If parents want their own access credentials then please ensure that each parent has provided the school with a separate email address. This is a reminder that school reports will be available at the end of the year via the Parent Portal. Reports will not be mailed home or sent home with children. If a hard copy is required then parents may collect one from the school by visiting the school on the last 2 days of term during school hours to request a printed copy. It is hard to believe that my first prep class has graduated from St Augustine’s and what a fantastic

journey we have had. However, that night would not have been made possible without the help of a

few very special people. THANK YOU to Miss Erin and Miss Amanda for their decorating skills and

printing skills for the Year Book and Booklet. THANK YOU to Jake for his coordinating of all the music

and PowerPoints, a huge job. A HUGE THANK YOU to Trish & Coral for the BEST graduation Cake

EVER!! And last but not least, THANK YOU to the Year Five students and parents who not only provid-

ed a beautiful supper but worded very hard on the night serving all our guests. A great start for our

new School Student Leaders.

Year 6 Graduation

Social Emotional Learning

And so we reach the end of our incredible journey at St. Augustine’s for 2016!

As I reflect on the experiences of our year, I realise how hectic life is and how we so often, get caught up in the busy-ness of our daily living. This only serves to emphasise how important it is that we ‘tend’ to our (and our children’s) wellbeing. Not only do we need to be mindful of the Social, Emotional Skills we hold, but also recognise how or even, IF, we nurture these. If we look back on our year, can we proudly say we have been Confident? Can we identify times we had to Persist, especially when the going got tough? Were we able to Get Along with others even though we may not have liked or agreed with them? How Organised were we in order to be prepared for our daily routine as well as being ready for interruptions? And finally, were we able to bounce back to be Resilient when faced with an obstacle. Each of these skills underlie our Social, Emotional capacity and hence wellbeing! In this week’s Gospel (Matthew 24:37-44), we are called to be awake to God’s presence amidst the demands of the present. Matthew calls us to be attentive, by acknowledging the past but staying focused on the future. Advent is this time- we are invited to contemplate and look forward with vision. And so we do just that, I invite you to take time over the holidays to refresh and refocus. Let us open our thoughts and our hearts to reconnect with what and who, is important. Let’s take time to re-align our dreams and visions for the New Year to come! In finishing, I pray that each and every one of our school community- our staff, students and families- are blessed with the presence of Christ this Christmas. May we reach out to those around us and embrace the gifts we are given to offer and be Hope in our world.

Have a wonderful holiday everyone! Sincerely,

Gayle Duncan (SEL Coordinator)

Religious Life of the School ~ News from the APRE

1st December 2016

An attitude of gratitude ~ Thank you! A heartfelt thank you to all our students and families who donated towards this year’s Christmas appeal. Your act of mercy for those less fortunate will go towards restoring hope in this season of Advent where Christians wait for the hope of the world to be born ~ Jesus.

Advent Message ~ Revisiting Pope Francis’ 3 keys to a happy family going into Christmas!

With the end of a very positive and busy school year upon us, and going into 4 weeks of Advent in the lead-up to Christmas, it can be a hectic, stressful time for families. Pope Francis offers some timely words (again) that can really help us focus on the things that really matter in our families at this time of year.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Today I would like to continue our talk on the family by reflecting on three phrases: “May I?," “Thank you," and “I’m sorry." These simple phrases are not so easy to say or to put into practice. But when they are ignored, their absence can cause cracks in the foundation of the family, which can lead to its col-lapse. If these words are part of our daily lives, not just as a formal expression of good manners, but as a sign of deep love for one another, they strengthen a happy family life. “May I?” — even if we think we have the right to something, when we speak to our spouse or family member with kindness we create space for a true spirit of marital and familial common life. We renew trust and respect, revealing our love for others, and we allow them to open the door of their hearts to us. “Thank you” — our society has great need for gratitude, which makes us more sensitive to the dignity of the human person and the demands of social justice. Thankfulness is also the language of God, to whom above all we must express our gratitude. “I’m sorry” — Without these words, hurt can develop in our relationships, and weaken our life as a family. But when we ask forgiveness, we show our desire to restore what was lost – respect, honesty, love – and healing between family members is made possible. “May I?" “Thank you," “I’m sorry” – Let us ask the Lord to keep these three phrases in our hearts, our homes and our communities.
