On Saturday February 27, St. Ann students Evan Arceneaux and William Carpenter IV competed in the Knights of Columbus (New Orleans Archdioc-esan level) Free Throw Contest in Laplace, Louisiana. They had previ-ously won the local competition held at St. Ann (hosted by Marquette Council 1437) and the subsequent district competition at St. Dominic.

I am pleased to announce that Evan won his division and earned the right

to compete for the State Championship to be held in Lafa-yette. William barely missed winning his division. Congratula-tions Evan and William!

Are you ready for new life in Christ OR are you simply satisfied with just the way it is? With re-gard to salvation, St. Au-gustine said: “Without us God will not. Without God we cannot.”

Have a Generous As you make your way through the Bible, you discover a God both gracious and compas-sionate. As we choose to follow Him, He beckons us to follow His example and be kind and openhearted our-selves.

We continue to look at Bible verses that give us a glimpse into the generosity that God wants us

3. Psalm 41:1–3 God’s promise to the generous

Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the Lord delivers him; the Lord protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies. The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.”

The Psalmist kicks off Psalm 41 by acknowledging the covenant that exists between God and the generous. God responds to the kindness and generosity of his people with protection, health, and abundance. As we’ll see in a bit, this is to enable them to be even more generous.

School News Happy Easter to all! Holy Week was a special week for our students. The students participated in Stations of the Cross on Wednesday. All students, grades 3-7, have had the opportunity for Reconciliation during Lent. The faculty and staff participated in a prayer service before we left for the Easter holidays. School will resume on Thursday, March 31st.

St. Ann Blood Drive Our St. Ann CYO will be sponsoring a Fund-raising Blood Drive on Sunday, April 3 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in

the school parking lot. For each pint of blood donated, our youth group will earn $10 to help fund our youth activities. There will be sign-up sheets in the entrance to the church to help schedule your donation. Give the gift of life and support our CYO!

St. Ann Holy Hour of Mercy  St. Ann Church and National Shrine is one of the nine Pilgrimage sites during the Jubilee Year of Mercy. One of the special programs being offered during the Jubilee Year is the Holy Hour of Mercy.

These special devotions will be cele-brated twice each month( and also by scheduled visits) for those groups making a pilgrimage to St. Ann Church and Shrine. Of course, St. Ann parishioners are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

On the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am and on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm we will celebrate the Holy Hour of Mercy. The Tuesday gatherings will be after Benediction and repose of the Blessed Sacra-ment, and before the celebration of the 7:00 pm Mass and the Novena to St. Ann.

These special hours will consist of; a brief history of the Shrine with a tour and explanation of the beautiful stained glass windows, the Calvary steps, the devotional candles and the newly enhanced upper level of the Shrine where the Relic of St. Ann is displayed.

An explanation of the indulgence will be explained. In ad-dition a Theological Reflection which includes a Scripture reading and Reflection with a theme of God’s Mercy will be celebrated. Recitation of the Stations of the Cross will take place.

Our first gatherings for the Holy Hour of Mercy will be Wednesday, April 13th at 10:30 am and Tuesday, April 26th in the Shrine.

May God abundantly bless all who visit during the Jubilee Year and all who participate in the Holy Hour of Mercy.

Thursday, March 31, 2016 Raised Up The First Reading continues from where the reading left off yesterday. The healing stories presented in chapter 3 help prove that God has raised Jesus from the dead. Pe-ter calls those who deny that Jesus is the Messiah to re-pent or be cut off from God. Ignorance is not an excuse because the prophets foretold these days. God is merciful to those who seek his holy name. Today’s Readings: Acts 3:11–26; Psalm 8:2ab and 5, 6–7, 8–9; Luke 24:35–48.

Friday, April 1, 2016 Ea ng Every time I hear the account in today’s Gospel, I am struck by the passion Peter has to greet our Lord. He can-not wait, and I presume he was filled with joy at the sight of Christ, because he jumps out of the boat. We need to be seized by the joy of Christ. How do we run to greet the Lord? Finally, can we be as bold as Peter and John in wit-nessing to the Resurrection? Prepare a festive meal in the coming week and share it with friends and family. Today’s Readings: Acts 4:1–12; Psalm 118:1–2 and 4, 22–24, 25–27a; John 21:1–14.

Saturday, April 2, 2016 Go Out Reading Acts is like reading a great novel. Today, Peter and John are forbidden to speak to anyone about Jesus, but they reply that it would be impossible not to do so. Has your heart been roused this Easter season to speak of the wonders Christ has done for us? Have there been times you’ve been silenced when talking about your faith in Christ? At the end of today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to go into the world and proclaim the Gospel. If you have not done so, download Pope Francis’ The Joy of the Gospel from the Internet. Plan to read parts of it during each week of Easter Time. Today’s Readings: Acts 4:13–21; Psalm 118:1 and 14–15ab, 16–18, 19–21; Mark 16:9–15.

This Week at Home Monday, March 28, 2016 Witness The speech Peter gives in the First Reading reminds us that each of us is a witness to the Resurrection. In Bap-tism, we have been raised to new life in the Spirit. Our commission, like the women in the Gospel, is to go and announce the Good News to our brothers and sisters. Rejoice, for our Lord is risen from the dead! Make time to attend Mass each day of the Octave of Easter. Today’s Readings: Acts 2:14, 22–33; Psalm 16:1–2a and 5, 7–8, 9–10, 11; Matthew 28:8–15.

Tuesday, March 29, 2016 Herald In today’s Gospel, Mary Magdalene is found weeping at the tomb. When she encounters Jesus, she thinks he is the gardener. When he calls out her name, she recogniz-es him and becomes a herald of the Good News. Think of an instance when it took a while to notice Jesus’ presence and then how you proclaim the Good News. Today, spend a few moments meditating with an image of the Resurrec-tion. Today’s Readings: Acts 2:36–41; Psalm 33:4–5, 18–19, 20 and 22; John 20:11–18.

Wednesday, March 30, 2016 Good News Jesus has bestowed upon his people many great gifts. In the First Reading, Peter and John proclaim Jesus as Sav-ior in the healing of the crippled man. In turn, the man went about praising God. The Gospel tells the story of Emmaus and how the two disciples recognize Jesus in the breaking of the bread. They quickly go to share this Good News. With whom could you share the Good News of Jesus Christ? You do not need to do this with words. Your deeds could share the work of Christ. Today’s Read-ings: Acts 3:1–10; Psalm 105:1–2, 3–4, 6–7, 8–9; Luke 24:13–25.
