1000 Books Before Kindergarten Don’t forget to join Prairie Trails Public Library’s newest reading program: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten! Regis-tration is open, just bring your Prairie Trails Library card to the Youth Services Desk to register and to receive more information. An adult may register up to 3 children on one adult library card.

Contest: Name Our Crayons Have you ever picked a color from the crayon box, looked to see what it’s called, and found… Wild Strawberry or Macaroni and Cheese or Granny Smith Apple? Such fun names for crayons! So we thought we’d turn over the crea-tivity to YOU to come name our Youth Services crayons! See the colors and give them a super cool name. At the end of the month, we’ll draw winners and you might just win a prize! See the Youth Services desk for more infor-mation. Contest open to children birth – 6

th grade.

Storytimes Storytimes will be in session for six weeks, beginning the week of Monday, March 20

th and ending the week of

Monday, April 24th

. Registering for a storytime is a com-mitment to attend all six weeks of the session.

Baby Bounce Thursdays at 10am Ages: 0-17 months with a parent or caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes Enjoy music, nursery rhymes, and stories with your baby as we promote early literacy in our littlest learners. There will also be time for exploration and play while the babies (and grown-ups) get to know one another.

Toddler Time Tuesdays at 10am Ages: 18 – 36 months with a parent or caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes This interactive storytime will feature short stories, finger plays, action rhymes and songs! Toddlers will develop social interaction with others and help encourage lan-guage skills. Caregiver is strongly encouraged to partici-pate with child.

Music, Movement, & Stories Wednesdays at 10am Ages: 3-5 years (not yet in Kindergarten), Children at-tend independently Limit: 20 Length: 40 minutes In this preschool storytime, children will have fun with en-gaging books, songs, and activities as they build their early literacy skills. We recommend that children attend the Mu-sic, Movement & Stories (M&MS) program alone, so they can develop the independence necessary for Kindergar-ten.

After School Club Wednesdays at 4pm Grades: K – 2nd Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes Children in grades K-2 are invited to join us in an after school club where they will read some great stories, partic-ipate in projects, crafts, and games.

To register you must have a Prairie Trails Public Library card. You can register online or in person; however, we do not register over the phone. An adult can register up to three children on one adult library card in person only.

library card must be used. Make sure you read all information as you register and follow the age and grade restrictions for programs.

Youth Events Registration is required for the following youth events unless otherwise noted.

Prairie Trails Public Library Logo Contest We need your help designing a library logo. We are looking for a logo that represents us. We are the heart of

the community. We provide books, media materials, programming, and internet access.

Eligibility: This contest is open to all High School Age Students who reside within the Prairie Trails Public Library

District and have a Prairie Trails Public Library card in good standing.

Contest Period: This contest runs from February 15, 2017-March 31, 2017

Family Jam Tales

Every Monday at 6:30pm AND Every Thursday at 11am Children of all ages and their families Length: 30 minutes No registration is required for this storytime, but space is limited. Join us for a storytime designed for the whole family. A wide variety of stories, music, and more will be shared.

LEGO Zone Saturday, March 4th at 11am Ages: 3-12 years Length: 45 minutes No registration is required for this event, but space is limited.

Imagine, create, and BUILD! Join us for LEGO fun. We provide the Legos, and you provide the imagination. All ma-terials must stay at the library, so parents bring a camera to capture your child’s creations. Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Lion and Lamb Story and Craft Tuesday, March 7th at 10am Ages: 3-5 (not yet in Kindergarten) Limit: 20 Length: 40 minutes You may have heard the phrase, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Come share a story and songs about these two unlikely animal friends. We will also make a royal, wooly craft!

Life-Sized Battleship Thursday, March 9th at 6:30pm Grades: 3rd – 6th Length: 1 hour No registration is required for this event, but space is lim-ited. D-4..hit..you sank my destroyer! We’ll play a couple games of life-size battleship, eat snacks, and have lots of fun.

Beauty and the Beast Celebration Saturday, March 11th at 11am Children of all ages and their families Length: 45 minutes We invite you to Be Our Guest! Come and celebrate the

release of the new Disney movie. There will be plenty of

singing, dancing, and fun activities for beauties and beasts

of all ages. Costumes are optional.

Sensory Storytime: Silly Monsters Monday, March 13th at 11am Ages: 3-6 with a parent or caregiver Limit: 10 Length: 30 minutes Sensory Storytime is an interactive program that can be enjoyed by all children, but it is especially designed for chil-dren with sensory integration challenges. If your child has difficulty sitting through a traditional storytime, this program of stories, songs, and activities may be just what you’re looking for. Please let us know at registration if you need a “Visual Guide” to better prepare your child for the program or if there are any additional accommodations your child may need.

Guinness World Records Tuesday, March 14th at 4pm Grades: 3rd – 6th Limit: 25 Length: 45 minutes Join us as we explore some Guinness World Records! Not only will we discuss and examine some of the records (just how long is the world’s longest bat wingspan?), but we’ll even try and break some of the records ourselves!

Yoga for Toddlers Wednesday, March 15th at 10am Ages: 18-36 months with a parent or caregiver (but fam-ilies are welcome!) Limit: 20 Length: 30 minutes This program is not your typical yoga class at the gym. We’ll sing songs, take an imaginary trip to the zoo, and learn some yoga poses. It’ll be a great opportunity to bond with your little one, to help channel his/her energy, and of course, to have fun!

Leprechaun Hunt Wednesday, March 15th at 4pm Ages: 3-12 Limit: 20 Length: 30 minutes Did you know there are leprechauns hiding in the library? Join us as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with stories about the wee folk. Then we will search the library shelves for the little men in green!

Family Game Night Thursday, March 16th at 6:30pm Children of all ages and their families Length: 1 hour No registration is required for this event, but space is lim-ited. Have some family fun playing together with the library’s collection of board games such as Guess Who, Sorry, Trouble, Twister, Jenga, Yatzee, Clue and more! Any child age 8 and under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Messy Masterpieces Saturday, March 18th at 11am Ages: 3-12 Limit: 30 Length: 1 hour Drop in for a bit of art exploration and some intentional, messy fun! You’ll create cool artwork to take home from our vast array of art supplies. A good rule of thumb, when working with art that can get messy, it is best to wear old clothes.

C2: Comics & Crafts Tuesday, March 21st at 6:30pm Grades: 4th and up (including teens through 12th grade) Limit: 15 Length: 1 hour Do you like reading comics and graphic novels? Do you love Raina Telgemeier, Jarrett J. Krosoczka, and Jennifer Holm? Maybe you can’t get enough Batman or Avengers? Then this new book club is for you! Each month we’ll dis-cuss a different graphic novel and do a craft to compliment the book. BONUS: when you register for the program you will receive your very own copy of the book to KEEP! This month’s book is El Deafo by Cece Bell.

Minecraft Wednesday, March 22nd at 6:30pm Grades: 2nd – 5th Limit: 25 Length: 1 hour Calling all Minecraft fans! Want to show off your skills? Are you ready to meet our Mine-craft challenges? Get ready to build, create, and explore the wide world of Minecraft.

We’ll have to work together to strategically defeat all of the zombies, spiders, and skeletons!

Community Superheroes: Fireman Saturday, March 25th at 11am Ages: Birth – 6th Grade Length: 30 minutes No registration is required for this event, but space is lim-ited. Join us for this series that will introduce Burbank Communi-ty Helpers to our children and their families. Each program will feature a different person working for us in the commu-nity such as a police officer, fire fighter, or doctor. After sharing some stories about each profession, we will have an opportunity to listen to the community superhero talk about what they do on their job and answer any questions you might have. This Saturday will feature a local fireman! Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Silent Library Tuesday, March 28th at 6:30pm Grades: 4th and up (including teens through 12th grade) Length: 1 hour You’ll be completing tasks as a group, but the catch is you have to be silent! The tasks are extremely silly which makes not being able to laugh that much harder. Lots of (silent) fun will be had! ***Registration for April Youth events will begin

Teen Advisory Board Tuesday, March 7th at 7pm-8pm Need to earn service hours? Join our Teen Advisory Board! This is a great opportunity for you to earn hours AND take part in teen services at the library. At each monthly meeting you can share your thoughts and ideas on future teen programming and suggest titles to pur-chase for the collections.

Teen String Art Tuesday, March 14th at 7pm Join us for this hands on program where every teen will leave with a work of art crafted out of string! Let your creativity guide you and make something abstract or spell out a word or name meaningful to you. All materi-als will be provided.

Manga Monday Monday, March 27th at 7:30pm Like to read or create Manga, watch Anime, or obsessed with Cosplay? Then this is the program for you! We’ll discussing, watching, and enjoying all things Manga and Anime. Snacks will be served! Join us as we meet on the last Monday of every month.

COMPUTER CLASSES

Introduction to Email Thursday, March 2nd at 2pm

This program is limited to 10 PTPLD par-ticipants. Patrons may register up to one guest.

If you’re interested in learning which email service is right for you, then sign up for this computer class! Yahoo!, Gmail, and Outlook will be discussed as well as how to do the following: set up an account, compose and reply to emails, and navigate your inbox.

Internet Safety Thursday, March 16th at 2pm

No PTPLD library card required to register. Security specialist Victor Chinnaswamy will provide best practices for internet safety. Learn how to lower the risk of having your accounts hacked and how to keep your infor-mation protected.

Designing Your Home Landscape Tuesday, March 14th at 7pm

No PTPLD library card re-quired to register. Give the front of your home some refreshing curb appeal and redesign your backyard more attractively and effi-ciently using the clever ideas that you will learn at this lecture! Join landscape designer Kathleen Obirek as she shows you how to undo, redo, and up-do your home landscape! The Gardener’s Idea Book will be given away to attendees—One per family.

A Grateful Veteran Tuesday, March 28th at 7pm

No PTPLD library card required to register

Bosnian War veteran Tom Kens shares how life onboard the USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier forged his atti-tude of gratitude toward veterans.

The tasks are extremely silly which makes not being able to laugh that much harder. Lots of (silent) fun will be had!

March Madness Teens when you come into the library during the month of March, make sure you vote for your favorite books in the March Madness competition. There are three heats of vot-ing, so make sure you come every week to vote. The win-ning book will be announced at the end of the month. Will your favorite book make it to the final? Only if you vote for it! All teens will be entered into a raffle each time they vote.

Teen Volunteers Are you interested in volunteering at the library? Stop by the Youth Services Desk for more information and pick up a Teen Volunteer Application.

Adult Coloring Night Monday, March 13th at 7pm This program is limited to 20 PTPLD participants. Patrons may register up to 2 guests. Coloring is a relaxing activity that adults can enjoy, too. Come join us for an evening of coloring and conversa-tion. We provide the coloring pages, colored pencils, and peaceful environment. You sit back, relax, and color!

Attracting Birds and Butterflies to Your Backyard Garden Thursday, March 23rd at 7pm No PTPLD library card required to register. Master Gardner Marian Thill provides tips and tricks for using native plantings to attract birds and butterflies to small landscapes. Come learn how to transform your ordinary backyard into a dynamic wildlife haven!

Wild Prairie Book Club

Butterflies: A Painting Workshop Tuesday, March 7th at 7pm This program is limited to 30 PTPLD participants. Patrons may register up to 2 guests. Beginners welcome! Celebrate the season and express your creativity with this fun painting workshop. First you'll draw a butterfly on watercolor paper from photo reference. Then learn to use watercolor pencils under artist Christine Thornton’s guidance to add vibrant color to your painting.
