Biology: planted Spring growth from crowns and nodes Although plants can be killed by removing only the root crown, for this study we were interested in the weight of roots produced after one and two years growth on the farm. A one-meter diameter hole was dug around the root crown and all root material was harvested and brought to the laboratory.

Can it bestopped? YES!Both onthe Universityof DelawareFarm,where35plantswere grownfor two years and allowed to rootatnodes, and atmyparentshome(withthehelpoffellow kudzuresearcherHeatherCoiner, PhD), kudzu hasbeeneradicatedbyremovingrootcrowns.Importantly, areaswhere kudzuhas beeneliminatedandsoilhasbeendisturbedaresubject toinvasionby other aggressive or alienspecies.Integratedweedmanagementpracticesthatcombinephysicalremoval, judiciousherbicideapplicationsand revegetation techniques canbe used to restore native plantcommunities(Lakeetal.2013).
