Message from the desk of the Pastor
My dear people of God,
We have heard an account from the sixth chapter of the Gospel of St. John over the past several Sundays. It is a long chapter and it reflects the experience of one generation of the Apostolic Christians’ experience. John makes a strong point at the conclusion of this Gospel that he writes “as an eye-witness and he knows that he tells the truth.”
What happened in that early Apostolic Church was that some of the disciples began to take the Eucharist too casually. Some had even be-gun to deny that the Eucharist is Christ. Inspired by God, John, as an eye-witness and as the “beloved disciple” would remind the early Chris-tians what Christ said and what he meant. For that reason it was not necessary for him to give an account later about the Last Supper and the institution account.
Holy Mother Church also reminds us in this age and generation of the necessity to remember Who the Eucharist is. Many of us received our first communion early in life and can become too familiar with this celebration and sacrifice. We can hunger for the toys the world offers us and forget the great gift of Jesus himself. I have been with a pastor, Msgr. Romer, who had a great devotion to Jesus’ Real Presence in the Eu-charist. My parish was named “Blessed Sacrament” and my teachers were the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament (our neigh-bors) at St. Vincent’s. I always give thanks to God for this background. I also found the depths of my vocation as a priest in the Eucharist.
I urge our parishioners to reflect upon, pray to and make visits to our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. He always is present to us in our beautiful church. That is why we reverently genuflect and pray silently before mass. That is why we should take the time to pray to Our Lord after receiving him at communion. May it never be said that we have not taught our children and young people this most central truth. May we be known as a Eucharistic people. God will always bless us if we turn to him and remember...he is always with us to love us and to care for us.
May God bless you.
Sincerely yours in Christ
Fr. Joseph

DEACON GERALD COLUMN
Jackie and Jerry Kocurek asked: “Who is paying for the repairs in the Life Center?”
First of all the name of the center is “ST. ANTHONY CENTER”.
The full responsibility for the Center is St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the ultimate cost responsibility is St. Anthony’s. To help all understand the path of events that bring us to where we are today I want to give a summary of how we got to where we are.
After we completed our construction of St. Anthony Center the Archdio-cese coached us that we must have the center inspected and comply with the “Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) for Architectural Barriers”, or we could be fined extensively by the State. To meet this requirement we contacted a local certified RAS (Registered Access Specialist) inspector to perform the inspection. He sent us an independent RAS inspector with whom I toured the facility. This inspector provided us with a list of items that need to be corrected to meet compliance.
I discussed the report with our construction contractor to determine our path to compliance. Previous to this time neither contractor, nor myself, understood the seriousness, nor scope of the TAS standards. Both of us have been educated. Finally, in answer to your question, St. Anthony’s and the contractor have agreed to share the cost of the renovations.
In hindsight, to build St. Anthony Center the staff and Building Committee
made the decision to utilize a contractor without “commercial construction”
experience and to bypass the use of an architect. Both of these could have
prevented most of the TAS problems, though probably not 100%. On the
other hand, the cost for both would have been more expensive than what
our total construction costs have been, including these present renovations.
To: The Youth of St. Anthony
Judy and I thank you so much for the
signed handwritten card made by
your group. The card was not store
bought but made personally by St. Anthony's Youth Group for
the sofa and loveseat we donated to the youth center. It brings
much joy and Gods blessing that our youth group is so apprecia-
tive when they recognize how the people in our church commu-
nity come to together to make our church shine in Gods eyes.
Gods Blessings to them,
Judy and Albert Priselac

Pro Life Corner: Be pro-life. The pre-born cannot speak in defense of them-selves. The only voice they have is yours. Join pro-life today.
St. Paul tells us to be careful in the way we live. Do we listen and follow God’s voice so we can discern His will in our own lives and marriage relationship? The next Worldwide Marriage Encoun-ter Weekends are October 9-11, 2015, or November 6-8, 2015. Register early to reserve a spot. Contact Brian & Tina Little at 281-773-4014 for more infor-mation, or go online to houstonme.org.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 God forgave our sins that we had whenever he died on the cross for us. If God can forgive us then we can forgive those few people in our lives that have hurt us. I know it's some-times hard to forgive those people who have hurt you or those people who aren't in your life now. We have to always love one another even when they have done something wrong. When you don't forgive someone, you're only mak-ing yourself miserable by thinking about what they did to
you. We shouldn't look back on the past because God has something incredible planned for your future. ~~Kyle
St. Anthony’s would like to wish Walter & Judy Griffith a very Happy 58th Wedding Anniversary Blessing. Congrat-
ulations and many blessings!

As we really face our selfishness, as we really face our unjust angers, as we really face the grudges that we hold, as we really face the bitterness that is there, we don’t have to sweep it under the carpet. We can look at it and know that God loves us as we are and is willing to help us grow be-yond these faults and failings.

Please Pray for Priests
Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5) May your priest have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priest be holy, filled with the fire of your love seek-ing nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen.
St. John Vianney, pray for us.
