St. Catherine Labouré (Zoe) was born 1806 in Fain-Les-Moutiers France, 9th of 11 children. She entered the Sisters of Charity in 1830 and took the name Catherine. In November 1830 Mary appeared to her and asked for a medal to be made (Miraculous Medal). Mary had rays coming from gems on her fingers. Those without rays symbolized graces we forget to ask for. For the next 46 years Catherine led a hidden life, and cared for old men. She died on 12/31, 1876. She was canonized in 1947. Her body is incorrupt to this day.

2019 Annual Jubilarian Mass

The annual Jubilarian Mass honor-ing couples married 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 51+ years will be held Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception .

St. Catherine Labouré Sodality will hold their Lenten retreat from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2019. All parishioners and their guests are invited to attend. Admission is $20.00 per person. (This includes Break-fast and Lunch). We begin by attending Mass, followed by the Rosary after which we will proceed to the Claridge Room for Breakfast. Please make a special effort and also encourage friends to attend this Lenten event. Sign-up will be the weekends of March 30th and 31st and again on April 6th and 7th after all the Mass-es. Prayer Rally downtown Frederick on Market and Church Street’s to defund Planned Parenthood on Saturday April 13th from 10 AM-noon. Join your fellow pro-lifers to pray for an end to abortion. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider, performing 36% of all abortions in our na-tion—over 330,000 each year. This rally will be one of more than 100 taking place across the country during the Nationwide Pro-Life day. This is not a protest, but a prayer rally. VOTIVE CANDLES Votive candles are lit in prayer either in thanks giv-ing or supplication for a special intention. Votive candles are never snuffed out but allowed to burn completely, at which time they will be traded out for new candles. Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our continuing catech-esis on the “Our Father”, we now turn to the second part of the prayer, where we present our needs to God. The first such petition, that God “give us this day our daily bread”, stems from the fact, often for-gotten, that we are not sufficient unto ourselves. We need to be nourished every day. Yet Jesus teaches us to make this invocation united with the many men and women for whom this prayer is also a plea, forged amid a daily struggle for the bare necessities of life. Seen in this light, Jesus’ words appear with even greater force, reminding us that Christian prayer is not an exercise for ascetics, but emerges from the needs of real people. The bread we are to seek, then, is not my but our bread. Jesus wants us to pray, not for our-selves but for our brothers and sisters. In this way the “Our Fa-ther” becomes a prayer of empathy and solidarity. We see such a desire to assist others in the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand, where Jesus also anticipates the ultimate offering of himself in the bread of the Eucharist, which alone is capable of fully satisfying our hunger for God himself.

I greet the English-speaking pilgrims and visitors taking part in today’s Audience, especially those from England, Ireland, Denmark, Japan and the Unit-ed States of America. May the Lenten journey bring us to Easter with hearts purified and renewed by the grace of the Holy Spirit. Upon you, and your fami-lies, I invoke joy and peace in Christ our Redeemer!

AAAA Healing Retreat for Survivors of Abuse-As the Church continues to minister to all survi-

vors of abuse, the Archdiocese of Washington is sponsoring retreats for survivors. The Archdiocese will offer a men’s retreat on April 5-7, 2019 and a women’s retreat on April 12-14, 2019. These re-treats are an occasion for survivors to reflect on God’s plan in their lives and for healing through prayer and the sacraments. Las velas votivas se encienden en oración, ya sea dando gracias o suplicando por una intención espe-cial. Las velas votivas nunca se apagan, sino que se las deja quemar por completo, momento en el cual se las cambiará por nuevas velas. La donación sug-erida por cada vela completamente quemada (aproximadamente 5 días) es $ 5.00. ¡Gracias de antemano por su generosidad y amor por el Señor Jesús! Queridos hermanos y hermanas: En la catequesis de hoy pasamos a considerar la segunda parte del Padrenuestro, en la que presentamos a Dios nuestras necesidades. Y la primera es el pan, que significa lo necesario para la vida: alimento, agua, casa, medicinas, trabajo. Es una súplica que surge de la misma existencia humana, con sus problemas concretos, cotidianos, que pone en evidencia lo que a veces olvidamos: que no so-mos autosuficientes, sino que dependemos de la bondad de Dios. Los Evangelios nos muestran que para mucha gente el encuentro con Jesús se da, precisamente, a través de una súplica, pidiendo una necesidad: desde la más ele-mental, la del pan, hasta otras no menos importantes, co-mo la liberación y la salvación. En la invocación: «Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día», Jesús nos enseña a pedir al Padre el pan cotidiano, unidos a tantos hombres y muje-res, para quienes esta oración es un grito doloroso que acompaña el ansia de cada día, porque se carece de lo necesario para vivir. Por eso Jesús nos invita a suplicar “nuestro” pan, sin egoísmos, en fraternidad. Porque si no lo rezamos de esta manera, el Padrenuestro deja de ser una oración cristiana. Si decimos que Dios es nuestro Pa-dre, estamos llamados a presentarnos ante Él como her-manos, unidos en solidaridad y dispuestos a compartir el pan con los demás; en definitiva, a sentir en “mi hambre” también el hambre de muchos que hoy en día carecen de lo necesario. Saludo cordialmente a los peregrinos de lengua española venidos de España y Latinoamérica. Pidamos al Señor que no nos haga faltar nuestro pan cotidiano, y nos ayude a comprender que este no es una propiedad privada sino, ayudados por su gracia, es providencia para compartir y oportunidad para salir al encuentro de los demás, espe-cialmente de los pobres y necesitados. Que Dios los ben-diga. Muchas gracias.

(no. 560) Este año celebramos el Domingo de Ramos, también conocido como Domingo de la Pasión, la próxima semana, el 14 de abril.

COMO ACTUAMOS EN LA IGLESIA

La Iglesia es un lugar sagrado, reservado para el culto a Dios. El Santísimo Sacramento está en el tabernáculo y Su Presencia Real requiere de nosotros la mayor reverencia. Es por eso que, no es que la casa de Dios sea un lugar sombrío y severo pero tampoco es lu-gar para diversión ni para andar a las anchas. Es mas bien un lugar sagrado, diferente a todos los demás. No es necesaria la rigidez pero no se debe andar como en el parque o en un centro comercial. Toda nuestra actitud debe reflejar nuestra fe en la Presencia de Cristo.

Tenemos la obligación moral de reflexionar sobre esto. Los sacer-dotes y los encargados de formación deben igualmente enseñar el

REFLEXION PARA EL PROXIMO DOMINGO

Meditación del Papa Francisco Palabra y pan en la mesa se vuelven una cosa, como en la últi-ma cena cuando todas las palabras de Jesús, todos las señales que había hecho se condensaron en el gesto de partir el pan y de ofrecer un cáliz, anticipación del sacrificio de la cruz, y en esas palabras: 'Tomad y bebed este es mi cuerpo, tomad y bebed esta es mi sangre'. El gesto de Jesús realizado en la última cena es el agradeci-miento extremo al Padre por su amor y misericordia. Agradeci-miento en griego se dice eucaristía, y por eso el sacramento se llama eucaristía. Es el supremo agradecimiento al padre que nos amó tanto al punto de darnos a su Hijo por amor. Por esto el término eucaristía resume este gesto de Dios y del hombre juntos. Gesto de Jesucristo verdadero Dios y verdadero hom-bre. Por lo tanto la celebración eucarística es algo más que un sim-ple banquete, es el memorial de la pascua de Jesús, el misterio central de la salvación. Memorial no significa solamente un simple recuerdo, pero quiere decir que cada vez que celebra-mos este sacramento participamos al misterio de la pasión, muerte y resurrección de Cristo. La eucaristía constituye el auge de la acción de salvación de Dios.» (S.S. Francisco, cate-quesis, 5 de febrero de 2014). Reflexión Cristo estaba ansioso de celebrar la Pascua con sus apóstoles. Sabe lo que esta Pascua significa, pero no la teme, sino la desea, no huye, sino que la prepara cuidadosamente. Quiere compartir la mesa con sus apóstoles, despedirse, es su adiós en el tiempo. A nosotros también nos espera Cristo para compartir la mesa con nosotros. Y si al hacerlo nuestros corazones se encuentran abiertos y deseosos de conocer más y mejor al Señor, el Es-píritu Santo trabajará en cada uno de nosotros, y así podremos vivir, cada día más,como cristianos auténticos, esforzándose por adquirir las virtudes necesarias para ello. Jesucristo es Sumo y Eterno Sacerdote que instituye el sacerdo-cio y la Eucaristía. En este jueves hagamos una reflexión de agradecimiento. Al despedirse Él, también promete su presen-cia viva, poniendo en manos de los Doce al Espíritu Santo que hará realidad el misterio de la Eucaristía. Demos gracias al Se-ñor por cada sacerdote que hace posible, por medio del Es-píritu, la presencia viva de Cristo. Oremos por las vocaciones, que no falten hombres que con sus manos consagradas hagan presente a Cristo para poder recibir la vida de Dios en la Eucaristía.

La misa annual para celebrar a las parejas que están conmemorando 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 o mas años de matrimonio será el domingo 16 de junio del 2019 a las 2:00 pm, en la Basílica de la Inmaculada Concepción en Washington. Para
