SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER: Jesus’ commandment is that His disciples love one another, even to the point of laying down their lives, if necessary. What gifts of myself — my skills and talents, my time and resources — will best demonstrate my love for God’s people?

PEOPLE OF HOPE - Throughout this Easter season the readings have drawn us into the experience of the early church. We have tasted the excitement and zeal of the first Christians. Now, with them, we listen to the words of Saint Peter, who reminds us that when people notice that we are people of hope, we should be ready to explain why. This challenges us. Do others even notice that we are people of hope? In a world often marked by cynicism and hopeless-ness, do we stand out as people who offer hope and reassurance to others? In today's Gospel Jesus promises that when he leaves the earth he will not leave us orphaned. Today he promises to send his Advocate, the Spirit of truth who will be with us always. Let us acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and ask the Spirit to make us people of hope. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

To Receive Holy Communion (For those who are sick, hospitalized, or home bound). Please call Gloria Bowen, Eucharistic Minister to the sick at 310-670-5971. The Family Visitation Ministry offers spiritual support to those in need. Please call Sr. Teresita @ 310.216.2001, or the Church Office @ 310.670.2243.

FOCUS: Living as a disciple of Jesus requires that we be ever-ready and willing to share our faith with others. The first reading reminds that as disciples of Jesus, we must be willing to share with others the reason for our hope. Meeting this challenge requires first and foremost that Jesus, in whom we are saved and redeemed, is the source of our hope. We also need to pray each day so that we have the grace and strength we need to share our faith when the opportunity presents itself.

LITURGY OF THE WORD:

In Acts, we hear of the many people in Samaria who were accepting the word of God, and how Peter and John were sent to confirm them in the Holy Spirit. In the first Letter of Peter, we are encouraged to be ready to give an explanation for our hope. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that whoever has His Commandments and observes them is the one who loves Him.

Reflections on Today’s Readings:

The Divine Mercy Chaplet, The Divine Mercy Chaplet, The Divine Mercy Chaplet, private prayer, private prayer, private prayer, and adoration takes place in the Church, each and adoration takes place in the Church, each and adoration takes place in the Church, each Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm, and throughout the Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm, and throughout the Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm, and throughout the year. Ministry in Community…

Avoiding gossip - Our natural inclination is to discuss concerns and problems with the people in our lives,

but it can be easy for these discussions to slip into gossip. When gossip gets out of hand, it can damage reputations and create division and fear, without any discussion of how to resolve the problem. Teaching your children to avoid gossip and focus on truth starts at home—as always, parents lead by example. Try not to gossip about rumors or other people, and teach your children to seek solutions when there is a problem rather than just talking about it. For a copy of the VIRTUS© article “How Do I Avoid the Gossip Swirl?” email [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.

Kids Living Faith: Sunday, May 21st, 2017 Sixth Sunday of Easter I will not leave you orphans;

I will come to you. John 14:18 You can usually tell when your friends really like you. They show it by wanting to be with you. When you’re hurting or in trouble, they’ll help you in what-ever way they can. In the same way, you can tell that Jesus really loves you. He’s promised to be with you through every moment of your day. And because He loves you, you can count on Him to help you whenever you need Him most. Remember that whenever you’re frightened or sad.

Lord, your love gives me joy. Thank you for being with me each day of my life.

Bishops: Cardinal Dolan Calls Pro-Abortion DNC Pledge Extreme, Disturbing, Intolerant

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, chair of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, reacted to the announcement by the Democratic National Committee’s chair pledging support only for pro-abortion candidates. Calling the pledge ‘very disturbing’.” Cardinal Dolan urged party members to “challenge their leadership to recant this intolerant position.” “The recent pledge by the DNC chair to support only candidates who embrace the radical unrestricted abortion license is very disturbing. The Democratic Party platform already endorses abortion throughout the nine months of pregnancy, even forcing taxpayers to fund it; and now the DNC says that to be a Democrat— indeed to be an American — requires supporting that extreme agenda. True solidarity with pregnant women and their children transcends all party lines. Abortion doesn’t empower women. Indeed, women deserve better than abortion. In the name of diversity and inclusion, pro-life and pro-choice Democrats alike should challenge their leadership to recant this intolerant position.”

Holy Land Handicrafts Co. Holy Land Handicrafts Co. Holy Land Handicrafts Co. TODAY, we welcome with us representatives of the Christian Catholic families in the Holy Land and Jerusalem. As many of you know, with the war going on in that region, many families have lost their jobs and are now unable to support their families. So for a living they have started carving olive wood to sell to tourist who come to the Holy Land. However in recent times, the amount of tourists heading to the Holy Land has declined due to the wall that was built to surround Bethlehem. Also because of the discrimination in politics is has gotten much harder for them to market these carvings. With that, many of these Christians have found it easier to flee and start a new life somewhere else. And their numbers have now decreased from 60% to less than 2%. So instead we have invited them to bring their olive wood form the Holy Land here in the hope of supporting these families and providing them with food for them and their children. All the funds made here today will go directly to these families and their children. So please if you can, find it somewhere in your hearts to stop by our display and see how you can help them. Thank you and God bless.
