On May 1st Pope Francis reconsecrated the United States under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As is the custom during May all the faithful are encouraged to pray the rosary. The Holy Father has composed the following prayer to conclude the Rosary during the Month of May.
O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the foot of the cross, were united with Jesus’ suffering, and persevered in your faith.
“Protectress of the Roman people”, you know our needs, and we know that you will provide, so that, as at Cana in Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us. For he took upon himself our suffering, and burdened himself with our sorrows to bring us, through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.

Stewardship Moment May 31, 2020 - Pentecost Sunday
“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” 1 CORINTHIANS 12:7
To receive the gift of the Holy Spirit you must open your heart and invite Him in! Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts, words and actions every day! Be grateful for all the gifts God has given you! Regardless of our individual circumstances, God has given all of us many blessings. What we do with those gifts is our gift back to God! By generously sharing everything we have and everything we are, we become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered” and our lives truly reflect God’s light, love and mercy.

Fr. Kevin - Pentecost – Cycle A (2011) Acts 2:1-11; Romans 8:8-17; John 20:19-23
When Luke named the countries which we just heard in the account from the Acts of the Apostles it was kind of like reading a
travelogue of the ancient world. The countries named surrounded the Mediterranean Sea. These were many of the very countries to which the apostles and Paul traveled to bring the message of Jesus Christ. Devout Jews of all different races and tongues were gathered together that day in Jerusalem.
Why were they there? First of all, they were all Jews, either by birth, or by conversion to Judaism. There were three great Jewish festivals to which every male Jew within twenty miles of Jerusalem were obligated to attend – the Passover, Pentecost, and the Feast of Tabernacles. Jesus and the disciples were in Jerusalem for the Passover when he went through his passion, death and resurrection. Fifty days later the disciples found themselves once again in Jerusalem for Pentecost.
This feast was also called the Feast of Weeks because it fell on the fiftieth day, a week of weeks, after the Passover. The Feast had two main focuses. The first focus was historical: It commemorated the giving of the Law to Moses on Mt. Sinai. The second focus was agricultural: Crops ripened in the spring in ancient Palestine. On this feast the first portion of the barley crop was offered to God as a sign of gratitude for the harvest.
As devout Jews, the disciples would have found themselves in Jerusalem to celebrate this great feast. This time, though, would have been different because of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, who came to fulfill the law given to Moses on Mt. Sinai. Jesus’ teachings on gratitude and sacrifice would have given added meaning to the agricultural offerings they gave to God as a sign of their gratitude. With all they had experienced in the months prior to this it is no wonder that that they would come together and pray together.
The fact that they were gathered together at the time the Holy Spirit was given to them speaks to us of the importance of unity. The Holy Spirit is alive and present in our lives, but most fully and completely when the Church is gathered in prayer. The Holy Spirit is present when the bishops of the Church gather together for ecumenical councils. The Holy Spirit is present each time we gather together for our celebration of the Eucharist where ordinary bread and wine are transformed into the extraordinary body and blood, soul and divinity of our risen Lord.
In order that the Holy Spirit may have its greatest effect in our lives we need to stay united with one another. The Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith, is the primary sign of our Catholic unity, and it is the source of grace we need to remain united as a Church. All differences of opinion aside, when we gather at the altar of the Eucharist, God unites us as one body in Christ. This is part of the reason that it has been so difficult to be away from mass for the past two months. Not only have we missed the opportunity to worship God, we have truly missed each other.

Prayer For the Care of the Earth
God our Father and Creator, we give you thanks for the wonder of creation which inspires us, the fruit of the Earth which feeds us,
and the joy of life which gives us hope. Heal the places where your creation has been marred, and restore all creatures to the splendor of your glory, that all may delight once again in your goodness.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
We encourage our parishioners to patronize our bulletin sponsors. It is through their generosity that our weekly bulletin comes to you at no publishing cost.

Continued from page 4
Some would say that they don’t have to go to Church to be a good Christian. Sadly, they are disillusioning themselves. Christ’s prayer at the Last Supper was that we would all be one, as He and the Father are one. Therefore to be a good Christian we need one another. In our worship there is no place for the American ethic of “rugged individualism.” In our worship there can be no divisions between the haves and the have-nots. In our worship we must see each and every individual as a brother and sister in Christ.
In the gospel we heard John’s account of Pentecost. In this experience Jesus breathed the Spirit into the disciples when he appeared to them on Easter Sunday evening. Just as the Spirit hovered over all creation, and just as God formed the man out of clay and breathed life into him, Jesus breathed the Spirit into the hearts and minds of the first disciples. On the day of our Baptism the Holy Spirit was breathed into our lives, making us children of God. On the day of our Confirmation, that same Spirit was enkindled in our hearts through the outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
It is important to note that the disciples were gathered together in prayer when Jesus breathed the life of the Spirit into the disciples. This is another reason for us to gather together and worship God. In our act of worship, the Spirit of God is enkindled with the grace of God through our receiving the Holy Eucharist. In modern terms, it is here that we are supposed to “get fired up” for Jesus. The Spirit we received is strengthened that we might know and do God’s will in our daily lives. Separating ourselves from the praying community deprives us of the very sustenance we need to live authentic Christian lives.
And so we gather together today, as one body united in faith, to worship God. Through the scriptures we are reminded of everything that God has done for His people throughout the centuries. In a little while we will give an offering of ourselves -- our money, our bread and wine -- as a sign of our gratitude to God for all that the Lord has done for us. The Lord then gives Himself back to us, through His Body and Blood, to nourish and sustain us, that we might be one, as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one.
