It isn’t easy to decide on career option that will determine the rest of your life for

you, especially at the tender age of 16 or 17. The confusion a student faces is huge

and varied in nature.

Your course of study after 10th class may be more generalized, but they are essential

in giving you a solid foundation for the career courses after 12th. Doing your

research in advance can turn out to be fruitful in life.

There is no need to panic or become anxious. It is not advisable to make hasty,

unplanned decisions due to peer / parental pressure. It’s important to pursue a

field you are truly passionate about.

The biggest decision post class 10 is picking the right stream. Picking the right

stream is extremely important as everything that happens there after will depend on

it.

At times students follow the herd mentality and pick the stream which their friends

opt for or for the one which their parent’s suggest. This is a wrong and dangerous

practice and will lead to flawed career decision. Therefore, proper understanding and

knowledge of the stream you opt for and the future career options they offer, is very

important.

Science is easily the most attractive stream and the one almost every parent wants

their child to opt for. But as I told you don’t follow the herd mentality or make

decisions based on peer or parental pressure. Take your time, research on it, know

yourself and then make your move.

If you are good at SCIENCE & MATHS and you like those subjects and you want to

contribute to the society by entering into a profession related to Science, then only

you should go for the Science Stream; otherwise kindly don’t opt for it. You have

other streams like Commerce and Humanities which have better scope these days.

and services from producer to final consumers. If numbers, finances and economics

are your forte, you must opt for Commerce Stream. This stream offers a wide arena

Humanities or what is popularly known as the ARTS Stream was traditionally the

least preferred option among Class10 students but this perception is changing with

time. Today, Arts stream has emerged as the widest study stream among all three,

academics, interests etc and make a wise decision.

health. Hence have a discussion with your child. Be open to listen

to their ideas.

● Talk with other people who give you correct information regarding

the updated list of career options. If you stay updated then you

can guide your child in a better way.

● Take ownership for your life and studies.
