PALM SUNDAY OF THE
PASSION OF THE LORD
APRIL 9, 2017
Isaiah 50:4-7
Philippians 2:6-11
Matthew 26:14-27:66
FOCUS: Embracing the cross of Jesus
leads to everlasting life.
The cross of shame in Jesus’ time has
become for us the sign of victory over
sin and death. Through his perfect
sacrifice of love on the cross, Jesus won
forgiveness for our sins and defeated the
power of sin and evil. By so doing,
Jesus transformed the cross from an
instrument of death into the tree of life
and source of our salvation.

SPOTLIGHT ON WEEK 4 JUNE 26-30 Week 4 at Camp Crusader will NOT be a dry one! To
beat the heat of the summer, our campers will be
playing in the water ALLLLLLL week long. From our
Camp Crusader, giant slip and slide to a ton of wacky
water games, we can guarantee this week will be a
splash. If that wasn’t enough wet fun, Camp Crusader
will be taking one of our favorite summer trips to
Legoland! Don’t

SCIENCE NEWS To celebrate Earth Day, Ms. Manter’s 6th grade students designed and built vehicles out of recycled materials. Recycled trophies
were awarded to the student vehicles traveling the furthest distance off a ramp.
2ND GRADE NEWS!
2nd Grade went on a field trip to
Cracker Country where they stepped
back in time to the late 1890’s. The
children were able to participate in
household and farm chores. They
made butter, candles, and a jump
rope. They also did laundry and
worked in the garden. Recess was a
favorite as they were able to play with
toys that the children played with
during that time period. They even
liked the one room school house. It
was a very enjoyable day!

STEP UP FOR STUDENTS Applications are open for both new and renewal families for the 2017-18 school year. They anticipate funding 105,000 scholarships for next school year and have already awarded more than 70,000 scholarships, so it is important that interested families apply ASAP. The deadline to apply for FTC scholarships is May 1. This means entire applications must be completed, including the submission of all documentation. The deadline is early this year as they're doing everything they can to process and award all scholarships prior to school beginning in August. Currently, the turnaround time for new applications is about three weeks.
While they still give priority to the lowest income bracket, Step UP has begun awarding students of higher income families who qualify for the 88% scholarship. They have several hundred lined up to be awarded this week, so please ensure that any of your higher income families (>185% of poverty level) have their applications complete and all of their documents submitted.
