Version 3.4
Release Date: May 2, 2014
Release Client Version: 3.4.0
Release Overview
This release of SpringCM Scan focuses on aligning with the SpringCM web client user interface updates, making it easier to find an upload folder, and providing more control over how blank pages are handled. Administrators are encouraged to explore new and enhanced features. Feel free to contact SpringCM Support ([email protected]) if you have questions on how to put these features to work.
Released Detail
SpringCM Scan is typically used in cases where paper based documents need to be converted to electronic content, indexed and stored in SpringCM. Typical documents could be documents with relevant business data such as invoices, checks, purchase orders, and documents that are similar. With Scan, a user can conduct all of these tasks without accessing the SpringCM web client.
The following enhancements have been introduced with this version of the client:
Refreshed user interface
Ability to search for an upload folder
Upload folder stickiness
Blank page improvements Print to SpringCM is not supported in Windows 8. Print to SpringCM uses the Microsoft print function to create a PDF version of your document and save it in SpringCM.
UI Refresh
The SpringCM Web Client has been updated to provide a cleaner and more contemporary look and feel. These changes largely focus on the following areas:
The menu bar has been updated with new colors
The menu bar hover over item colors have changed
Tool Bar items have new icons and new colors
The color and style of buttons have been updated on all pages
Folder selection has been updated with new selection items.

Folder search
Many customers have deep folder structures and it can be cumbersome and time consuming to navigate down the folder tree to the targeted upload folder. This release makes it easier and quicker to find and select the upload folder. After uploading a document, you can either browser the folder tree or search for a folder in SpringCM. To search for a folder, perform the following steps:
Upload a document
Enter search criteria
Hit enter or click on the magnifying glass to start the search.
Once search results have been retrieved, hovering over any of the search results will display the full path to the folder.
Select the folder you wish to upload to
SpringCM Scan 3.4 for Windows Release Notes © 2014 SpringCMSM
Upload folder stickiness
After a folder has been selected for upload, it will remain set until you change to another upload folder. This has replaced the ability to set a default folder.
Blank page improvements
More refinements have been made to better control how blank pages are handled by the Scan app. These changes include the ability to:
Separate and remove the blank page: The blank page can be removed on separation by selecting “At blank page” and “Remove blank page”.
Separate and keep the blank page: The blank page can be kept on separation by selecting “At blank page” and de-selecting “Remove blank page”.
Remove the blank page: Now, you can remove the blank page without separating by selecting “Do not separate” and remove blank page.
Other Enhancements
Checking for scanners is now performed in the background.
Fixes
ID Resolved Issue
SCAN-383 Fixed an issue where selecting scanner settings while scanning caused a crash.
SCAN-384 Fixed an issue where uploading multiple items returned an unexpected error.
SCAN-385 Fixed an issue where moving all pages from a document to another document caused an unexpected error.
SCAN-396 Fixed an issue where upgrading from a previous version of Scan and changing from “just me” to “everyone” caused issues trying to launch the application.
Known Issues
Known Issue
Changing the install type from “just me” to “Everyone” on upgrade will show two programs with different versions that can be uninstalled.
Moving all pages of a document to another document may cause an unhandled exception
If the application is revoked while the user is on the document, an unhandled exception may occur.
Network scanners that are not connected to the application may show as connected even though they are not because Windows may show the scanner as connected.
When selecting the Scanner Preference pages, it may take several minutes to complete this action depending on the number of scanners connected to the computer.
When utilizing a TWAIN driver, pop up messages direct from the driver may occur in the setup
SpringCM Scan 3.4 for Windows Release Notes © 2014 SpringCMSM
and configuration of the Scanner or when Scanning.
If an Attribute Group Name includes an apostrophe (‘), then an unexpected error will occur. This can be remedied by removing the apostrophe.
Depending on the quality of the Scan, setting Post scanning options to deskew or black border removal can worsen the quality of the scan. When this occurs, please disable these options and try to scan the document again.
TWAIN based scanners may not always recognize custom page sizes and as a result will scan in the default page size. If you set the app to Auto, then the scanner should be able to detect the right page size.
If the user starts to scan a document and while scanning navigates to the Scanners settings page, the scan will be interrupted.
If the user is scanning in detailed logging mode, adds a local file, and then starts to Scan, the application will crash.
If the user has scanned two or more documents, sets a date field on a document that is not today, navigates to another document, and then switches back to the original document, the date will be set as today’s date on the original document.

Release Date: June 14, 2013
Release Client Version: 3.3.19
Release Overview
This release of SpringCM Scan is focused on enabling customers to take advantage of prior hardware purchases by extending the Scan application to also support TWAIN enabled scanners. With this release, both WIA and TWAIN based scanners accessible to the computer are supported.
TWAIN driver based Scanners
Post scanning Image Manipulation
Page separation options
TWAIN Support
SpringCM Scan has been updated to support TWAIN enabled scanners. Capabilities include:
Recognizing the scanner if connected via the network or USB
Configuring preferences for the Automatic Document Feeder Resolution, the Automatic Document Feeder Page Size, the Flatbed Resolution, the Color Mode or the Scan Mode. These configurations represent what the scanner will utilize when completing a scan.
Scanning documents with the aforementioned configurations.
If a scanner supports TWAIN and WIA, then either can be used when scanning documents into SpringCM Scan. The image generated by the document may be slightly different when scanning from the same scanning when switching from TWAIN to WIA and vice versa.
Post Scanning Image processing
With this release, the scan operator can now enable a set of post scanning images that will improve the overall image quality of the document prior to upload to SpringCM.
Deskew: Enabling this option will straighten the document if it is slanting too far in one
direction or is misaligned. The app will try to de deskew an image by about 15 degrees. Deskewing can improve OCR, barcode detection, or just the overall readability of the image.
Despeckle: Enabling this option will remove speckles/noise (extra pixels) from the
image. It performs a 3 x 3 despeckle filter and works as a noise removal filter for Salt and Pepper noise (randomly occurring white and black pixels) or random dots around a document. Selecting despeckle will remove black noise pixels from white backgrounds and vice versa. Despeckling does not provide significant value for color images.
Black Border Removal: Enabling this option will remove a black border surrounding
SpringCM Scan 3.4 for Windows Release Notes © 2014 SpringCMSM
the document. The way it does this is detecting margins consisting of black color around and image and sets these values to white. It uses a confidence parameter where if what it detects is greater than what is configured, it will set the value to blank. When setting the Confidence value if the value is set as 100, then it looks for only lines that are pure black borders. When setting the Confidence value to 0, it looks for all lines that have at least 1 black pixel. The image dimensions are kept exactly the same.
Page Separation
New page separation options allow the Scan operator to be more productive by allowing the application to automatically create document at logical breaks in a scanned set of pages. Based on settings, the application will detect where new documents need to be generated in the scanning stream and automatically create new documents. Options include:
Do not separate: If this option is selected, then when the user selects Scan, then all
pages that are scanned will be treated as a single document Separate every page: Selecting this option allows the user to define how many pages
constitute a document. The application will create a new every time it hits the configured value.
Separate at each blank page: Whenever the application detects a blank page, a new document will be created. You also have the option of maintaining the blank page or discarding it. If the blank page is discarded, it will not be included in any document.
o The default setting is 4, which equates to a 99.4% of the page containing blank pixels.
o Setting to 10 equates to a page that equates to 100% of the page containing blank pixels.
o Each increment to the left or right moves the percentage by 1/10th of a percent. o Slider values map to the following percentage
1 equates to 99.1%
2 equates to 99.2%
3 equates to 99.3%
4 equates to 99.4% (Default) 5 equates to 99.5%
6 equates to 99.6%
7 equates to 99.7%
8 equates to 99.8%
9 equates to 99.9%
10 equates to 100%
