*We express our sincere sympathy to Mrs Weber whose mother passed away in July.

*We also express our deepest sympathy to Rethabile 2C and Lethabo 6G Moeketsi whose father passed away in July.

We pray that God will comfort and strengthen these families during their sorrows. Please keep them in your prayers.

Achievements

Nicole Beling entered the Interdojo Championships and achieved a gold medal for Kata and silver for ku-mite .... well done

Well done to Camryn Mey (Gr4D) qualified to partici-pate in Nationals to be held at Kyalami in October 2018. Camryn qualified in both Dres-sage and Working Riding.

Taryn Barrett (Gr 3W) com-pleted her A.I.D.T. Red Star Tap Dancing Examination in July 2018, and Passed with Distinction achieving 96%.

Ruby Banjac 2C obtained her Eastern Gauteng Colours for Acro Gymnastics last week, and will be representing East-ern Gauteng at the Gauteng Championships 14-15 Septem-ber 2018.

On Monday 10 September the u13 hockey girls played a friendly hockey match against Farrarmere primary. Final Score was 4 - 2 to St Dominic’s. Well played girls. The match was a warm up game for the tour to lady of Fatima in KZN. The girls have come a long way I am very proud of them.

Coach Jen

Our u12 Hockey team has qual-ified for Eastern Gauteng play-offs. This will take place on Saturday 15 September at Red-dam House Astro in Bedfordview. Thank you to Coach Seth for going with our girls and getting them this far.Well done girls, we wish you all the best of luck. Play your heart out and enjoy the hockey.

Exciting NewsAs we know, we had Mandela Day on the 18th of July which was about 2 months ago. Mandela loved and valued children with all his heart and we, as the Media Committee celebrated it by asking our grade 6 girls to write short stories for us. We received many lovely stories. Below is one example.

Title: How the Hippo Lost Its Hair Written and Illustrated by: Tamika Ashton

This short story is about a hippo named Bella who boasts about her lovely hair and al-ways belittles others because of how flawless she is, little does she know that the hare whose name was Tatum could hear her. Tatum decided to teach her a little lesson and she

got some dry grass and made a bed for Bella out of it and Bella slept in it. She later lit Bella’s bed and she was on fire. She ran to the river but by the time she had arrived at the river, her hair had already been burnt off. From that day on, she only came out of the river at night to eat and she spent the day in the river. I would say that the moral of the story is that we shouldn’t boast about anything because they can get taken away as quickly as you got them.

Bible Reading: Proverbs 27:1-2

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

We’d like to applaud Tamika on the lovely story that she has written and may we also receive more lovely stories from our girls.

Dear Caroline, Staff and Pupils of St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls

All of us at Hospice East Rand are extremely grateful once again for your second generous donation of groceries, cleaning materials and toiletries that you collected for us this term.

Most of the items will be used at our Daycare Clinic in Vosloorus. We feed the adults on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and have a programme for the children every school holiday, where a meal is included as well.

We are so impressed by the example that you are setting to your pupils, to be aware of the plight of the needy and less fortunate in our community.
