The renewed square of Corazón de María is now open to all the residentsof Bilbao La Vieja once the redevelopment of this urban space hasconcluded. Thanks to the spaciousness and versatility of the differentspaces that have been developed, this square is set to become the hubof activity of the neighbourhood of Bilbao La Vieja.

The developed space has a surface area of 7130 square metres and modifications have been includedin the project to introduce improvements and suggestions collected during the citizen participationproject carried-out.
For three years, the square´s subsoil has undergone archaeological excavations that have revealedthe remains of a well-preserved 16th century Franciscan convent. Part of the ruins are visible fromsquare and the rest is underground and protected.
