No more Homework, no more Books… I am happy to report that my collegiate career is quickly coming to an end! After my thesis review in mid-February the only thing left to do is walk the aisle to receive my diploma in May. Even though I like to read and write, after several years of studies it will be nice to not have to worry about turning in assignments or taking tests. Let’s be honest, there are not many people who enjoy being tested (other than those who know they will do well)! So, it is no surprise that most people do not enjoy it when life seems to be testing them on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, being tested seems to just be a part of life and it can come in many forms. It may be certain people in our lives. It may be our finances. It may be our health or the health of a loved one. It may be an inability to seem to connect with our family. The list could go on and it is different for everyone. But what seems to be universal is that when you are in the midst of a trial, it can seem like it will never end.

One thing that can help is to remember that God does not put us to the test. Like any loving parent, however, he may allow trials in our lives so that we can learn to grow. Through challenges, we learn about our own capacity and we learn to strengthen areas of our character that may be weak. Even though we do not like being tested, it can lead us to be better versions of ourselves.

Finally, we need to remember that we are not alone in our trials. In the letter to the Hebrews today, we are reminded that we have a savior who was tested through his suffering and so is able to help us when we are tested. So, when you feel tested beyond your strength, call on Jesus to help you through…he’s been there too.

Has anyone seen my #2 pencil?

FORMED/PARISH

Take a listen in FORMED to this book on tape, “Because God is Real: Sixteen Questions, One Answer” by Peter Kreeft. In our world today some people no longer believe in faith or are having a difficult time defending their faith. Atheists and Agnostic writers are aggressively attacking traditional religious beliefs. Peter Kreeft is a Philosopher and prolific writer who is up to the challenge with this work of popular apologetics for both adults and teens. Peter Kreeft provides thoughtful, lucid and persuasive answers for believers, unbelievers and seekers. He is insightful. He is entertaining and he is inspiring. This book on tape is ideal for those exploring faith for the first time; for confirmation candidates and religious classes. Submitted weekly by a St. Bernard Parishioner

Blessing of the throat will be after ALL Masses this weekend. What is the Blessing of the Throat? The “Blessing of the Throats” is a ritual prescribed and authorized by the Roman Catholic Church, usually observed on the feast day of St. Blaise on February 3. The ritual proceeds as follows: During the blessing the Priest or Deacon holds two candles tied together with a red ribbon in the form of a cross at the throat of the person seeking a blessing and prays aloud: “Through the intersession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God preserve you from throat troubles and every other evil. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. www.catholicdoors.com

St. Bernard Paschal Candle PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL The Paschal Candle is one of the most sacred and enduring symbols of the Light of Christ. The candle this year is called “Proclaim the Gospel.” In Christian symbolism, the square represents the four corners of the earth as well as the four Evangelists. These bands of squares, each square encompassing a cross, is a reminder to us to

spread the Good News throughout our lives, wherever we go. This Paschal Candle may be purchased in memory of a loved one. If you are interest in “sponsoring” the candle, call Rhonda at 920.739.0331 or email [email protected]. The cost for the candle is approximately $260.
