Dear Friends,

Some of us are Marthas, and some of us are Marys. If you’re like me, you remember

hearing—or perhaps even saying—this old adage. In this weekend’s Gospel we hear the ac-count that inspired it. Jesus visits a home, and one of his hosts, Martha, is attentive to his

every need as she makes sure he is comfortable and well fed. The other of his hosts, Mary,

is attentive to Our Lord in a wholly different way as she sits at his feet and listens to him.

It is said that doing for Jesus is easy, while being with Jesus is actually the harder

task. At first glance, we may all agree that Martha is the doer in this story and therefore the

worker, but we mustn’t lose sight of the fact that it takes perhaps an even greater effort to simply be with God.

If we reflect on this passage and ask ourselves if we are a Martha or a Mary, then the Gospel ac-

count is lost on us. Rather, we are called to be both a Martha and Mary; a worker and a listener. It is in

serving the needs of God and his Church that we are then called to something even deeper: the far greater

task of being in the Divine Presence. This is what Luke calls, “the greater part,” and this is also our

unique calling as Christians.

Brothers and sisters, no less than Jesus Christ is knocking at your door this very moment. By all

means, tend to his needs and see that he feels welcomed and at home, but know that he will never be

truly at home with you if you do not choose the better part, stop your busy-ness, sit at his feet and listen

to his words. Yes, to a world full of Marthas you may appear to be lounging, but the world’many Marys

and, more importantly, God himself, will know that you are actually hard at work!

With love and prayers, Fr. Marty

Catholic Relief Services Spotlight

In Afghanistan, 10-year-old Morzal attends a school that was set up by Catholic Relief Services 3 years

ago. Through school, she has found her voice and has started writing about her fear of war. “[Writing]

has made me more confident,” she says. Morzal is one of 7 girls in her class in Afghanistan, and the first in

her family to have ever attended.

The war has taken its toll on Morzal's remote community. “We live close to the frontline, so there is always a threat [of

war],” Morzal's mother Halima admits. "Sometimes, during the night, the men of the village go to the mountaintops to

see if the Taliban is coming.” Despite their hardship, hope still exists. “When CRS set up the school 3 years ago, we

knew that the future of our children would change,” says Halima. “My daughter has become confident and has started

dreaming of a better future.” Read more about Morzal's story at www.crs.org

Facilities Faith Lift II Capital

Campaign News

We wish to thank all of our parishioners for their generous pledges thus far to

the Facilities Faith Lift II campaign. We are sincerely grateful for each and every

one. If you have not received a campaign packet or commitment card, please

contact us at the Parish Office at 610-367-2371 and we will be glad to mail

one to your family. We will continue to accept commitment cards at any time

during the three years of our new

campaign.

If you wish to use Parish Giving and need help setting up your pledge, please

contact them directly at 1-866-307-7140 or call the office and Lisa or Gayle

will be happy to assist you!

**Please note: If you are making a FFL II Pledge payment and still have a balance on your FFL I, we will first credit your payment

to your FFL I balance. Thank you.

Our Pennies to Bricks campaign is well underway! Our new Lego structure is

“under construction” in the Narthex! We

will enjoy watching our “brick foundation”

grow as these three years go by! Please

remember to bring in your coins to the next

monthly Children’s Mass September 8th at 11am to receive your brick

and add to our structure.

Please remember to pray for your spiritually

adopted families. In this way we may join

together, pray for one another and ask for

God’s blessing on each other.

We’d like to invite those who have fulfilled their Facilities Faith Lift I and/or II to be part of our Tree of Life in the Narthex. Depending on the level of pledge fulfilled, there are leaves, acorns, doves and stones. Please call Gayle Fontaine, chairperson at 610-367-2371 to

memorialize your deceased loved ones or to honor your loved ones who are

living.

Prayers for Priests, Deacons, Vocations: Please kindly

remember in your prayers all of the living and deceased

priests and deacons of our Diocese. Please also pray for

our seminarians and for an increase in vocations to the

priesthood and religious life.

Serran Prayer for Vocations O God, who wills not the death of a sinner but rather that

he be converted and live, grant we beseech you, through the

intercession of the Blessed Mary ever Virgin, St. Joseph

her spouse, St. Junipero Serra and all the saints, an in-

crease of laborers for your Church, fellow laborers with

Christ, to spend and consume themselves for souls through

the same Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with

you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.

Amen.

Thank you for your generous contributions last week to the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe! Your contributions will help restore the Church and build the future in more than 20 countries. If you missed the collection, it’s not too late to give. Mission Trip 2019 Update

Our Mission trip to Virginia Beach, VA was a huge success! Our

teens and chaperones encountered Christ in so many ways.

Thank you to ALL who donated money or materials. We were

super prepared as always. Thank you to Gina DiSantis, Joe

Repko, June Kelly, Marlee Snyder, Brian Quinn and Rich Snyder

for giving up a week of their own busy schedules to be with our

teens. Lastly- thank you to our teens! We always seem to have

the most behaved group and I cannot thank you enough for be-

ing OPEN to what God had planned for you during that. I can

only hope that you take what you have learned and keep it with

you as you continue to grow in God’s love.

A message from the Director...

What a great year we have had in Youth Group! We had so

many fun outings, deep and thoughtful meetings, a WONDERful

new women’s retreat, an inspiring Holy Week Mission and so

much more. Our Core team went to a training with Life Teen and

we have two amazing summer trips coming up. I could not have

done this without the most AMAZING Core team of volunteers…

Christie Edling, Megan and Joe Repko, Adam Taylor, Mary Cris

and Greg Guerin and Marlee Snyder. I thank each of you from

the bottom of my heart. Ministering teens isn’t easy- but doing it

with these amazing people makes it easy and makes it FUN!

Thank you to our YG parents who bring their teens to YG- I can

see your teen growing in faith and I hope you do, too. Thank you

to all the donations from our parishoners- Your support means

so much to us. Lastly, a thank you to Father Marty for always

supporting us in what we do and with our crazy ideas.

Peace and blessings,

without “buying anything extra”.

Widow and Widowers Grief Support : The next “REACH OUT” meeting is July 28th, This meeting will be at St Columb-

kill’s Conference RM at 1 PM. While there is a season for everything, grief visits them all. Giving due respect, working through grief can bring us to new discoveries as we respond to the changing of the seasons. Come join us. Those who have lost a loved one know how important this can be. For more information and for anyone who has suffered a loss of any one close to them, please call Dn. Mike Boyle at 484-336-9849.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION ~ A JOURNEY: We are all on a journey and life is about going on the journey, not the getting there. It

is in the seeking, questioning, and dreaming in our inner knowledge that we will find the Divine and find what is holy. This is how we will discover a way. a truth, and a light. A proven way to continue this journey is through spiritual direction. If interested in exploring this process please call Kevin Martin, O.F.S, M.S. at: 610-310- 7077 or Peg Choinski at 610-850-1869 or email Peg at [email protected]. All inquiries are confidential.

BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL: Many thanks to those who have made a pledge to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Making a six-

month pledge to the Appeal allows you to maximize the amount that you may give by making monthly payments. For example, a $120 gift to the Appeal may be setup with six $20 installments. Remember, every gift counts, no matter how small. Your gener-osity funds the annual budget for 6 important Diocesan ministries in our area. You can make your gift online at FaithHopeChari-tyGives.org.
