St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God

to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith. We are a family of diverse people with various ministries: healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,

united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community. With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,

we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

Today’s Readings First Reading — You taught your people that those who are just must likewise be kind (Wisdom 12:13, 16-19). Psalm — Lord, you are good and forgiving (Psalm 86). Second Reading — The Spirit comes to aid us in our weakness (Romans 8:26-27). Gospel — Jesus proposes parables to the crowds, teach-ing them of the reign of God (Matthew 13:24-43 [24-30]). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997, Interna-tional Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.

Today is July 23, 2017 and the Sixteenth Sunday in Or-dinary Time. The Responsorial Psalm is, “Lord, you are good and forgiving.” (Psalm 86:5-6, 9-10,15-16) On July 26, we celebrate the Feast of our patroness St. Ann and her husband St. Joachim.

Use Some New Words, Impress All Your Friends!

collywobbles (n) – butterflies in your stomach logolespsy (n) – an obsession with words eunoia (n) – beautiful thinking with a well mind lagom ( n) – not too little, not too much (Swedish) noceur (n) – one who stays up late to revel or party pluviophile (n) – a lover of rain, someone who finds joy and peace of mind during a rainy day eleutheromania (n) – an intense and irresistible desire for freedom tarantism (n) – an uncontrollable urge to dance, believed to have been caused by the bite of a spider

Most of these words don’t even show up in spellcheck! As soon as you can pronounce all of them, call and let me know.

Another new word for me―meme: a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc., that is copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users. Some fun meme sayings:

“Collect moments, not things.” “They told me I couldn't and that's why I did.” “Throw kindness around like confetti.” “I've always loved the idea of not being what people ex-pect me to be.” “No one is too old for fairy tales.” “You only know a part of me; I am a universe full of secrets.” “Attract what you expect. Reflect what you desire. Be-come what you respect. And mirror what you admire.” “Reflect God's love for you and share it with all who you meet.” Serving Him Together, Barb A.

Don’t forget to write! If you’re going to be away this summer, you can place your weekly envelopes in the Sunday collection or leave them at the Parish Office before you go or upon your return.

Another option is to visit www.givecentral.org and auto-mate your contributions either through a regularly sched-uled direct withdrawal or a credit card transaction. Just remember that individual 50-50 envelopes still need to be turned in physically before the weekly drawings if you intend to participate.

Safe travels to all of our parishioners and loved ones this summer, and please don’t forget about us! We rely great-ly on your support and often have difficulty making ends meet when summer Mass attendance declines.
