From the Desk of...

President’s Report

Executive Director’s Report

“Spring has sprung the grass is riz I wonder where the boidies is!” I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Volunteers and Board of Directors of G50+. We have had a very exciting year with many reasons to celebrate. This spring we are inviting Jack Surch to our Volunteer appreciation lunch on April 17, 2018. I hope to see you all there so we can thank you personally. As you may have heard our new home is under renovations and Tim Tierney is coming to the Annual Meeting on June 12th to fill us in on the progress and expected finish date. We have started a Friday Craft group from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. We are hoping that this group will donate arts and crafts for the Bazaar in November. If you enjoy knitting, crocheting, sewing or another craft and would like to join a social group where we can learn and share together, please stop by on Fridays and introduce yourself. Hope to see you at the Spring Tea & Craft sale on Saturday May 12th.

Carol Nicholson

Spring has finally sprung!! Thank you for your patience with the sharing of the Crush space. The City of Ottawa programs and staff have been moved from the Pat Clark Centre (formerly the Cyrville Centre) to allow for the renovation for our new home. Construction for our long awaited new home is underway with a completion date of October/November. Tim Tierney will be sharing the Pat Clark renovations with us at the Annual Meeting on June 12, 2018! Be sure to mark your calendars. It always amazes me, seniors helping seniors, stepping up to the plate to fill a leadership position, stepping outside the box to learn something new, doing the right thing at the right time even though no one is watching, that is the spirit and culture here at G50+ Centre, member/volunteers taking on duties in the true spirit of Volunteering! My hats off to you all. April 17th is the Volunteer Appreciation Lunch and Dance with Jack Surch. All registered volunteers are invited for free! Tickets for guests are $10.00. If you volunteer and have not yet registered in My Senior Centre, please visit Reception and we will register you immediately. Please remember to input all volunteer hours in the system, they can be added in one lump sum. We are hosting a Spring Tea & craft sale on Saturday May 12 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm. This is a fundraiser, the Centre will receive 20% of the total sales and all proceeds from the kitchen. If you are a baker, we need you! Your famous baking will be needed for the tea plates! Watch for posters to volunteer your time and baked goods. Your Annual Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday June 12, 2018 at 10:00 am. Please plan to attend and hear about how the board of directors has been working on your behalf. It is important for every member to attend. If you cannot make it to the meeting you can give another member your vote by Proxy. Members can have a maximum of three proxy votes. Please visit Reception for a Proxy Form and instructions.

We heard your suggestions… Starting in April we will be making a small change to the Thursday Lunch. Full meals ($8) will be sold at the front register while supplies last. Keep your receipt as proof of purchase. Friends can sit together and be called up to the serving window as a table group. Only people with proof of purchase register receipts will be served an entree. Soup and Sandwiches can be purchased at the window. Meals will be sold on Thursday morning on a first come first serve basis.

Sharon Oatway

“Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you have in mind.”
