o New item 2 – heating concerns in sanctuary are currently being addressed.

Old Business

Four applications to carry over remaining committee funds from 2016 into restricted lines were received and reviewed. Motion to approve made by Linda and seconded by Sarah. Motion approved.

Linda reviewed the 2017 SALC proposed budget. The Stewardship & Finance committee had asked com-mittees and ministries for further reductions to mitigate an anticipated budget shortfall. S & F selected the remaining reductions. Motion made to approve the 2017 budget as proposed by the S&F committee – motion

carries. The S&F committee also cautioned Council to not continue to practice budget deficit spending in future years as this model is not sustainable in the long-term. Motion made, seconded and approved to accept the S&F committee recommendation to discontinue deficit spending practices in the future.

New Business

1. Council officer positions were reviewed and discussed. Several open positions will require replacement person-nel for 2017. These include Vice President and Treasurer Positions. Additionally, term limits for new Council members were discussed. Linda was recognized for her sustained and exemplary service to the Church while serving for the last 2 years as Treasurer.

Hans Peterson Worship February 26, 2017 Hans Peterson will be coming to lead worship at St. Andrew’s on February 26, 2017!

Last year, everyone had such a great time, we decided to do it again!

He will also be the guest speaker at Adult Forum that morning, so it is a day you don’t want to miss!

Join us for an amazing morning of singing and worship with this great wor-ship leader and his son.

Bring your friends and fill up a joyful heart with Hans Peterson and St. An-drew’s. Born and raised in an Alaskan village only accessible by barge or airplane, Hans Peterson has been performing since he got a hold of his grandpa’s uku-lele at age 6. With a soothing voice like John Denver, driving acoustic guitar, and creative piano playing, Hans draws audiences in with honest story telling in his songs.

Hans Peterson now lives halfway between Mankato and Minneapolis, Minne-sota on his Mother-in-law’s former dairy farm. Located in Belle Plaine Town-ship, Hans and Heidi are feeding and watering their two boys and over 10,000 trees they have planted there. When he is not weeding the garden or chasing sheep, he teaches music and continues to tour and record.

We raised $2300 for

the Youth Trip this

The Luther College Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Daniel Baldwin, will perform at 7 p.m. Monday,

Jan. 30, at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa. The concert is part of the

Symphony Orchestra's 2017 Midwest Tour.

The concert is open to the public with a freewill donation taken at the door. There is no charge for students. A re-

ception will follow the performance.

The program begins with a suite of dances from Aaron Copland's 1938 ballet "Billy the Kid," then features the

strings and harp alone in "Five Variants of 'Dives and Lazarus'" by Ralph Vaughan Williams. After an intermission,

the concert concludes with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" Op. 35, a symphonic suite based on the

folk tales "Arabian Nights."

A list of 2017 committee members has been posted on the bulletin board. If your name has been inadvertently left off or if you feel that you would like to join one of the committees, just write your name on the big sheet or let the church office know. Without the committees, the work of St. Andrew’s does NOT get done. Please give considera-tion as to where you think you could do God’s work thru St. Andrew’s.

Giving Voice for Iowa Children and Families – Lutheran Day on the Hill

Families living in poverty. Iowa children who go hungry. Former refugees building new lives. These kinds of is-sues are rarely the center of attention at the Iowa State Capitol. Let’s change that!

Please consider joining Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) and the three Iowa synods of the ELCA for Lutheran Day on the Hill, an annual day of advocacy in Des Moines to uplift the needs of our neighbors. The event will be held on Tuesday, February 21. Visit www.LSIowa.org/advocacy for event details, online registration and an online toolkit for your congregation, including how to participate in this year’s congregational letter-writing campaign.

If you are new to advocacy, come learn more about the legislative process and your role as a citizen. If you’ve at-tended before, join us again. We hope this year’s schedule will also allow you more opportunities to connect with legislators.

Our Mission: Lutheran Services in Iowa responds to the love of Jesus Christ through compassionate service. LSI is an affiliated social ministry partner of the Iowa congregations of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) and a member of LSA (Lutheran Services in America). We proudly serve people of all ages, abilities, religions, sexes, gender identities, national origins, ethnicities, races, and sexual orientations. Learn more at www.LSIowa.org and www.facebook.com/LSI.iowa.
