Gospel of Mark Cards
Each week, we are going to learn a bit more about who Jesus is. In the set of cards, there are 4 cards that relate to each week (2 duplicates). Can you find them? Using the stand, you could display one of the cards each week to remember, or even use the cards to play a game of snap or memory. Cards will be available for collection at St Bart’s from Sunday July 26.

St Bart’s Kids Small Group Session Outline
Main Point: The Kingdom of God has come in Jesus. We should turn away from ourselves, and follow Jesus.
Discussion Questions Read Mark 1:14-15 from the Bible Story (page 1)
1. What is the good news about? (It is all about Jesus!)
2. What is not good about our sins? (Our sins separate us from God. Sin is anything that is not like God - could be how we act, what we think, and forgetting that God created everything, and knows how everything should run the best.)
3. Who should we turn to? ( Jesus! Jesus is God - who came to earth as a man. He is the only person who can make everything right, and restore everything.)
Read Mark 1:16-20 from the Bible Story (page 2)
4. What were Simon, Andrew, James and John doing before Jesus called them? (They were all fisherman - busy throwing and preparing their nets.)
5. Were they doing anything special to be picked? (No - the most important thing was that Jesus picked them. Jesus didn’t pick them because they were super smart, or because they had already proven themselves. He called them to follow him.)
6. What did the disciples do when Jesus called them? (They followed him! They left everything to follow him.)
7. How do you get to know a friend? (You spend time with them and talk with them.)
8. How did the disciples get to know Jesus? (They followed him. They left everything behind to follow him. This meant getting to know Jesus, spending time with him, listening to him, seeing how he treated people.)

Explanation of the Mark Series The Gospel of Mark is an action-packed account of Jesus’ life. In 16 brief chapters, Mark reports the significant claims and actions of Jesus, giving special attention to the events leading up to his death. Mark shows us that Jesus isn’t just one dimensional, but the fulfilment of the greatest hopes for all of humanity. Over 12 weeks, we’ll be exploring who Jesus is and why he matters to us today. This will help us to answer: Who do you say that I am?

Prayer Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you sent us Jesus - so we could see you and know you. We give to you all the sin of our lives. Please help us to love and follow you, just like Simon, Andrew, James and John - trusting and following you wherever you lead us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Discussion Questions Read Mark 1:14-15 from the Bible Story (page 1)
1. Do you think the world is perfect? What does the world need? (We can look around at homelessness, sickness, war, violence, and hurt, and know that the world is not perfect. By ourselves, we can’t perfectly fix the world - we need God to do that.)
2. Why do we need to turn away from our sins? (Our sins separate us from God. Sin is anything that is not like God - could be how we act, what we think, and forgetting that God created everything, and knows how everything should run the best.)
3. Who should we turn to? ( Jesus! Jesus is God - who came to earth as a man. He is the only person who can make everything right, and restore everything.)
4. Do you think the Kingdom of God can exist without Jesus? Why/why not? (Any kingdom needs a king. Jesus is the King. When he comes to earth, we get to see what the Kingdom of God looks like. People are healed, evil is removed, people are raised from the dead, and sins are forgiven. Jesus is the only way to the Kingdom of God.)
Read Mark 1:16-20 from the Bible Story (page 2)
5. What were Simon, Andrew, James and John doing before Jesus called them? (They were all fisherman - busy throwing and preparing their nets.)
6. Why important characteristic did the disciples need to be picked by Jesus? (The most important thing was that Jesus picked them. Likely, Simon and Andrew, James and John, didn’t not have much education. Jesus didn’t pick them because they were super smart, or because they had already proven themselves. He called them to follow him.)

Following Jesus means turning and trusting in him, saying sorry for you sin, and loving Jesus with all your mind, soul, and strength. It might be a bit unknown where following Jesus will take you - just like the fisherman didn’t know where Jesus was going to go.)
