Happy August, and what feels like
day 3 million of Covid-19. I hope
everyone is staying safe and
healthy.
Over the summer break the board
has been busy on a number of pro-
jects.
Lyle Circle had numerous trees
that were dead or dying which we
had cut down and removed.
We've continued to gather info and
documentation regarding the re-
strictions for each section of the
neighborhood and scheduled a
meeting with an attorney to once
and for all get solid, documented
information on the status of our
CCR's. We look forward to our
meeting and will make sure to
keep everyone informed regarding
the information we receive.
Coming up in September, we will
be looking to fill the following posi-
tions:
President
Treasurer
Board Member Canal Side
Volunteer for the Welcoming Com-
mittee
Volunteer for the Nomination Com-
mittee.
If anyone is interested in any posi-
tion or being more involved we would
love to have you.
Additionally, our first public associa-
tion meeting is scheduled for Septem-
ber 16th. Hopefully we are in a posi-
tion with the Covid-19 pandemic to
have the meeting as scheduled.
Up for member vote will be the elec-
tronic gate at Southwind Park. The
gate will be controlled by the same
electronic key fobs we use at the boat
ramp and can be programmed to lock
after dark and function again at day-
light.
This is the first step in a multi-
phase project to develop Southwind
Park for the use of Sea Pines proper-
ty owners. The following phases will
include a 60' deck on the north end of
the property for fishing and enjoying
sunsets, a covered gazebo area with
seating, charcoal bbq grills, a floating
dock for loading passengers on and
off boats only and additional overflow
trailer parking for the boat ramp.
If you have any additional ideas
please let us know! Stay safe and I
hope to see you all in September at
the meeting.

The Veterans Corner
By James Alling
Happy August Sea Pines!
As we continue with social distancing and isolation, some of
you Veterans may be in need of peer support due to loneliness
or just plain boredom. You might consider joining an online
support group whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, or a website
like Heroes Linked. There are several reasons why you might
choose to join one of these groups. First, it’s where your battle
buddies might hang out. On Facebook there are pages for al-
most every Military Occupational Specialty, and/or military
base. There is also a substantial difference in which attitudes
and behaviors are appreciated and sought after in the military
versus in the civilian community. The more conversations a
member can have with those who have been through a similar
situation, the more they can learn what behaviors from the
military should be kept and what should be shed. Next, they
have access to resources and information. Having a vast net-
work of peers available to connect with makes it easier to gain
firsthand knowledge about a community that might be a po-
tential next home. It can also provide you with actual connec-
tions in that very community, offering an invaluable support
system upon arrival. Lastly, you will get the opportunity to
make a difference. You never know how your experiences
might be helpful to someone else. As an advisor or mentor, or
potentially even as just an acquaintance or connection, you
could be an excellent guide for how someone can best succeed
within a new company, church, or even a homeowner’s associa-
tion like Sea Pines. Regardless of what website or social net-
work you might join or follow, surrounding yourself with peo-
ple like you will generally result in positivity in your life.
Next, some Veterans or even civilians may be experiencing
insomnia and the VA provided some helpful tips in case you
are having experiences with this frustrating situation. One of
the first recommendations is to be in bed just for sleep and not
for watching movies, working, or surfing on your smart phone.
If you are a reader, just reserve 10-15 minutes of reading time
in bed. Next, start disconnecting with all electronics 30 – 60
minutes prior to entering bed. Some suggestions were to talk
with your significant other, meditate, or pray; basically what-
ever works for you but try and stay off electronics. There were
numerous other suggestions and again these were if you are
experiencing insomnia. More information can be found at
https://www.blogs.va.gov/VAntage/77092/tips-help-sleep/. The
last recommendation of that article was if you are continually
having sleep related problems to call your VA provider for an
appointment.
Lastly, if you are having immediate issues that do not require
calling 911, please call the Veterans Crisis Line at 1-800-273-
8255 and press 1, or chat online at VeteransCrisisLine.net/
Chat, or you can text them at 838255. See you next month
and feel free to email me with any general Veteran’s related
questions!

Water Safety
The warm and sunny Pasco weather is
perfect for days on the water. However, it
creates possible dangers for those who do
not know how to swim. Fatal drowning
rates continue to increase each year. Resi-
dential locations, such as a child’s home, a
family or friend’s house or a neighbor’s
residence count for 71 percent of fatal
drowning incidents. This is expected to in-
crease as more families stay home to com-
bat the spread of COVID-19. The Pasco
Sheriff’s Office wants everyone to review
the following water safety tips in order to
reduce the chances of injury or death
around water.
Stay Alert
Many drowning fatalities can be prevent-
ed by adult supervision. Children should-
n’t be unattended in or near water. Rather
than assume someone else is watching a
child in a pool area, designate an adult
water watcher. This person shouldn’t be
distracted in any way and should have a
charged phone nearby for emergencies.
Although swimming lessons and life pre-
servers are important for water safety,
there is no substitute for adult supervi-
sion. Additionally, don’t leave objects,
such as toys near pools, docks, canals or
other bodies of water, which can draw a
child’s attention towards water.
Water Safety Skills
Learning to swim is crucial for water safe-
ty. Between 2015-2017, children younger
than 5 years old account for 75 percent of
child drownings. Ensuring that children
know how to swim and know the rules of
pool or water safety are vital for reducing
water-related incidents. Establishing
clear rules with children, such as don’t
climb pool fences or stay off of docks
while playing can aid in safety as well.
Another way to ensure safety while en-
joying water-related activities is knowing
CPR and updating these skills regularly.
Additionally, keeping rescue equipment
and a first aid kit poolside or easily ac-
cessible at all times can help prevent se-
rious injury or death. Starting life-saving
procedures prior to emergency person-
nel’s arrival can increase someone’s
chances of living.
Appropriate Equipment
Proper fences, alarms and pool covers are
crucial for water safety. Check to make
sure all drain covers are secure before
entering a pool or spa. Use at least four-
foot high fence with self-closing and self-
latching gates around all pools. Never
prop open gates that lead to water or
leave furniture where a child could use it
to climb over the fence. Use covers and
install alarms, such as a wave-activated
alarm in the pool or an alarm on the door
leading from the house to the pool. En-
sure all life-saving equipment, such as
life rings or reaching poles are in good
condition and readily available for use.
