Dear Friends!
This Sunday on June 2, the last Sunday in the season of Easter, the following church Council members will be installed:
Amanda Ahrens - President
Kris Parsons - Vice President
David Putz - Treasurer
Lori Paulson - Secretary
Steve Loucks
Solveig Rice
Alice Thompson
Gene Takle
Al Jergens
On behalf of the congregation I will ask them: “Are you ready to accept and faithfully to carry out the duties of the offices to which you have been elected?” And then I will ask the community of St. Andrew’s: “Will you support these, your elected leaders, and will you share in the mutual ministry that Christ has given to all who are baptized?” Both the Coun-cil and Community of St. Andrew’s will be encouraged to reply: “Yes, by the help of God.”
After observing your Council members since coming on board February 1, I have no doubt they will be faithful in the promises they make. Perhaps per my suggestion, June is the first month in a year and a half when at least two council meetings are not scheduled. The Coun-cil has faithfully and carefully guided St. Andrew’s -- first through a difficult time, and later during over a seven-month period when there was not a full time pastor.
As a part of my Call as an interim pastor it is important to “speak the truth in love,” espe-cially at council meetings. At a recent meeting the truth I spoke was that the council was doing too much of the work of the congregation which didn’t allow for longer term plan-ning and visioning. This is due in part to a lack of ministry team participation and team sizes that no longer serves St. Andrew’s as well as it did twenty years ago.
This is all to encourage those of you not on a ministry team (formerly known as “committee”) to “step up and serve!” We Lutheran folk are shy people but all the baptized are given gifts to be used in ministry – this is most obviously seen at St. Andrew’s in the area of worship and music. People have offered their gifts and talents and Steve, Sarah and Connie have stewarded them in marvelous ways to the benefit of the whole community of St. Andrew’s!
St. Andrew’s currently has critical needs in the area of Stewardship, Finance, and Property. Speak to me or a Council member if you are willing to serve in these or in another area! St. Andrew’s has need of you!
In Christ,
AFFORDABLES at Bethany Life
Vacation Bible School
Summer Reading Buddies focuses on maintaining or improving literacy skills for children who have finished Kin-dergarten through 3rd Grade to prevent summer learning loss. Volunteers will go through a background check and are trained in the Words Their Way curriculum. Each student will have an individualized lesson plan created by site supervisors and volunteers will carry out the lesson plans provided for them. Volunteers then work one-on-one with their Reading Buddy twice a week for 45 minutes for six weeks during June 10th through July 25th. This is just 1.5 hours a week! We take one week off during July 1st through July 5th. An end of the program celebration will take place at Reiman Gardens in Ames on July 26th. Sign up to volunteer here: https://www.raising-readers.org/programs/k-3-reading-buddies/k-3-reading-buddies-volunteer-tutor-registration/
Thank you in advance for your commitment to serving children and families in Story County!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Affordables is asking YOU to volunteer at our store, which supports the residents of
Bethany Life in Story City. Can you volunteer 3 or 4 hours a month and pledge
to volunteer for a minimum of six months? We are ALL busy, but if you could commit to working 3 or 4 hours per month at Affordables, you would make a world of difference. You can chat with customers, help with displays, assemble merchandise, sort and price
merchandise or run the cash register. We will do EVERYTHING we can to ACCOM-MODATE your schedule.
We are personally asking YOU. Won’t you HELP US?
Call the store and talk to Denice about volunteering this week - 515-733-5304.
HELP US support the elderly in Story County. We can’t do it without YOU!

I am sure some of you are wondering about the Blessings Box on our front lawn. It works much like the book box-es you see around town. If you have extra personal items such as body soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toilet paper etc. Please place in box and if you need something please help yourself. This box is intended for use by members of both the St. Andrew’s community and our neighbors. Thank you for adding items to it.
