From the Principal Dear Parents/Guardians, Be Awesome Day Our 3rd annual Be Awesome Day was very successful. Although we were a little restricted in what we could do again this year, we were still able to honour ‘Stevo’s’ legacy and celebrate our school motto with a day of learning, laughs and plenty of awesomeness. A total of $546.85 was raised for the Kidney Foundation through the gold coin donation system. Thanks so much for your support! Below is some new artwork that appears in our office. Special thanks to Mrs Leed for showcasing our motto and honouring Mrs Stevens in this way. I hope you like it as much as we do.

Prep 2022 Transition – 3 down and 1 to go! Our Prep 2022 transition program commenced two weeks ago. Given the uncertainty of transition programs due to COVID-19, I’m really pleased that the children have been enjoying visiting our school, meeting their teachers, and getting familiar with our school. It has been awesome to see how happy they are spending time with Miss Vernon, Mr Greer and Miss Floyd, all while meeting new friends. We have one more Prep transition session on Tuesday 7th December. Staffing News I am pleased to announce that Miss Caitlin Green and Miss Alisha Mitchell were the successful applicants to our recently advertised teaching positions.

We are presently communicating with their current schools to arrange for their attendance at our ‘Step Up’ day on Tuesday 7th December (more details below). We are also organising for them to attend their 2022 team planning days next week. Classroom Teacher Placements for 2022 Our classroom teachers have been allocated to the following grades for 2022: Prep – Miss Madie Floyd, Miss Maddy Vernon and Mr Corey Greer Grade 1/2 – Mrs Kate Murphy, Mrs Lauren Schulz, Miss Taylah Coatsworth, Mr Luke Crawford and Mrs Jane Rodda (0.8)/Mrs Jenna Brewer (0.2) Grade 3/4 – Mr Luke Staley (0.8)/Mrs Jan Alexander (0.2), Miss Caitlin Green, Mr Ro Daenke, Miss Alisha Mitchell and Mrs Claire Feldtmann (0.6)/Mr Michael Smith (0.4) Grade 5/6 –Miss Ashlea Lockett, Mr Daniel Lidgett, Mrs Kelly Byron and Mr Chris McClellan Class Placements for Students in 2022 Staff recently asked students to give us the names of up to five other students that they believe they could work well with in a class next year. Staff are using this information to assist in determining our class lists. However, given that we aim to ensure that each class has a balanced number of boys and girls, academic performance, and so on, we can only ensure that each child has at least one of his/her suggested student’s in the class. Our teachers are very thorough in completing this process and always focus on creating the best teaching and learning environments for all students. ‘Step Up’ Day On Tuesday 7th December our current Prep to Grade 5 children will be involved in a ‘Step Up’ transition activity. On this day the children will be ‘moving’ to their 2022 classroom with their 2022 classmates. At this stage, all students will be spending time with their 2022 teacher. Orientation Day On Tuesday 7th December our Grade 6 children will be visiting their respective secondary colleges for the day, while our 2022 Preps will be visiting our school for their fourth and final transition session from 9.30am–12.00pm. Semester Two Student Reports Reports will be released electronically via Compass on Thursday, 16th December. Please be mindful that many other schools are likely to be releasing their Semester Reports at a similar time and that download speeds may vary depending on the time of day you are attempting to download. Reports will only be printed upon request. Final day of 2021 – early dismissal & final assembly The final school day for Spring Gully PS students will be Friday 17th December. Parents should note the earlier finishing time of 1.15pm. The final assembly for 2021 will commence at 1.00pm. Students will be dismissed from their classrooms at 1.15pm. Christmas Card Competition Sienna Walsh’s entry for the Christmas Card competition was selected as the winner for our school, whilst the overall winning entry was selected from Holy Rosary Primary School. Congratulations Sienna – enjoy spending your $40 book voucher! Sienna’s entry is on the next page.

Cyber Topic of the Week: CommonSense Media – A Parent’s Guide to Discord There seems to be a lot of students, particularly in 5/6, using the app ‘Discord’. How much do you know about it? Is it safe? What are the hazards parents should be aware of? The following link is to an article written very recently about this popular app. We have also attached a flyer for parents which comes from a reputable resource we often use.

Chargers can remain at home; please put them somewhere safe. The same device will be reallocated to Grade 4, 5 and 6 students when we return to school in 2022. Grade 3 students will be allocated a netbook for the first time once lease paperwork is completed by each family on Interview Day 2022. A letter will be sent home to 2022 Grade 3 families shortly. We have recently carried out inspections on all netbooks to ensure they are in good physical condition leading into the holidays. Upcoming Planning Days Over the next two weeks, 2022 teaching teams will be taking part in planning for next year. These days involve the students having all of their specialist classes on the one day, to free up classrooms teachers to meet. In Prep V, we have finished our RRRR Topic 'Gender and Identity'. I have been so impressed by Prep V's contributions to discussions over the term. They have shown a great understanding of gender equity. Here are some of their thoughts: 'Grown up people can cry and get mad. Everyone can feel how they like' - Ruby 'Boys and girls can put animals down gently and pat them on the neck' - Brad 'Boys can be strong. Girls can be strong' - Evie 'Boys can like pink and girls can like pink' - Sonny 'Anyone can like Pig the Pug' - Sophie 'Boys can be ballerinas and girls can be builders, it doesn't matter' - Azura 'Girls and boys can do the same things' – Edie

SWPBS In Prep V, Tom and Sonny 'cashed in' 30 GuGu stickers to race against Mr. Super Smith! It was so much fun watching the boy's race and all of the Prep classes cheered very loudly. Mr. Super Smith ran as fast as he could, and it was a photo finish on both occasions and Tom and Sonny both crossed the line first! Congratulations boys on the way you show our School Values - both big races' really were awesome! 'It was good racing him. At corners I am super speedy and fast, that's how I bet Mr Smith. It was super fun' - Tom 'It was good beating Mr Smith. It was a close race but I just bet him! I had fun' - Sonny

SRC Update

This year our SRC have been working toward a major project of improving the top play area. Due to the scale of their ideas and the interruptions to this year, this project will need to carry through to next year. We are currently in the process of getting a number of quotes for the big items, such as

resurfacing the top oval, improving the drainage next to the Ga Ga Pit, adding an adjustable basketball ring and the placement/refurbishment of the tables. Last week our SRC decided they’d like one final chance to contribute to this project, and have decided to run a casual dress fundraiser tomorrow - Friday the 26th of November. We are asking for a gold coin donation, with all money raised going towards the SRC driven project of improving the top area. Please ensure your casual clothes are still SunSmart.

Hot Shots Tennis Clinics

Our students have enjoyed the opportunity to participate in Tennis Clinics during the latter part of Term

3 and the start of Term 4. As part of this program, all Prep students will received a free tennis racquet

from Tennis Australia and ANZ. I would sincerely like to thank our coaches Aaron and Jim for running

the clinics. The students have learnt a lot in only a short space of time. I would also like to thank the

Spring Gully Tennis club for the use of the courts.
