Mission Statement We, the faith community of St. Colette, in proclaiming the truth of the Gospel are committed to follow Jesus Christ by being ”the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”. By our Baptism we are called to serve people of all cul-tures, migrants, and those who have no voice of their own; our born and unborn children; victims of violence, and the impoverished. Empowered by the Holy Spirit and nurtured by the Eucharist, we are led to promote human dignity and justice for all people. We believe that this is the way the Lord is calling us to be a sign of His kingdom in this time and place.

From the Pastor “Work of faith and labor of love” 1 Thes. 1:3 It was Monday morning last week, and I was walking from my office to celebrate the 8:00 morning mass here at St. Colette. I was doting be-tween tiny water puddles and the droppings of fairly common visitors on our campus – the geese! Didn't want to take the umbrella because it was fairly light, so perfect to enjoy God's wonder of creation in between the buildings. I get to the Sac-risty and Marge and Donnie greeted me with awe filled, smiley reflections on the wonderful event of the day before: the Parish Picnic! I joined the praise – good weather, many people, guests, chil-dren, music, mass, food and – ice cream! It was wonderful – perfect day. Then, we went into that morning mass. As I sat in the presiding chair listening to the first reading where Paul was commending the Thessa-lonians on their journey of faith, the above words in this article struck my heart with fresh memories of the parish picnic and the conversation about it in the sacristy. It was surely a successful event and God had a hand in it – good weather and many more responses to the invitation. Above all to be honest, it was due to a truly good work and experi-ence given to us - the team work, the committees, the phone calls, driving from one office to the oth-er, shopping, announcements, sign ups, volunteer-ing, choirs' rehearsals, your individual and family donations of time and treasures – mention it! It was for sure the “work of faith and labor of love”. I am inspired by the spirit and love of our church and community here at St. Colette. I am happy that I am here and the wonderful committed souls who make our parish special for what it is. I am also grateful for the priests and the deacons serv-ing our parish and for their pastoral commitment. I am inspired by all that we are engaged in for God's family and beyond our borders. It is the work of faith and labor of love. Thank you all!

St. Colette – Pray for Us.

Peace,

Fr. Mahonge

Paz,

P. Mahonge

Ministry

Dear Parish Family, Every year, the deacons of the Archdiocese of Chicago come together to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis. We do this with a dinner and a fundraising event. This our sole fundraiser of the year and it will take place on October 6. Money raised at the St. Francis Dinner support the following activities: several charities that serve the poorest and most marginalized (orphans, the mentally ill, the homeless, and the recovering), continuing theological and ministerial education for deacons and wives, a mutual aid for deacons in need, and operating funds for the Diaconate Council. This year I am asking if you’d be interested in purchasing a raffle ticket, or booklet. The tickets are $5 each, or six for $25. The first prize is $1,000. There is also one $500 winner, two $100 winners, and six $50 winners. If you’d be interested in taking a chance (winner need not be present!) and purchasing a ticket (or book), please let me know. I have raffle tickets and will either get them to you-or you can mail me a check, and I will complete the raffle ticket information for you. We are a nonprofit organization and all donations qualify as a charitable donation. Thank you for your support of the deacons of the Archdiocese of Chicago. We, Raul and Argelia, truly are blessed to be part of St. Colette. Please call me at (847) 401- 7680 if you are interested.

Thank you again! God bless you all! Deacon Raul Trejo
