1. INTRODUCTION

Our Company is proud to introduce the product AC Energy Saver with Remote Monitoring

and Control

This system is used to monitor and control AC by Switching AC ON/OFF based on preset

conditions (time and temperature) or impromptuneeds

Consumption data is collected wirelessly and stored in a server. Thus, monitor and control

can be done from a remote location with Internet access to the server, leading to energy

conservation

Along with the AC energy consumption, other parameters like Voltage, Current, Power etc.

are recorded, helping to understand usage pattern, performance and condition of ACs.

Time and Temperature based automatic control of AC operations available through quick

and easy settings.

2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

2.1 Features

Collect consumption data automatically on a preset interval wirelessly

Control AC ON/OFF by logging on to the server with valid user credentials

Up to three time intervals and temperature ranges can beset.

Based on that interval and range,AC is switched ON/OFF automatically based on that

setting.

Manual override to the above conditions can be done from the web page

Monitor working and performance of AC remotely with the electrical parameters collected

periodically

The product contains the following components to carry out the tasks mentioned above

2.2 Single phase smart meter with Zigbee(RF)

The smart meter shipped as part of this system measures and records

o Energy consumption

o Instantaneous voltage

o Current

o Power Factor

o Active, Reactive and Apparent power

o Maximum Demand.

o Data can be collected in 2ways

o Wired – RS485

o Wireless – Zigbee(RF)

Data collected using Zigbee or RS485 (MODBUS Compatibility) is sent to a data concentrator unit (DCU)

which will have Zigbee Coordinator or RS485 converter and GPRS Modem, which in turn send sitto

cloud storage.

2.3 Data Concentrator Unit with Controller (DCU / RCS)

This unit control the relays whenever a command comes from the server (triggered by the

User from a Server / Mobile) to control AC ON/OFF operation.

It also shows the status of load in ON/OFF conditions. Hence one can understand for how

long the load was ON/OFF.

Zigbee Coordinator or RS485 converter will be in-built to receive data from the nodes.

(Single phase or three phase ACUnits)

2.4 GPRS Unit

This unit collects the consumption data from Utility meter and load status from RCS and

send sitto server.

It receives command from server to switch ON/OFF the AC and passesit on to the RCS unit.

2.5 MCB

This is provided to enable AC ON/OFF in Automatic (Server Controlled) mode and Manual

mode

When MCB is OFF, the system works automatically within the set timings and can be

controlled through server.

When MCB is ON, the system works manually with only collecting and monitoring of

electrical parameters and without any remote control from server

3. GPRS COMMUNICATION

4.1 General:

This unit collects specified parameters from other connected device using RS485 / RS232

communication or Zigbee communication,

All the values collected are transferred to cloud server using in-built GPRS modem

Soft Keys are provided to stop, scroll, edit and to view the parameters

Real Time Clock with battery backup is used for time keeping and has a calendar of 100

years

External antenna is provided to increase signal strength where network strength is low

Reset key is provided to refresh the unit when network failure occurs

GPRS modem operates with 12V DC and it is connected internally

4.2 Modem Description:

SPZ GPRS modem is a cellular terminal device that provides data transfer function using

GPRS

Connected with high speed controller which performs faster dataexecution

It supports RS232 and RS485 communications ports that can quickly connect one device to

a mobile network, allowing you to connect to your existing serial devices with some basic

configuration.

It has been widely used on Machine to Machine fields, such as smart grid, industrial

automation, water supply, EB / DG monitoring, etc…

4.3 Modem Features:

Supports low power consumption mode, scheduled chip on/off feature, scheduled modem

on/off(optional),

Support several network modes

Supports RS232 / RS485/ Zigbee port that can connect directly to serial devices with

defined protocol

Automatically enters communication mode when powered

External reset can be done by operating it manually

Quad-band support: GSM 850 MHz, EGSM 900 MHz, DCS 1800 MHz and PCS 1900MHz

GPRS bit rate: 85.6 kb/s (max.), 53.6 kb/s (type) in down-link; 42.8 kb/s (max.), 26.8 kb/s

(type.) input-link

CS (Circuit Switched) Data calls are supported in transparent/non-transparent mode up to

9.6 kb/s

The network will automatically configure the number of time slots available for usage by the

module

External antenna provided to increase signal strength in case of poor signal strength from

the mobile network.

Data send / receive status can be viewed transparently using LCD

4.3 Keypad Features:

Keys on the front panel is used to set the below functions

Time

Date

Server IP address

Port Number

Password

Total number of meters connected(x)

Meter parameters (for all ‘x’ meters)

Meter ID

Starting address

Total Length

Press Esc. Key once the function set is completed, this allows viewing the parameters one

after the other automatically. If this is not done auto scroll will not happen.

4.4 Data Transfer

Once the Server Ip address and other details mentioned above are set, Data is sent from the

unit to a cloud server

This is with the help of GPRS (Data) enabled SIM card

Once connection is successfully established, the Web platform can be used for monitoring

and control of AC (accessed from Computer / Mobile with valid credentials)

5 .APPLICATION AND INTERFACE

6.1 Application

Once the unit and the server are setup, user can set

o Time interval for operation of the AC unit (say 9 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 5PM)

o Temperature range in which the AC will be OFF (say 23 to 25 degree Celsius)

Interval data is collected periodically and stored in the server.

This data gives us information about status, operation and performance of ACs and can be

monitored online (using computer/mobile)

Individual AC unit can be turned ON/OFF using the application online

Using such data

o AC Operation can be controlled based on Demand

o Performance of ACs (such as current consumption) can be analyze deffectively

o Life of ACs can be improved, evaluated effectively

6.2 User Interface

Below screenshot shows the web page (accessible from Computer / Mobile) with data

collected periodically (sample; actual implementation may vary based onsite)

Temperature range set and current values are displayed along with the status of AC is

displayed (Grey being OFF and Green being ON)

Status monitor and control can be done from the web page using computer /mobile
