From The Editors’ Desk…
Leadership of federation has taken up on his priority to make the
organization strong, result of which is that organizational activities are in full
swing. Three Zones namely Eastern Zone, North Central Zone and West
Zone have completed their first zonal Council meetings. Kudos to the
leadership of these Zones. Annual General Body meetings of Divisional
Associations are also going on. On an average, one divisional association is
conducting his annual general body meeting every week.
Indeed it is the need of hour that federation becomes a mighty
organization, since we are at a very crucial juncture. Government is
determined to hike the Foreign Direct Investment in insurance sector from
26% to 49% and wage revision negotiations have started and apart from that,
our long pending issue of restoration of NGI differed due to strike observed
on 18.02.2010 is not still resolved by the management. The last round of
negotiations in banking sector is not encouraging. Unions of bank employees
have come up with a vigorous agitation program. Therefore, there is no other
option except to get united under the banner of Federation of LIC Class-1
Officers Associations to clinch the best deal in Charter of demand and other
benefits of Class -1 Officers.
Friends, we are giving our best to the Corporation by performing our duties
in an excellent manner even after the close of office hours and on holidays. It
is our right to get a dignified treatment from management and our genuine
demands should be accepted without any delay.
I appeal to all the leaders of the federation to implement the decision
taken in 2nd
Secretariat meeting of All India Secretariat in Pune held on
15.09.2014 that all Divisional Associations should complete their annual
General Body Meeting latest by 31st October 2014 and collect annual
subscription for 2014-2015. Zonal Council Meetings of remaining 5 Zones
should also be completed before the end of this calendar year.
With profound regards, Ajay Tyagi (Editor)

President’s Message
The Second Secretariat Meeting held on 15.09.2014 at Pune took many decisions to settle our pending issues with the management and to gear up organizational activities. I am happy to see that Federation is on right track. We are interacting with the management from time to time and put forth the problems of officers effectively. Some of them are resolved and some are still pending.
I have full faith in the strength of officers and their faith in federation and
assure them that no issue will remain unresolved. Coming days are very crucial and we have to get a handsome charter
settled and I hope that every officer will out of fear and work with dignity under banner of Federation of LIC Class-1 Officers’ Association.
With Greeting,
Baburao Humraskar
President
Federation of LIC Class-1 Officers’ Association.

From the crucible...... General Secretary writes............
The 1st round of discussion on wage revision is over. To start with,
10.5% is a good beginning. Let us hope that we will get a better deal than last
time. Our organisation building activities are on the right track. 3 zones have
conducted zonal councils. 3 zones have fixed in December. Divisions are
conducting Annual General Body meetings. I am also trying to participate in
as many meetings as possible.
I have seen some exemplary leaders of the federation during my visit to
various parts of the country. Rajkot division was one such example and
another one is Behrampur. We have formed a formal unit in Yogakshema.
We are planning for a mega meeting on 24th November.
I have a dream which I want to share with you through this. Due to
various reasons we have lost our ground in some of the divisions. But all our
divisions must have an active unit by 31st March 2015. Let all of us try
together to achieve this. Dreams are not the one you see during your sleep.
Dreams are those which will not let you sleep till you realise them. Every big
achievement has started with a dream in some one's mind. SO, LET US
START THE WAY TO REALISE OUR THIS ONE DREAM. .
A DREAM WITHOUT ACTION IS LIKE A TORCH WITHOUT FIRE - USELESS

Activities at All India Level
Since our delegation met MD and ED on 17th June 2014, continuous follow up of our issues with
Management is being done.
GS sent an appreciation mail to the Chairman for his strong stand on listing LIC as suggested by
Mr.Uday Kotak. The need for restoration of NGI was highlighted in this also. An email was sent to
ED(OS) and ED (P&IR) reminding them the urgency to enhance leased accommodation and uniform
implementation of security of SOs and BOs. On 2nd July, he spoke to ED(P) on issues like initiation of
discussion on wage negotiation and need to restore NGI. Based on these talk we have sent one more
letter to ED making our stand very clear (copy is enclosed). The Govt. is yet to give guidelines for
starting wage revision and ED is keeping in touch with Ministry of Finance in this regard. We are
keeping in touch with other sister trade unions for the formation of Joint Forum for wage revision and
one more option for pension. Other than NOINO and BMS, all have responded positively. A joint
session to discuss future strategies will be held soon. The new Mediclaim scheme with modifications
came into effect from 01.07.2014.
A committee with Sri J.Arivazhagan (Chairman) and Sri M.S.A.L Gaya and Sri Dinesh Sharma as
members were constituted to review the constitution. The report will be submitted in the next
Secretariat meeting.
A letter was also given to the Executive Director for the early restoration of NGI with full details of
commitment made by our previous Chairman D.K. Mehrotra.
Federation authorized its Zonal/Divisional units to take decision on the participation in
demonstrations against hike of FDI in insurance sector .However no agitation program was designed
by us.
Federation has taken up the suicide case of Late Sri Ravishankar, ABM(S), Warangal Division and
wrote letter to Chairman that Harassment of Class-1 Officers is not bearable to the federation and
19.07.2014 gate meeting were done against the harassment of Class -1 Officers and memorandums
were submitted to Zonal Managers / Divisional In-charges. Federation has got overwhelming
response from all over the country.
Federation again met Executive director (Personnel) and Executive Director (Marketing) on 25th July
2014 and the following issues were discussed:
1) Pending issues like Leased accommodation, Educational Loan, Enhancement of Housing Loan
etc.We urged the management to expedite the decision making process.
2) Mediclaim: Restriction of room rent to Rs. 7500/- per day was taken up. Since some of the
charges like Doctor’s visit fees, etc. are linked proportionately to the room charges, this ceiling
has been fixed. However it shall be reviewed based on the experience.
3) In some of the benefits like mobile phone reimbursement, Meal coupon etc, there is a
disproportionate difference between various cadres. Hence we requested to rationalize the
anomaly.
4) Delay in Supplementary list of promotions: It shall be published shortly.
6
5) Anomalies in transfers of Engineers: It was brought to the notice of management that the
Engineers are being transferred illogically/ irrationally from last several years.
This was consistently being brought to the notice of Management on several earlier occasions.
However, this year also there has been no improvement. Therefore, urgent intervention of LIC
management is required to alleviate the ongoing untoward sufferings of the Engineers throughout.
The ED (P) was sympathetic and assured that he would look into the matter, favorably.
6) Delay in sanctioning of Car under scheme-VI, especially in South Central Zone: We requested
an urgent intervention of the management/ ED (P). The same also has been discussed with the
ED(Mktg.) along with other issues pertaining to Marketing Officials. It is assured that there
shall be an amicable solution at the earliest.
7) Wrong interpretation of LTC circular for domestic travel: The ED (P) has clarified that the
concession given in the cases of foreign tour shall be made applicable in domestic travel also.
8) Upward revision of additional gratuity and free Insurance and extension of Group Insurance
after retirement: ED (P) asked us to submit the representation in detail for their favorable
consideration.
9) Considering the retirement on last day of month for those born on 1st day of the month: After
favorable verdict by Supreme Court in M. D. Gupta v/s LIC of India, we requested for
considering the same for all the Employees. ED (P) asked us to submit the representation in
detail for their favorable consideration.
10) Re-fixation of Pension for retirees of the period from 1.8.1992 to 1.4.1993: Since SLP by the
LIC has been rejected by the Supreme Court, we urged for implementing the verdict of
Rajasthan High Court. The ED informed that the appropriate decision shall be taken soon in the
matter.
11) One more option for Pension: The management is pursuing the same vigorously with the Govt.
of India.
12) Wage Revision: The Management is waiting for the guidelines from the Govt. of India. The
Information Sharing session shall be conducted very soon.
13) Transfer Policy: The draft is under consideration of the management and the same shall be
discussed soon with our Federation.
14) Suicide of ABM(S) in Warangal DO: Our representation submitted to the ED (P) is
enclosed. We expressed our deep concernabout the shift in attitude of SDMs/ ZMs
from providing motivational environment to forceful/ harassment which deprives the
Officers their family and social life. We emphasized that the suitable corrective action
should be initiated by the Management failing which the Officers will be compelled to
resort to other means.
15) Restoration of NGI: This being rejected by earlier leadership of management, it has
become a complicated issue. Therefore, the ED informed that it requires some more time for
resolving.
7
16) The problems faced by the CRMs after the latest circular regarding NEFT Ratifications: This
was discussed and it is informed that the matter is being relookedfor alternatives.
17) Anomaly/ Deprivation of Gift card to Officers: We have submitted our letter on
this issue (copy is enclosed).
Leadership of federation met with the Chairman of Federation and appraised him the developments of
Federation since March 2014. It was mentioned the efforts we are taking for restoration of NGI, better
wage revision, one more option for pension etc. Leaders requested his immediate intervention in the
restoration of NGI. He has assured that he will extend all the support for the activities of the Federation.
We suggested him to send a letter to the Chairman of LIC for restoration of NGI, which he has agreed.
On the next day the letter prepared by us was signed and gave to us. (scanned copy enclosed). This will
be given to Chairman by our President on 16th August 2014. We also suggested a joint meeting of our
office bearers along with Oscarji in Yogakshema to have a detailed discussion with Chairman. He has
agreed to this proposal and asked us to arrange it either in Delhi or Mumbai. We have established
rapport with his office and will be in touch for further program. The Office Bearers introduced
themselves and appraised about the developments of our Federation since March 2014. We have
mentioned the efforts we are taking for restoration of NGI, better wage revision, one more option for
pension etc. We requested his immediate intervention in the restoration of NGI. He has assured that
he will extend all the support for the activities of the Federation. We suggested him to send a letter to
the Chairman of LIC for restoration of NGI, which he has agreed.
Our President , General Secretary and Secretary ( Organisation) also met Sri Anup Wadhawan, Joint
Secretary (FS) and discussed the following issues.
• Initiation of wage revision in LIC
• Wages and Perquisites to be in parity with ‘Navaratnas’
• Introduction of Grade Pay and Running Scales as in Central Government.
• Promotional Avenues.
• Pension & Health Care reforms
• One more option for pension
• LTC rules modifications
• Non-compliance of Central Govt. instructions in LIC like absence of promotion & transfer policy,
preference in posting for physically handicapped persons and those with differently abled children,
Sabbatical leave etc.
A representation was also given, with regard to wage revision. During the discussion, it was informed
that the Govt. has already given instructions to initiate discussion and send proposal to the Govt.
regarding wage revision. We stressed upon the need to reduce delay in promotional avenues and
necessity to introduce running scale to compensate delay and need for Grade Pay to make promotions
attractive. He was positive on this and assured that he will talk to LIC management on this. He also
agreed that there is a need to revise the existing pension and health care system in LIC. On one more
option for pension, he explained the difficulty of giving it to LIC employees alone as there will be
demand from others also. However we requested that a final opportunity should be given to all as only
a small section is left out. We convinced him that the LTC in LIC is entirely different from other PSUs
and we are eligible only for reimbursement of 2nd ac fare for 3000 km per person per block,
irrespective of the mode and destination. He advised us to give a detailed representation, so that it can
be considered favourably. We have also brought to his notice the non- compliance of central
8
government guidelines with regard to preference in posting for physically handicapped persons, parents
with differently abled children, sabbatical leave etc. even though there is clear instruction from
government. He has assured that it will be viewed seriously.

Letter written to Joint Secretary (Finance) on 12.08.2014
FEDERATION OF LIC CLASS-I OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION
President: Baburao Humraskar Chairman: Oscar Fernandes Gen. Secretary: S. Rajkumar
To 12.08.2014
Sri. Anup Wadhawan,
Jt.Secretary, Dept. of Financial Services
Ministry of Finance,
Govt. of India,
New Delhi.
Respected Sir,
Sub:-Wage revision due on 01-08-2012 in LIC of India
As you are aware the revision of wages takes place in LIC of India once in every five years.
The same is due from 1-08-2012. Even after 2 years, the LIC Management is yet to initiate
the talks on this important aspect. When we contacted the current leadership of LIC, it has
been informed that, LIC is yet to get instructions from the Government of India. The
situation is perplexing when we consider the fact that the Government has already initiated
the process of 7th pay commission which is due only on 1st April 2016. In this context we
request your intervention to ensure that the negotiation on wage revision is started at the
earliest and suitable instruction is given to LIC Management for a fair and reasonable
settlement in tune with the Central Government and other performing Navaratna
Companies. We would like to bring the following aspects in connection with the wage
revision due in LIC
Even though all former finance ministers have appreciated and praised the role of
LIC and its performance even at the best competitive scenario our pay and perks are
still very low compared to Central Government and Navaratna companies.
LIC is considered to be a Maharatna, a jewel in the crown of Public sector
undertakings. Still many improvements made in the wage structure of Central
Government, RBI and Navaratna companies are not done in LIC of India. We have
been demanding continuously to implement the concept of 'Grade pay' available in
Central Government and other Public sector undertakings. This will make the
promotions attractive and officers will show their best to ensure quick promotions it
will result in overall improvement in efficiency.
The delay in promotion in each cadre is now a cause of concern and de-motivating
factor for the officers. Earlier the average duration for next promotion in one cadre
was 4 years, where as it has gone to 8-10 years now. LIC management has to
consider this aspect and take steps to reduce the delay to make the employees
productive. The alarming impact of this is that one get stagnated after getting 2
increments, even if he gets promotion in time. That means for the next 6-8 years he
has to continue without the annual increments. Implementing running scale as done
in other organizations is the only solution to this problem, especially in the context
of delayed promotions.
The perquisites given in LIC now are much below the amounts given in RBI, SBI
and other Navaratna Companies. The leased accommodation rates, professional
qualification allowance, transport allowance etc, are much below the requirement. It
10
is only fair that we are offered parity with Navaratna companies on all these
perquisites.
Health care and pension system to be revamped to meet the current situation of
increasing longevity. In the pension system of LIC there is no enhancement with
wage revision, only increase in DA is provided. Only 30% of the pension is given to
the spouse on death of the pensioner. These aspects need a liberal review. We have
submitted our Charter of demands to the management on 1-08-2012 itself. We
request you to kindly intervene in these long pending issues and give necessary
instruction to the LIC Management to start wage negotiation at the earliest and
implement our charter in consultation with us at the earliest.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
S.Rajkumar

Information Sharing Session.
All the Unions were invited by the management for an information sharing session on 27th
August, 2014 at College of Insurance, Bandra Kurla complex, Mumbai. The Federation was
represented by General Secretary; Shri. S. Rajkumar, President; Shri. B S Humraskar,
National Secretary; Shri. U. K. Haldar in the forenoon session. Mr. M. R. Kumar, ED (P) in
his opening remark, expressed the purpose of the session and welcomed the gathering.
Afterwards, there was a presentation by F&A Department of Central Office which displayed
the various performance parameters of 2013-14. Then, the appointed Actuary; Shri. P. K.
Arora made a presentation on the Valuation results of 2013-14. He has established that there
is a continuous decline in the net number of policies from 2009 to 2010 in spite of increase
in new business mainly due to pure lapsation and surrender. However, there is an overall
increase in surplus and the solvency margin at 154%. Our persistency ratio is better than the
industry average. Later, the Chairman addressed the participants. He told that, it is not the
product differentiation but service differentiation, which is going to make the difference in
coming years. The Govt. has entrusted the sale of ‘Varishta Pension Bima Yojana’ to us
which shows their enormous faith in marketing capabilities of LIC. He made it very clear
that all the instructions from the Regulator Body has to be complied in Toto, especially in
areas like KYC, AML guidelines and other statutory compliances. He also mentioned that,
reinvestment of claim is good, but the ethical standard shave is to be maintained. He
informed that all efforts shall be taken to have a final option for Pension. The proposal for
wage revision was given by the Chairman (subject to approval by Govt.).Wage rise is
offered in two parts:
a) 10.5% overall increase in total wage bill as on 01.08.2012,
b) PLLI to be formulated by the Board based on the performance. Pay scales and rate of
Allowances shall be worked out after a broad understanding is reached on proposals. He
also stressed the following points:
i) Improvement in productivity, redeployment and mobility of work force.
ii) Code of conduct - Union work shall not be done during office hours. Meeting and
Demonstrations shall not be conducted during office hours and shall be outside the office
premises.
iii) Adaptation and up gradation of technology - Biometric authorization in place of
password.
iv) Customer orientation - Extension of cash hours by one hour, single window concept,
modern and tidy atmosphere in Branches and developing mini offices as Growth Centers.
In response to the offer, the General Secretary has told that the proposed hike is not
acceptable to the Federation. The minimum basic scale of entry level cadre officers in
Central Govt. is likely to be Rs. 63,000/- after the 7th Pay Commission, hence a 40% hike
alone can take us somewhere near to that stage. Our core areas in wage revision will be
grade pay, running scales and enhancement of fringe benefits. We have appreciated the
efforts of the management for one more option of pension. We stressed that the quantum of
Family pension should be 50% irrespective of basic pay. We also raised the point of
enhancement of Addl. Gratuity and free insurance, not revised since 1987.
12
At the end, the GS requested the management for restoration of NGI deferred due to the
strike on 18.2.2010 as it will be a morale booster for the entire Class-I officers. Other Union
Representatives also gave their response to the offer made by Chairman saying that the offer
is much below than their expectations and hence is not acceptable.
In the Afternoon, we were the first to be invited for individual discussion with LIC, in
which our Treasurer, Shri S.H. Chawla joined our above team of office bearers. In the said
discussion, the following issues were deliberated:-
1) Grade pay and running scales: It is informed that LIC is very much open to the same and
requested us to have detailed discussions with them on this issue at a later date.
2) Enhancement of Fringe benefits:
a) Educational loan – It shall be considered favorably.
b) Housing loan – Enhancement is under consideration.
c) Furniture Allowance – It can be considered within the overall increase in wage bill.
d) Petrol Allowance – Enhancement in Transport allowance will be considered as the petrol
allowance is already under scanner.
e) HRA – We demanded for 30% increase without ceiling as in Central Govt, which again
would be considered within the overall increase.
f) Leased accommodation – It is already under consideration as this was already raised by us
earlier also.
3) Pension option: We demanded one more option of pension vigorously. They informed
that they are also trying their best.
4) Pension reforms: They responded positively to our demand of 50% Family Pension
irrespective of Basic pay. Regarding our demand of making revision
Applicable to pension, they told that the matter is subjudice.
5) There was a positive response for our demand for revision of Addl. Gratuity
And free insurance.
6) Transfer Policy: We shall be invited soon for the discussion.
7) Professional Allowances: It is under consideration.
We impressed upon the management that there is a deterioration in the HR practices in
recent years, especially with regard to marketing officials. In Haldwani Division, the SDM
has issued a mail that all kinds of leaves (with prior Permission) of HODs and Branch I/C
will only be sanctioned by the SDM. In some other Divisions, Marketing Officials has to
come to open branch on Sundays and holidays and call SDM/MM from the landline of the
office. In Ernakulam Division, the practice of asking the explanation from the Satellite BMs
regarding the cost effectiveness is still continuing. We have informed that such harassments
cannot be tolerated any more. Also, we expressed our concern on the compulsory late sitting
especially in respect of Lady Officers. On 22nd August 2014, the GS met the ED(P) and
handed over the representation regarding the immediate implementation of Central Govt.
guidelines in respect of preference in postings of physically handicapped Officers, those
having differently abled children and sabbatical leave. We also requested for preferential
postings of lady officers as recently done in banks (Copy enclosed). We have very strongly
raised the issue of restoration of NGI with ED and MD and requested that this be settled
before any further talks on wage revision. They have informed that there is a technical
difficulty in annulling the decision of past three Chairmen even if they wish to do the same.
We have informed that we will be left with no option but to resort to agitation for which the
Management shall be responsible.
13
The meeting concluded with a positive note that the LIC will be inviting us for detailed
deliberation soon for the issues raised by us.
Federation has also responded to Chairman’s Appeal for donating
one day salary in Prime Minister’s relief fund by appealing the
officers to donate generously.

Government taking into account the recommendations of the 7thpay

decided to refrain from agitation in the present context as we do not want to do anything that affect the performance of the organization even
through this option is kept open. It has been decided to meet the Chairman for one more time and to approach the government if the
management is not obliging.
3. Role of Divisional Associations The Divisional Associations have to take up issues at the Divisional level

information from the Zonal leaders the All India leaders will interfere on
specific issues (other than common issues affecting all officers).

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in
the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell
cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment,
it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not
reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed
and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has nutritional deficiencies.
These could be due to genetic, but also to environmental, food and lifestyle
factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet to eat more
adequately and healthy, 4-5 times/day and by including supplements will
strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also
destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract
etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7.. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy
cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size.
However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more
tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the
immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can
succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become
17
resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to
other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it
with the foods it needs to multiply.
*CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with
Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey
or molasses, but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to
make it white in color Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract.
Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened
soy milk cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is
best to eat fish, and a little other meat, like chicken. Meat also contains livestock
antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to
people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a
little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be
from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes
that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to
nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building
healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean
sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at
temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C)..
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better
alternative and has cancer fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water,
or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is
acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes.
Undigested meat remaining in the intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more
toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating
less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and
18
allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac,
anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the bodies own killer cells
to destroy cancer cells.. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause
apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of
damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive
spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, un-forgiveness and
bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a
loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily,
and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen
therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.
1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave..
Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is
being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals
cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of
our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases
dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program
Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard.
He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not
be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially
applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat,
and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.
Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic
containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So
such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from
the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know
what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He
reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from
the foam containers to paper The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.
Please share this with your whole email list.........................
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when
placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high
19
heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into
the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.
