We strive to ensure that our students are intellectually
competent, morally upright, and sensitive to the needs of
fellow human beings. As a college in a rural area, catering to
economically and socially disadvantaged students, it is our
prime duty to equip our students for a better future by
shaping their personality, strengthening their character,
instilling in them a sense of responsibility, and developing
their potentials to the full.
A centre of learning that mouldsrefined individuals,
quality leadersand
a society of committed human beings

ST DOMINIC'S COLLEGE
1. St Dominic's College was started in 1965 under the Catholicmanagement of St Dominicís Forane Church, Kanjirapally, tocater to the higher educational needs of the parish, in particular, and of the eastern parts of the Archdiocese of Changanacherry,in general. This was the fulfilment of a long-felt need of thisregion which was one of the educationally backward areas inKerala. When the new Diocese of Kanjirapally was formed in1977, St Dominic's College assumed the unique distinction ofbeing the only institution offering higher education in the wholediocese.
2. The College also includes in its purview the academicaspirations of the non-Catholic communities of the area and iscommitted to imparting education to all who seek higherlearning at these doors, irrespective of caste , community andcreed. In fact, this centre of learning keeps in its interests, theintellectual ,cultural and moral advancement of the whole area.
3. True to the adage "Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom,''the College tries to instil in the hearts of its students trust inGod and faith in ethical and spiritual values . It aims at upholdingthe highest Christian ideals along with academic excellence.
4. The College aims at making its students live its motto-'Absorband Radiate' - absorb the light of knowledge and values, andtransmit what they imbibe, thereby expanding the frontiers oftruth and wisdom.

St. Dominic de Guzman, the Patron Saint of this College, is amodel for teachers and students to emulate, for his was a life dedicatedto prayer, study and service. Born in an aristocratic family at Caleruega,Spain, around 1170-72, Dominic was brought up in a pious atmosphere.
As a young man at the University of Palencia he lived a life ofintense prayer and study and had a great love for the poor. Even as hesought to alleviate their pain and hunger, he recognized a deeper hungerin men and women - the hunger for God and Truth - which he wanted tosatisfy. So he became a priest and then a Canon Regular in the CathedralChapter of Osma.
It was a very turbulent period in church history, the Albigensianheresy being widespread in Southern France. The existing ecclesiasticalstructures were inadequate to contend with it. Dominic, therefore, took itas a challenge and decided to dedicate his life to the ministry of preaching. He organized his fellow preachers in the new religious order at Toulousein 1215 and it was formally approved by Pope Honorius III on December22, 1216. His own love of prayer and study, his zeal for the salvation ofsouls, and his belief in apostolic poverty became the foundation stonesof his Order which was dispersed throughout Europe in 1217.
The saying about St. Dominic that ëhe either spoke with God orabout Godí exemplifies the holiness of his life. He died at Bologna onAugust 6, 1221.
Our times are not all that different in their uncertainty and chaosfrom Dominicís time. We recognise in our day a similar kind of hunger forspirituality and meaning especially among the youth. The restless youthof today can draw inspiration from the example of St. Dominic who senthis friars out two by two to the centres of thought - the universities whichwere being founded throughout Europe - so that they could both find truthamong the prevalent currents of thought and transform themselves as thebearers of truth.
August 8 is observed in the college as St. Dominic's Day.
