with trained instructors in a festival setting. Participate in ‘Try It’ sessions on fishing, fire building, canoeing, kayaking, camping, archery and much more. MetroBarksIt’s a day for dogs and their people. MetroBarks. Now in its 12th year, the annual festival has entertainment, food, rescue/adoption groups and vendor booths. New this year: the Flying Houndz Frizbee Trick Dog Show, a high-energy, action-packed, interactive presentation. You won’t want to miss these superstars performing acrobatic Frisbee-catching stunts, novel dog tricks - and even some doggy dancing. Bring your dog for some tail-waggin fun. NEW! Great American Backyard CampoutIn celebration of the Great American Backyard Campout weekend, Metroparks is opening Side Cut and Pearson Metroparks for overnight camping for one night only. Campers at Pearson will enjoy free pedal boats and free access to fishing equipment (fishing license required for those 16 and older). Campers at Side Cut will enjoy free kayaking and canoeing on Silver Lake using Metroparks boats and equipment. The National Wildlife Federation will donate money to wildlife conservation for every camper that participates in the Great American Bac-kyard Campout, so your participation can help save wildlife. Camping is free, but reservations are requi-red. Reserve your spot early, as space is limited.Free | Reservations

Wildwood Manor HouseThe stunning Georgian Colonial-style mansion at Wildwood Preserve stands as one of Toledo’s architectural icons. Enjoy free guided or self-guided tours every weekend at this 32,000-square-foot, Depression-era home and learn about the region’s rich history. Plan some extra time to visit the rare Ellen Biddle Shipman garden, Frank Stranahan exhibit and the Manor House library. Open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, April 5 through June 30, noon to 5 p.m. The Manor House will be closed the first Thursday and Friday of each month.Free. Oak Grove SchoolMeet a 19th century schoolmarm and experience how much education has changed in the past 100 years. The Canal ExperienceMake a reservation to float back to 1876 aboard a replica canal boat at The Canal Experience at Providence Metropark. This is the only site in Ohio where mules still pull a boat through an original 19th century lock. Springtime Geocache Egg HuntYou’ve never hunted eggs like this before. Families and adults are invited to bring GPS units to the Buehner Center to start the hunt for plastic eggs hidden in the park. Answer all of the eggs’ questions to claim a prize (a springtime treat). Metroparks has a limited number of GPS units to loan on a first come, first serve basis (must leave driver’s license to borrow). For GPS instruction, please arrive 30 minutes prior to the program start time. Fee is per person ages five and up, free for ages four and under (Children four and under do not need to register). Oak Openings Blue Week: All about BatsA special evening for all ages to meet Nature’s Nursery’s education bats. Oak Openings Blue Week: Blue Bird HikeHit the trail to explore various bird habitats at Oak Openings Preserve. Meet at the edge of the sand dunes, just south of the Wabash-Cannonball Trail with parking along the east side of Girdham Road. Walk along the edge of the fence areas to look for Eastern blue birds, summer tanagers, Lark sparrows, blue grosbeaks, yellow-throated vireos and many other species. Across the road, in the oak savanna, we will search for red-headed woodpeckers, indigo buntings and other surprises.
