SOCIAL STUDIES 4—ALBERTA: SENSE OF LAND Unit Project—Road Trip Across Alberta! Congratulations! Travel Alberta has decided to consider hiring you to host a family from the United States! You and the other potential hosts will be expected to make a road trip plan for the family so they may learn and appreciate the many unique features Alberta and its regions have to offer during their vacation. Travel Alberta has agreed to offer an all-expense paid trip with the family to the applicant whose winning plan is selected by the directors! Your mini-book travel guide can be done by hand with paper or using Microsoft PowerPoint. It must include a plan that will include at least one stop in each of three regions of Alberta of your choice (either the Rocky Mountains, Foothills, Grasslands, Boreal Forest, Parkland, or Canadian Shield). Use the attached resource list to find accurate information about the places the family will visit, the sights they will see, and the things they will do. Remember, you will want to make the plan as exciting, accurate, and attractive as possible so that the directors at Travel Alberta will select it to be the official road trip guide for the visiting family! Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you are unsure what region a particular attraction is located in. Be creative, have fun, a good luck!

Use the following resource to do your research, along with your mind map charts created in class for each region.

2. Click the link, BGRS – Engaging Students :: Explore Alberta3. Scroll down and click on the link that says, these websites4. Explore the websites specific to your chosen three regions, or check out the

links at the top for the Spirit of Alberta Image Gallery, Alberta Tourism and Vacation Guide, or the Alberta Roadside Attraction website.

You may also use other appropriate websites and the “research” tool in Google Docs. However, be sure to get permission to visit a source

beforehand. Make sure to keep a record of the sources that you use!
