����£ Our Sloatsburg kids deserve access to an affordable summer program! With no Ramapo Mini Camp scheduled at Sloatsburg Elementary School this year, we are providing the option of an alternative experience.
Midweek Madness, a camp-like opportunity for kids K-5, will feature weekly guest performers plus indoor/outdoor activities. To pay for counselors and provide these events and activities,
July 2 -August 8
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 10am to 1pm
the cost for Midweek Madness will be $100 per child. This fee will cover all expenses for 6 sweeks of Midweek Madness. The progam is scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 1 Oam through 1 pm, from July 2 through August 8. Please register in person at the Library by Friday, April 5, 2019. There is a minimum of 30 participants needed to cost-effectively schedule Midweek Madness, so register early! Sloatsburg residents only.

Before the New York Thruway opened in the 1950s, Route 17 through Sloatsburg was the main road from the resorts in the Catskills to New York City. During Prohibition (1919 -1933), Route 17 was also a popular route for gangsters operating illicit alcohol stills in the Ramapo Mountains. Local legend/police chief "Teeter" Bill Conklin (in a 1977 Rockland County Times article) recalled giving speeding tickets to mob legends Dutch Schultz and Jack "Legs" Diamond. Teeter Bill also gave a ticket to a lower-tier mobster, "Stinky" Klein, who he said was "whacked" and fished out of the Hudson River a few weeks later with the traffic ticket still in his pocket.
