“A Resident Owned & Directed Community”
Dan’s $.02 for March, 2020: These last few months in our community have been a sad time for some of our residents. Our hearts go out to them, their loved ones, friends and neighbors. I want them to know that our community is here for them, and that we are more than a community of neighbors, we are a “family of neighbors”.
I would also like to welcome our new member-residents to Springlake Community Incorporated and invite you to get to know your neighbors and to become involved in your community.
Everyone is welcome to attend the monthly third-Thursday-at-7PM Board of Directors meetings, potlucks and other community activities. For activities, please check the monthly Scoop newsletter, the 5 outdoor bulletin boards next to the mail boxes, the window reader-board across from the office and the new electronic event calendar in the Lobby of Fred Winter Hall.
The electronic event calendar project is a reminder of what our community is all about: Managers Jamie and Samantha donated the TV, Bob Hemmerling built the wood enclosure for the TV and the continuous loop of community pictures were taken by Scoop editor Ken Corliss.
Update: approximately two months from now, the city of Scappoose will be in the process of re-placing the Springlake sewer pump station. There will be some construction involved but this should not disrupt any service—stay tuned. And thanks to everyone for heeding the requests for not placing garbage in the sewer system.
Happy almost spring. Dan

Money Matters
By now you all should have re-ceived your: SCI YEAR END STATEMENT, APPROVED 2020 BUDGET, and you should have gotten a TREASURER’S statement telling you there will NOT be any changes to your monthly fees for 2020. (Oooooops!!! That mes-sage was inadvertently left out of the packet.)
The SCI BOD AND FINANCE COMMITTEE sees no need to make any changes to our monthly fees at this time. That being said, how many of you had the “experience” of not being able to pay your monthly fees, with the new program CMI incorporated? Hopefully All is well and good by now. If you were sent a notice charging you a late fee for December or January let me know. I will get the charge removed.
BUT, many financially good things are happening, two of our “Grandfathered” renters homes have sold, and we will be receiving the $16K membership fee on both of them very soon.
Five “Springlakers” attended the CMI LAW FORUM at the Portland MAC club this month. The two classes dealt with Service Animals and people with Disabilities. Each speaker explained each, in terms we could all re-late to. I have talked with Pres. Dan about having the speakers come to Springlake and repeat the same clas-ses to those of you that are interested, at a TOWN HALL meeting. Each class is approximately one hour.
I was visiting my daughter last night when I asked if I could borrow a newspaper.
“This is the 21st century” she said. “We don’t waste money on newspapers.
Here, use my iPad.” I can tell you this… that fly never
knew what hit him !…. Have a GOOD DAY
Dennis

Hello neighbors! No recipe this month cause I have been thinking about something more fun, and experimental! This morning I treated myself to a deli-cious breakfast that included Sunnyside up eggs over home fried taters. YUM YUM! Not too unusual, I know, but what about other good food combos that are sensual to your taste buds but might turn the stomachs of your friends? LOL! Growing up I loved sweetened sour cream and sliced bananas. As an older adult I discovered sliced bana-nas and cottage cheese. What about banana and peanut butter sandwiches? My kids grew up on applesauce and peanut butter toast. Another fam fav was a mix-ture of cottage cheese, mayo, veg-gie chicken on toasted English muffins then put under the broiler until bubbly. That still makes my mouth water. Well, you get the idea. I’m sure all of you have better and quirkier favorites than mine. I’m willing to try ALMOST anything you have on your plate but never ever ask me to try Brussels sprouts by themselves or combined with anything! Happy fun eating!!
Leah

From the Office
Last year we had 6 new additions to our Springlake family on the north pond. This year we have a pair of geese that seem to be looking around for a spot to nest again. That is always fun to watch, photograph and be a part of. Maybe this year it will happen again, we hope so. So let’s all sing “My heart goes where the wild goose goes”. I will be a looking!
PET WASTE PLEASE: When walking your dog (s) around the neigh-borhood, carry a plastic bag with you and please be courteous and pick up after your pet. Rules and regu-lations as well as the city rules state that residents must clean up immediately after their dog (s) on any premises. Not only is it a rule, it can also be a major health issue to the neighborhood. Trash cans and poo bags are located around Springlake areas for proper disposal. Please - Be responsible for your pets’ cleanup.
FRIDAY DEBRIS PICK-UP BEGINS IN MARCH Friday free debris pick-up begins in March.
