Your support will help provide the Signs of Home to so many through the 30 ministries our annual appeal benefits. Our parish’s goal is $112,200. Amount pledged $103,953, amount paid $67,698. Every gift-large and small, makes a difference! If we raise more than our goal, 70 percent of the amount over goal will be returned to us for our use. This is an amazing opportunity for our parish. St. Vincent de Paul Society St. Anthony Conference
In the Gospel today, Jesus stands in the midst of us and says: “Peace be with you!” Indeed, the mercy of God centers our heart in peace. In the month of April, through your gifts, our Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to help 43
families celebrate the peace of Easter by providing food, Easter baskets for the children, and by assisting families with some of their utility bills. We thank you for your continued support. Today we will once again hold a Food Pantry to continue to help those who have come to us for assistance. We thank you for your generosity of non-perishable foods and monetary donations. There will be no Food Pantry in May but we will be back on our monthly schedules in June. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul welcomes those who wish to serve their neighbor. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at the phone number given below. If you, or someone you know may need some temporary assistance, please have the person in need call our Parish office phone at 815-469-3750 ext. 114 and leave a message. The call will be answered as soon as possible.

Missions Appeal Today!
Right now over 40% of dioceses in the United
States are considered mission territory because
they are unable to fund essential pastoral work in
their communities. Your donations support
programs, such as religious education, seminary
formation, and lay ministry training, to build
vibrant faith communities right here in the United
States. Please be generous. Find more

Through his Resurrection, did Jesus return to
the physical, corporeal state that he had
during his earthly life?
The risen Lord allowed His disciples to touch
Him; He ate with them and showed them the
wounds of His Passion. Nevertheless, His
body belonged no longer only to this earth,
but rather to the heavenly kingdom of His
Father. The risen Christ, who bore the
wounds of the Crucified, was no longer
bound by space and time. He could enter
through locked doors and appear to His disci-
ples in various places in a form in which they
did not recognize Him immediately. Christ's
Resurrection was, therefore, not a return to a
normal earthly life, but rather His entrance
into a new way of being: "For we know that
Christ being raised from the dead will never
die again; death no longer has dominion over
Him" (Rom 6:9). (YOUCAT questions 107) Dig

After his Resurrection, Jesus greeted Hs dis-
ciples with a very particular greeting “Peace
be with you.” He breathes on them and
gives them the gift of the Holy Spirit and
then He sends His disciples to forgive sins.
We have received the gift of the Holy Spirit
in our Baptism and our sins were forgiven.
The Holy Spirit, forgiveness of sins, and the
gift of peace are given to us. When we have
these gifts, we can be people who forgive
others as Jesus taught.
Question for Children: Thomas didn’t believe
because he hadn’t seen Jesus with his own
eyes. How hard is it for you to believe in God
without being able to see God? How do you
see God in the words and actions of others?
Question for Adults: Jesus said: "Blessed are
those who have not seen and yet believe."
Give one example of how you will show your
belief in Jesus this week - how you are being
sent forth.

TREASURES FROM OUR
TRADITION
An ancient title for this
Sunday is Dominica in Albis,
or “Sunday in White.” During
the Easter Vigil, the newly
baptized are invested with a
white garment, a sign that they
have put on Christ. At one
time, the garments were worn for a full week of
celebration and reflection, and on this Sunday the
newly baptized would appear in their robes again in
their new place among the faithful for Eucharist.
In later centuries, the energy of new life at Easter
was largely forgotten, and this Sunday was renamed
“Quasimodo Sunday,” or “Low Sunday.” In recent
years, with the recovery of the insight that Easter is the
privileged time for celebrating and renewing baptism,
there is nothing “Low” about this Sunday. At a
week’s distance, the beauty and grace of our Easter
celebration is sustained by joyful alleluias, the
blessing and sprinkling of holy water, and the comfort
of the Lord’s presence to us. He is risen, and he
summons us together, opening up the scriptures for us,
breaking the bread, filling us with new life. ~James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

believing! Since

instantly to social
media, live TV,
and loved ones’
faces near and far, “Doubting Thomas” could be our
patron saint: “Unless I see, I will not believe!” But
how comforting for any of us who share Thomas’s
doubt, or love “doubters” who do, to see how kindly
Jesus responds. By offering the very evidence that
Thomas demanded, Jesus doesn’t scold Thomas, but
seems to understand such skepticism. Could Jesus
have been thinking of us, who long to believe that
“Jesus is risen!” but see so much suffering, and
perhaps even cause some, that we wonder, how could
something so wonderful be true? In today’s reading
from the Acts of the Apostles, the risen Jesus’ healing
love comforts through disciples who love others. In
Revelation, “our brother John” doesn’t just claim he
saw Jesus alive, but passes on Jesus’ life-giving words,
“Do not be afraid.” Seeing Jesus in others is believing! Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
